Characteristics of Biosurfactants produced by Bacillus sp. LSC11 (Bacillus sp. LSC11가 생산하는 biosurfactant의 특성)

  • Several bacterial strains producing biosurfactants were isolated from polluted marine and soil by oil. One of the strains named LSC11 showed strong production activity of biosurfactants. This strain was identified as a Bacillus sp. LSC11 based on the morphological, biochemical, and physiological characteristics. The biosurfactant, produced by the strain, emulsified crude oil, vegetable oil, and hydrocarbons. The surface tension of the culture broth of Bacillus sp. LSC11 decreased to 32 mN/m. The crude biosurfactant was obtained from the culture broth by acid precipitation, freeze drying, solvent extraction, and evaporation. The emulsifying activity of the biosurfactant showed better than the chemically synthesized surfactant (SDS, Span40, Span 85). The biosurfactants had strong properties as an emulsifying agent and as an emulsion-stabilizing agent.

  • These N-acyl amino acid surfactants is normally produced by reaction of acid anhydride with sodium ${\ell}-glutamate$ hydrolysates under Schotten-Baumann condition i.e., in alkaline aqueous medium. To avoid using fatty acid chlorides, acylations were also carried out with the fatty acids themselves or with their methyl esters, but unfortunately these methods cannot be used in practice, dodecenyl succinic anhydride, was to be studied for their suitability as acylating agents the production if acylated glutamine hydrolysates. The surface activities including surface tension forming power, forming stability and emulsifying power were measured. The experimental results revealed that the products have a good emulsifying power. Thus, there derivatives will be expected to be used an emulsifying agent for O/W type cosmetic emulsion.

  • Self-leveling mortar is walkable bottom mortar which can maintain the horizontality of self fluid and have the the quick-setting quality, the low-human-effort practicable material of high-quality bottom in construction. In accordance with more adhesive strength with bottom side and absorption control, Primer is used for purpose to prevent pin-hole occurrence by self leveling mortar application prior to construction. This study is composed measurement of absorption, adhesive strength. Used material is NP-40 as nonionic emulsifying agent, uses SA-210L as negative ion emulsifying agent, uses APS, SBS as ridical initiator. A result of test, in accordance with image of Primer, as low temperature and application frequency, indicates low absorption rate and adhesive strength, as solid powder and dryness time is increse, absorption rate and adhesive strength lowly shows figure.

  • Three kinds of N-fluoroacyl carboxy pyridinium chlorides were synthesized by the reaction of pyridine-carboxylic acid such as pyridine-2-carboxylic, pyridine-3-carboxylic and pyridine-4-carboxylic acid with long chain perfluoroacyl chloride. The surface chemical properties including surface tension, foaming power, foam stability, effectiveness of wettability and solubilizing effect were measured. These compounds showed good surface activities as emulsifying agent, solubilizing agent and fire-fighting agent.

  • The objective of this study was investigate the characteristic of biosurfactant produced from the isolated strain. The strain was isolated from soil samples and identified as Bacillus sp. TBM 911-5 by physiological characteristics and the partial nucleotide sequence analysis of 16S rDNA. We measured the surface tension every 6 hours for 80 hours. The surface tension of the culture filtrate of Bacillus sp. TBM 911-5 was decreased to 29 mN/m. Biosurfactant concentration was determined by diluting the culture filtrate until the critical micelle concentration (CMC). The biosurfactant emulsified hydrocarbons, vegetable oil and crude oil. Using soybean oil as substrate, the maximum emulsification activity and stability was obtained from the biosurfactant. The biosurfactant produced from Bacillus sp. TBM 911-5 had strong properties as an emulsifying agent and an emulsion-stabilizing agent.

  • The Surfactants composed of acylated aterocollagen which is produced by the acylation of the side chain amino radicals of aterocollagen with an aliphatic acid having 12 to 18 carbon atoms will be discussed in this study. This condensation is done at moderate reaction temperature (<$25^{\circ}C$) in aqueous alkaline solution. The products of this reaction were identified by UV/VIS spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy. For these compounds, surface active properties and physical properties including isoelectric point, Krafft point, surface tension, critical micelle concentration(cmc), foaming power, viscosity behaviour, water holding capacity, skin irritation and emulsifying power were measured respectively. The experimental results received that the products have a good emulsifying power, excellent water holding capacity while having low skin irritation. Thus, these derivatives will be expected to be used as an emulsifying agent for O/W type cosmetic emulsion.

