고내상 에멀션 중합에 의해 제조된 열린 기공을 갖는 고장도 고분자/점토 나노복합 발포체 (Reinforced Polymer/Clay Nanocomposite Foams with Open Cell Prepared via High Internal Phase Emulsion Polymerization)

  • 무기 점도증진제를 도입한 고내상 에멀션 중합법에 의해 고강도의 열린 기공을 갖는 미세구조 발포체를 제조하였다. 오일상 점도증진제로 유기화 점토를 사용하였고 수용상 점도증진제로는 무처리된 친수성 점토인 천연 몬모릴로나이트를 사용하였다. 고내상 에멀션의 유변물성은 오일상 점도증진제의 농도와 교반속도가 증가할수록 증가하였는데 이는 연속상 점도와 분산상 점도간의 경쟁과 전단력의 증가를 반영하여 액적의 크기를 감소시켰기 때문이었다. 점도증진제 농도에 따른 액적의 크기 변화는 캐필러리 수와 점도비 사이의 무차원 해석으로 설명할 수 있었다. 고내상 에멀션을 중합하여 제조한 발포체를 대상으로 파괴 강도 및 압축 탄성률로 표현되는 압축 물성을 측정하여 비교하였다. 본 연구에서 제조한 미세기공 발포체 중에서 반응성 작용기를 지닌 유기화 점토를 도입한 발포체의 경우 우수한 압축 물성을 보여 주었다. 이는 유기화 점토가 폴리스티렌 매트릭스 내에 박리된 형태로 존재하여 나노복합 발포체를 이루기 때문으로 사료된다.

택코트용 폴리머 개질 유화아스팔트 개발 및 성능 평가 (Development and Evaluation of Polymer-Modified Asphalt Emulsions Used for Tack Coats)

  • PURPOSES: The objectives of this study were to develop a new polymer-modified emulsion for application to tack coats and to evaluate its properties by comparing it with other types of asphalt emulsions, with the goal of providing an enhanced tack coat material for use in construction. METHODS: Modified asphalt binders were developed from using SBS and SBR latex in the laboratory, and their fundamental properties, such as their penetration index and PG grade, were evaluated. Based on the properties, a new tack coat material was developed. To evaluate the newly developed asphalt emulsion, the bonding strength between the two layers of HMA was measured by applying a uniaxial tensile test and shear test. For the tests, a total of four different conditions were applied to the specimens, including the developed asphalt emulsion, latex modified asphalt emulsion, conventional asphalt emulsion, and non-tack coating. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Overall, the developed asphalt emulsion exhibits the best bonding strength behavior among all of the three types. Also, the two types of polymer-modified emulsions were found to be better for application for use as a tack coat than a conventional emulsion. Especially, at a high temperature ($50^{\circ}C$), the conventional asphalt emulsion no longer acts as a tack coating material. Therefore, the polymer-modified emulsion should be considered for application to tack coat construction during the summer.

  • Cetyl alcohol과 polyoxyethylene(20) sorbitan monooleate를 혼합한 유화제와 양친매성 resin을 용매에 용해시킨 분산상에 분산매인 물을 첨가하여 O/W 에멀젼을 제조하여 HLB(Hydrophilic Lipophilic Balance) 값과 온도변화에 따른 상변화를 관찰하였다. 양친매성 resin을 함유한 에멀젼은 이를 함유하지 않는 에멀젼보다 온도변화에 따른 상안정성이 좋다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 양친매성 resin이 에멀젼 안정성에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위해 양친매성 resin에 함유되어 있는 작용기중 하나의 작용기를 갖는 resin을 model compound로 하여 HLB값과 온도변화에 따른 에멀전 상거동을 관찰한 결과, Poly(acrylic acid)

O/W 에멀젼 입자의 크기에 미치는 Direct 유화법과 Invert유화법의 효과 (Effect of Direct Emulsification Method and Invert Emulsification Method On Droplet Size of O/W Emulsion)

