Purpose : This study was to provide the methods of developing the growth charts and the blood pressure nomogram among Korean children and adolescents. Methods : The growth charts were developed based on the data from the national growth surveys for children and adolescents in 1998 and 2005. The percentile charts were developed through two stages. At the first stage, the selected empirical charts were smoothed through several fitting procedures including parametric and non-parametric methods. At the second stage, a modified LMS (lambda, mu, sigma) statistical procedure was applied to the smoothed percentile charts. The LMS procedure allowed to estimate any percentile and to calculate standard deviation units and z-scores. The charts for weight-for-age, height-for-age, BMI-for-age, weight-for-height and head circumference-for-age were developed by sex. Age and normalized height controlled sex-specific nomograms of systolic and diastolic blood pressure were developed by a fixed effect model of general regression using the data from 2005 national growth survey. Results : The significant systemic differences between the percentiles of growth charts and the empirical data were not found. The final output of the study is available from Korean Center for Disease Control and Prevention homepage, http://www.cdc.go.kr/webcdc/. Blood Pressure nomogram was tabulated by height percentiles and age using the regression coefficients analyzed with regression model. Conclusion : 2007 growth charts and blood pressure nomogram were the first products based on the statistical modeling using the national survey data. The further study on the methodology including data collection, data cleaning and statistical modeling for representative growth charts would be needed.
Sample skewness has not received much attention from researchers to design a control chart. In this paper, control charts based on two skewness measures are studied to control a manufacturing process. One skewness measure is the third central moment about mean, the other is the third L-moment which is a linear combination of order statistics. Since the exact sampling distributions of two skewness measures are unknown, empirical sampling distributions are studied using simulation. The sampling distributions are used to design control charts for skewness and performance of two skewness measures is compared.
Company A, an embedded system manufacturer, has been managing multiple development projects. Executives need to understand the risk level of every project and prioritize resource distribution. Traditional project monitoring tools or excel sheets are too complex for calculating the risk factors across a functional organization. Two new charts, "Spear-head Chart" and "Float Chart" were designed to assist high level decision making processes. Two charts were used for weekly executive meetings in order to monitor project progress and rectify project direction. One page graphical monitoring tools in Company A are good enough for high management decision making. Authors explain the characteristics of two charts and propose its practical implementation in real working environment. Spear-head chart was also implemented as a system.
The current paper introduces a new approach for development of damage index to obtain the maximum damage in the reinforced concrete frames caused by as-recorded single and consecutive earthquakes. To do so, two sets of strong ground motions are selected based on maximum and approximately maximum peak ground acceleration (PGA) from "PEER" and "USGS" centers. Consecutive earthquakes in the first and second groups, not only occurred in similar directions and same stations, but also their real time gaps between successive shocks are less than 10 minutes and 10 days, respectively. In the following, a suite of six concrete moment resisting frames, including 3, 5, 7, 10, 12 and 15 stories, are designed in OpenSees software and analyzed for more than 850 times under two groups of as-recorded strong ground motion records with/without seismic sequences phenomena. The idealized multilayer artificial neural networks, with the least value of Mean Square Error (MSE) and maximum value of regression (R) between outputs and targets were then employed to generate the empirical charts and several correction equations for design utilization. To investigate the effectiveness of the proposed damage index, calibration of the new approach to existing real data (the result of Park-Ang damage index 1985), were conducted. The obtained results show good precision of the developed ANNs-based model in predicting the maximum damage of regular reinforced concrete frames.

A capillary tube, which is a common expansion device in small sized refrig-eration and air-conditioning systems, should be redesigned properly to establish an optimum operation cycle of a refrigerating system with alternative refrigerants. Based on experimental data for R-22, R-290, and R-407C, an empirical correlation is developed to predict mass flow rate through capillary tubes. Dimensionless parameters are derived from the Buckingham Pi theorem, considering the effects of operating conditions and capillary tube geometry on mass flow rate. Approximately $97\%$ of the present data are correlated within a relative deviation of $\pm\;10\%.$ The present correlation also predicts the data obtained from open literature within $\pm\;15\%.$ In addition, rating charts of refrigerant flow rate for R-12, R-22, R-134a, R-152a, R-407C, R-410A, R-290, and R-600a are developed.