  • There are no reliable data about the effect on the baking industry in Korea yet. The damage caused by the product's aging is so much in the confectionary and baking industries. Therefore, the aging of bread is an economical problem which determines its commercial lifespan. In order to solve out this aging problem, this article dealt with the factors which give rise to the effect of starch on the aging and its inhibitory methods. 1. Control of the moisture content : Because the aging of starch occurs at 30~60% of moisture most frequently, controlling the moisture content above or below the above percentage can help restrain the aging to a certain degree. 2. Addition of sugars : The sugars become hydrated through hydrogenation with the moisture in the food. Thus, the sugars suppress the phenomenon of crumbling inside the food acting as a kind of dehydrator. 3. Use of an emulsifying agent : The emulsifying agent increases the stability of starch colloid liquid and suppresses the precipitation of starch molecules and the formation of crystallized range to prevent aging. 4. Method by freezing : The aging of starch does hardly occur reaching -2$0^{\circ}C$~-3$0^{\circ}C$ below zero. 5. Maintenance of warm condition : The freshness of bread is maintained at the 80% of humidity at 5$0^{\circ}C$.

  • One of the real issues of the recent years is water contamination because of harmful synthetic dyes. Liquid Membranes (LM) resemble a promising alternative to the current separation processes, demonstrating various points of interest as far as effectiveness, selectivity, and operational expenses. The improvement of various Liquid Membranes designs has been a matter of examination by few researchers, particularly for the expulsion of dyes from aqueous solutions. The choice of organic surfactants plays an essential role in the efficiency of the dye removal. In LM design, the most significant step towards productivity is the decision of the surfactant type and its concentration. Liquid emulsion membrane (LEM) was used to remove safranin from aqueous solutions in which the emulsion was made with the help of D2EHPA as carrier, kerosene was used as a diluent and Span 80 (Sorbiton monooleate) was used as an emulsifying agent or surfactant. Various sorts of internal stages were utilized, to be specific sulphuric acid and sodium hydroxide. The impact of parameters influencing extraction efficiency such as pH of feed solution, concentrations of surfactant and emulsifying agent in membrane phase, volume ratio of internal phase to membrane phase, internal phase concentration, agitation speed and time of extraction were analyzed.

  • The various microbial tests were performed to determine bioremediation agent capacity for eight strains isolated from the oil contaminated regions. Two tests for isolated strains were conducted such as cell hydrophobicity and emulsifying activity. The biodegradation of SHM (saturated hydrocarbon mixture) and AHM (aromatic hydrocarbon mixture) with the strains also was carried out. The strains having higher cell hydrophobicity and emulsifying activity degraded petroleum oil effectively. The degradation capacity for SHM was represented more than 90% in YS-7 and WLH-1 of isolated strains, and KH3-2 were capable of degrading AHM. Especially, WLH-1 as yeast was shown more than two or three times in the degradation capacity of automobile engine lubricants and the biomonitoring results of contaminated soil for residual oil degrading test showed that the hydrocarbon biodegradation was increased in the second treatment by this strain.

  • A series of four sodium ${\alpha}-sulfo$ fatty acid allylester oligomers such as sodium ${\alpha}-sulfo$ lauric acid allylester oligomer, sodium ${\alpha}-sulfo$ myristic acid allyl ester oligomer, sodium ${\alpha}-sulfo$ palmitic acid allyl ester oligomer and sodum ${\alpha}-sulfo$ stearic acid allyl ester oligomer were examined for surface tension, defloculation effect and emulsifying power. Also critical micelle concentration (cmc) was evaluated. Consequently, these sodium allyl ${\alpha}-sulfo$ aliphatic carboxylate aligomers show o/w type emulsifying agent and dispersion effect in 1g/100ml soulution.
