  • This paper proposes a fast-processing and low-cost hardware multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel emulator. The channel emulator is an important component of hardware-based simulation systems. The novelty of this work is the use of sharing and pipelining functions to reduce hardware resource utilization while maintaining a high sample rate. In our proposed emulator, the samples are created sequentially and interpolated to ensure the sample rate is equal to the base band rate. The proposed 4 × 4 MIMO requires low-cost hardware resource so that it can be implemented on a single field-programmable gate array (FPGA) chip. An implementation on Xilinx Virtex-7 VX980T was found to occupy 10.47% of the available configurable slice registers and 12.58% of the FPGA's slice lookup tables. The maximum frequency of the proposed emulator is 758.064 MHz, so up to 560 different paths can be processed simultaneously to generate 560 × 758 million × 2 × 32 bit complex-valued fading samples per second.

  • Integral imaging is an auto-stereoscopic display method that can produce 3D image of a finite viewing window through an array of micro elemental lenses. Integral imaging requires the pickup part of each elemental images acquisition and display part of reconstruction of the images. The successful reconstructed image depends on various parameters such as distance between lens arrays and display device, focal length of lenses, and a number of the array. In this paper, we present reconstruction emulator for display of Integral imaging in order to adjust parameters for 3D contents reconstruction and to observe the result from different configuration. Especially, we provide the user interface for the emulator to control the distance easily. We have confirmed through various experiments that the emulator adjusted the distance and could check error in the process of creating elemental images.

  • An active radio frequency identification (RFID) system has the advantages of a long identification distance and a good identification rate, overcoming passive RFID drawbacks. Therefore, interest in the development of active RFID systems has been gradually increasing in areas of harbor logistics and national defense. However, some identification failures between active RFID systems developed under the same standards have been reported, presumably due to a lack of development of accurate evaluation methods and test equipment. We present a realization of the hardware and software of an emulator to evaluate the standard conformance of an active RFID system in a fully anechoic chamber. The performance levels of the designed emulator are analyzed using Matlab/Simulink simulations, and the applicability of the emulator is verified by evaluating the standard conformance of a real active RFID tag. Finally, we propose a new evaluation method by incorporating a self-running test mode environment into the RFID tags to reduce testing time and increase testing accuracy. The application of the suggested method to actual tags improves measurement uncertainty by 0.56 dB over that obtained using existing methods.

  • Magnetocardiography is a very weak biomagnetic field generated from the heart. Since the magnitude of the biomagnetic field is in the order of a few pico Tesla, it is measured with a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). SQUID is a transducer converting magnetic flux to voltage, however, its range of linear conversion is very restricted. In order to overcome the narrow dynamic range. a flux locked loop is used to feedback the output field with opposite polarity to the input field so that the total Held becomes zero. This prevents the operating point of the SQUID from moving too far away from the null point thereby escape from the linear region. In this paper, an emulator for the SQUID sensor and feedback coil is proposed. Magnetic courting between the original field and the generated field by the feedback coil is emulated by electronic circuits. By using the emulator, FLL circuits are analyzed and optimized without SQUID sensors. The emulator may be used as a test signal for multi-channel gain calibration and system maintenance.

  • In this paper, a scheme for estimating the parameters of solar cells and a NN-based emulator for predicting the maximum power point are presented. The diode model with series and shunt resistors is used to estimate parameters highly affecting its V-I characteristic curve and both a real-coded genetic algorithm and the model adjustment technique are employed. For implementing the emulator, a multi-layered neural network incorporating with the BP algorithm is used. A set of simulation works using both field data and generated data are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