The review presented herein covers most of previous works on tidal models of the East China Sea and the Yellow Sea performed over past two decades including some earlier efforts. General description of tides in the region is given based on both numerically derived tidal charts, current ellipses and intelligently drawn empirical tidal charts. Some aspects of bottom tidal dissipation, tidal mixing, tidal sedimentation and tidal circulation utilizing the numerical tidal models are presented, and further discussions on inherent problems and development of the models are also given.
Selecting business charts based on the nature of the data and the purpose of the visualization is useful in business analysis. However, current visualization tools lack the ability to help choose the right business chart for the context. Also, soliciting expert help about visualization methods for every analysis is inefficient. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose an accessible method to improve business chart productivity by creating rules for selecting business charts from online published documents. To this end, Korean, English, and Chinese unstructured data describing business charts were collected from the Internet, and the relationships between the contexts and the business charts were calculated using TF-IDF. We also used a Galois lattice to create rules for business chart selection. In order to evaluate the adequacy of the rules generated by the proposed method, experiments were conducted on experimental and control groups. The results confirmed that meaningful rules were extracted by the proposed method. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to recommend customizing business charts through open unstructured data analysis and to propose a method that enables efficient selection of business charts for office workers without expert assistance. This method should be useful for staff training by recommending business charts based on the document that he/she is working on.
Variability management is the foremost criterion that defines the extent to which complexities can be handled in a system. Predominantly, the requirements' engineering (RE) study overlooks, or speculates a consistent behavior of, the environment in which a system functions. In real-time systems it is vital to observe and adjust to an intrinsically changing context. Therefore, in this work we identify the requirements of the system in various contexts by recommending a framework using i* goal model, problem frames, use case maps and live sequence charts. The framework is illustrated using a case study of the smart grid RTP system. In the case study, elaboration of scenarios using use case maps and live sequence charts proved beneficial as they assisted in early analysis and validation of contexts. In addition, the elaboration of requirements for obstacle and conflict analysis assists the requirements engineer to increase the robustness of the system. The proposed framework is evaluated theoretically and by empirical study.
These days, consumers have increasingly preferred to digital real-time streamlining and downloading to listen to music because this is convenient and affordable for the consumers. Accordingly, sales of music in compact disk formats have steadily declined. In this regards, online digital music has become a new communication channel to listen musics, where digital files can be delivered over various online networks to people's computing devices. The majority of online digital music distributors has Music Recommender Systems for sales of digital music on their websites. Music Recommender Systems are parts of information filtering systems that provide the ratings or preferences that users give to music. Korean online digital music distributors have Music Recommender Systems. But those online music distributors didn't provide any rules or clear procedures that recommend music. Therefore, we raise important questions as follows: "Is Music Recommender Systems Fair?", "What is the impact of Music Recommender Systems on online music rankings and sales?" While previous studies have focused on usefulness of Music Recommender Systems, this study investigates not only fairness of Current Music Recommender Systems but also Relationship between Music Recommender Systems and online Music Charts. This study examines these issues based on Bandwagon effect, ranking effect, Slot effect theories. For our empirical analysis, we selected the most famous five online digital music distributors in terms of market shares. We found that all recommended music is exposed to the top of 'daily music charts' in online digital music distributors' websites. We collected music ranking data and recommended music data from 'daily music chart' during a one month. The result shows that online music recommender systems are not fair, since they mainly recommend particular music that supported by a specific music production company. In addition, the recommended music are always exposed to the top of music ranking charts. We also find that recommended music usually appear at the top 20 ranking charts within one or two days. Also, the most music in the top 50 or 100 ranks are the recommended music. Moreover, recommended music usually remain the ranking charts more than one month while non-recommended music often disappear at the ranking charts within two week. Our study provides an important implication to online music industry. Because music recommender systems and music ranking charts are closely related, music distributors may improperly use their recommender systems to boost the sales of music that related to their own companies. Therefore, online digital music distributor must clearly announce the rules and procedures about music recommender systems for the better music industry.
Experimental tests are described on three ring stiffened machined circular cylinders and three ring stiffened machined circular cones, which were tested to destruction under uniform external pressure. All six vessels failed by inelastic general instability. The experiments showed that the vessels initially deformed plastically at mid-bay in the circumferential direction, and this caused the circumferential tangent modulus to become much less than the elastic Young's modulus, causing the vessels to fail through plastic general instability at pressures much less than that predicted by elastic theory. Based on a thinness ratio, two semi-empirical design charts are provided, which are intended to be used for design purposes in conjunction with the finite element method and a plastic reduction factor.