  • 유화제로 polyoxyethylene(20)sorbitan monostearate, sorbitan sesquioleate을 혼합 사용하고, 분산상으로 liquid paraffin, 연속상으로 deionized water를 원료로 사용하여 Direct유화법을 이용한 전상법과 Invert유화법을 3가지 단계의 제조방법으로 나누어서 O/W에멀젼을 제조하였고, 각 단계 전상유화법에서 첨가되는 물의 양에 따른 최종 O/W에멀젼의 입자크기변화를 관찰하였다. Direct유화법을 이용한 2단계 전상유화법을 사용하여 제조한 결과, 미세하고 균일한 입자를 갖는 O/W에멀젼은 W/O에서 (W/O)W 이중에멀젼으로의 전환 단계를 거쳐야만 생성됨을 알 수 있었다. Invert유화법을 사용한 3단계전상유화법은 W/O 에서 일종의 Pseudomicroemulsion gel상을 거쳐 미세하고 균일한 O/W유화 입자가 얻어졌다. 3단계 전상법이 2단계 전상법보다 더 미세하고 균일한 입자를 생성하였다. 실험에서 사용한 모든 유화법에서 혼합유화제의 HLB가 10.0 - 10.8 영역에서 가장 미세한 에멀젼입자가 형성되었다. 이 HLB영역에서 혼합유화제가 용해되어있는 오일상에 첨가되어 가용화되는 물의 양이 최대로 많았으며, 최대 가용화 물양을 갖는 유화제의 조성에서 가장 미세하고 균일한 입자가 얻어졌다.

목질 열분해유를 사용하는 디젤엔진의 성능 및 배기특성에 관한 연구 (Performance and Emission Characteristics of a Diesel Engine Operated with Wood Pyrolysis Oil)

  • The vast stores of biomass available in the worldwide have the potential to displace significant amounts of fuels that are currently derived from petroleum sources. Fast pyrolysis of biomass is one of possible paths by which we can convert biomass to higher value products. The wood pyrolysis oil (WPO), also known as the bio crude oil (BCO), have been regarded as an alternative fuel for petroleum fuels to be used in diesel engine. However, the use of BCO in a diesel engine requires modifications due to low energy density, high water contents, low acidity, and high viscosity of the BCO. One of the easiest way to adopt BCO to diesel engine without modifications is emulsification of BCO with diesel and bio diesel. In this study, a diesel engine operated with diesel, bio diesel (BD), BCO/diesel, BCO/bio diesel emulsions was experimentally investigated. Performance and gaseous & particle emission characteristics of a diesel engine fuelled by BCO emulsions were examined. Results showed that stable engine operation was possible with emulsions and engine output power was comparable to diesel and bio diesel operation. However, in case of BCO/diesel emulsion operation, THC & CO emissions were increased due to the increased ignition delay and poor spray atomization and NOx & Soot were decreased due to the water and oxygen in the fuel. Long term validation of adopting BCO in diesel engine is still needed because the oil is acid, with consequent problems of corrosion and clogging especially in the injection system.

Effects of Dietary Fiber Extracted from Citrus (Citrus unshiu S. Marcoy) Peel on Physicochemical Properties of a Chicken Emulsion in Model Systems

  • Citrus (Citrus unshiu S. Marcoy) industry by-products were used as a source of dietary fiber, and the effects of dietary fiber extracted from citrus peel on the proximate composition, pH, color, protein solubility, cooking loss, emulsion stability, and apparent viscosity of a chicken emulsion in model systems were examined. Chicken emulsions were prepared by adding citrus peel fiber at four different concentrations (1, 2, 3, and 4%). The apparent viscosity, redness, and yellowness of the chicken emulsion with citrus peel fiber were higher than those of the control (p<0.05). The lightness values of the chicken emulsions were lower in treatments containing citrus peel fiber (p<0.05). Furthermore, moisture content, cooking loss, and emulsion stability of the chicken emulsion with 1-2% citrus peel fiber were higher than those of other treatments (p<0.05). Fat content was lower in the treatments with added citrus peel fiber than that in the control (p<0.05). Chicken emulsions with added citrus peel fiber had improved quality characteristics, and the best results were obtained for the chicken emulsion with 2% added citrus peel fiber.

탈지 유채박 중 표면활성정제물의 유화특성 및 산화 안정도에 관한 연구 (Emulsifying Properties and Oxidative Stability of Purified Surface-Active Substances from Defatted Rapeseed Cake Extract)

  • Surface-active substances in defatted rapeseed cake were obtained using a supercritical fluid extraction method. Then, it was purified by removing sinapine in the extract through a series of steps using a mixed solvent: diethyl ether and ethyl acetate (1:1, v/v). Emulsifying properties of purified surface-active substances were investigated, including fat globule size, zeta potentials and creaming stability and its antioxidant activity in emulsion systems were also studied by peroxide value and $^1H$-NMR spectrum. It was found that fat globules in emulsions with purified surface-active substances were much smaller than ones with the unpurified. In addition, as pH of the emulsion lowered and with increasing NaCl concentration in the emulsion, they were observed to increase, which led to worse creaming stability. These properties were reflected in changes of zeta potentials of emulsions. The oxidative stability was better in emulsions with purified surface-active substances than ones with Tween 20 or commercial lecithin, possibly resulted from the existence of sinapic acid in the extract. It was concluded that purified surface-active substances from defatted rapeseed cake could be simultaneously used as emulsifier and antioxidant agent in emulsion system.

유체 계면에서 콜로이드 흡착에 대한 전해질 농도의 영향 (The Effect of Electrolyte Concentration for Colloid Adsorption toward a Fluid-Fluid Interface)

  • 이 논문은 콜로이드 입자가 기름-물 사이의 계면으로 흡착될 때 필수적으로 존재하는 정전기적 반발력에 대한 실험적, 이론적 연구이다. 광집게(optical laser tweezers)와 피에조(piezo controller)를 사용하여, 개별 입자를 트랩(trap)한 후, 계면으로 강제 전이시킨다. 이때 수용액이 전해질을 포함한 경우에만, 입자가 계면으로 전이되며, 포함하지 않을 경우에는 흡착이 일어나지 않는다. 이러한 현상을 근본적으로 이해하기 위해, 광학 트랩핑 힘(optical trapping force)과 입자와 계면 사이에 존재하는 정전기적 분리압력(electrostatic disjoining pressure)를 정량적으로 계산하였다. 이를 바탕으로, 입자가 계면으로 흡착될 때, 그들 사이에는 필연적으로 문턱 에너지(threshold energy)가 존재함을 밝혀냈다. 콜로이드 입자가 에멀젼(emulsions)이나 거품(foams)등 두 개 이상의 섞이지 않는 유체계면을 안정화 시키는 "콜로이드 계면 활성제(colloid surfactants)" 역할을 한다는 사실을 고려했을 때, 본 연구는 이러한 입자의 흡착 현상을 근본적으로 이해하는데 있어서 중요한 지식을 제공한다.

X선 산란분석법을 이용한 액정에멀젼 구조분석 (Structure Analysis of Liquid Crystal Emulsions Using X-ray Scattering Analysis)

  • 본 연구에서는 $C_{12-20}$ 알킬글루코사이드, $C_{14-22}$ 알코올 및 베헤닐알코올로 구성된 액정에멀젼을 제조하고 다양한 분석장비를 이용하여 구조분석을 실시하였다. 먼저 제조한 액정에멀젼을 편광현미경과 cryo-SEM을 이용하여 각각 액정에멀젼의 특징인 maltese cross 무늬와 다층 구조를 확인하였다. 또한, DSC를 이용하여 액정상 형성을 확인하였고, small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) 분석을 통하여 약 $305{\AA}$의 층간 간격을 갖는 다층 라멜라 구조를 확인하였다. 한편, wide angle x-ray scattering (WAXS) 분석을 통해 제조된 액정에멀젼의 라멜라 구조를 이루고 있는 알킬 사슬 간 배열이 사방정계 구조로 되어 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 액정에멀젼 구조 연구를 통해 얻어진 다양한 물성 정보는 향후 산업적으로 많이 이용될 것으로 기대된다.

Energy-saving potential of cross-flow membrane emulsification by ceramic tube membrane with inserted cross-section reducers

  • In this work, oil-in-water emulsions (O/W) were prepared successfully by membrane emulsification with $0.5{\mu}m$ pore size membrane. Sunflower oil was emulsified in aqueous Tween80 solution with a simple crossflow apparatus equipped with ceramic tube membrane. In order to increase the shear-stress near the membrane wall, a helical-shaped reducer was installed within the lumen side of the tube membrane. This method allows the reduction of continuous phase flow and the increase of dispersed phase flux, for cost effective production. Results were compared with the conventional cross-flow membrane emulsification method. Monodisperse O/W emulsions were obtained using tubular membrane with droplet size in the range $3.3-4.6{\mu}m$ corresponded to the membrane pore diameter of $0.5{\mu}m$. The final aim of this study is to obtain O/W emulsions by simple membrane emulsification method without reducer and compare the results obtained by membrane equipped with helix shaped reducer. To indicate the results statistical methods, $3^p$ type full factorial experimental designs were evaluated, using software called STATISTICA. For prediction of the flux, droplet size and PDI a mathematical model was set up which can describe well the dependent variables in the studied range, namely the run of the flux and the mean droplet diameter and the effects of operating parameters. The results suggested that polynomial model is adequate for representation of selected responses.
