  • The durability prediction of emission control components, especially 02 sensor and catalytic converter, is getting more important as emission regulation is getting stricter and vehicle durability mileage requirement is also extended from 80,000 ㎞ to 160,000 km in Korean market. And the duration of vehicle mileage accumulation to get vehicle exhaust emission deterioration factor for certification is required to be shorter in order to reduce the vehicle development time. Since most of the vehicle emission development tests are done on chassis dynamometer and aging bench by using vehicle aging modes, real road condition and in-use driving patterns must be reflected into them to predict the vehicle emission level and to meet emission regulation especially at high mileage. In order to get the frequent driving pattern of vehicle and the aging characteristic of emission components, a vehicle was tested by changing drivers and driving roads around Seoul. Real road driving patterns were analyzed and compared with those of the certification modes which are well known in automotive industry.

  • In this paper, the bearing strengths and fracture behaviors of the pin-jointed carbon fiber/epoxy composites were investigated through pin loading test. The composites were fabricated by a filament winding process, and two types of laminated patterns were considered. According to the results, type 1 pattern revealed a net-tension failure mode, whereas type 2 pattern exhibited a bearing failure mode. Also, acoustic emission energy of the type 2 pattern was higher than that of the type 1 pattern. Therefore, the type 2 pattern was found to be structurally safer than the type 1 pattern.

  • Experimental studies were performed to improve the THC emission characteristics by optimizing the flow in the exhaust manifold and CCC in a SI engine. For this purpose the flow characteristics in the exhaust manifold and CCC were measured by using LDV technique under various engine conditions, Referring to these data a new type exhaust manifold was designed to improve the cold-start emission characteristics and the response characteristics of {{{{ OMICRON _2}}}} sensor by optimizing the flow pattern and reducing the thermal inertia of the exhaust manifold system. It was found through the vehicle emission tests that the emission characteristics of THC of the new type exhaust manifold was improved by 12% through the optimizing the flow pattern in the exhaust manifold.

  • Methane emission from the enteric fermentation of ruminant livestock is a main source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and a major concern for global warming. Methane emission is also associated with dietary energy lose; hence, reduce feed efficiency. Due to the negative environmental impacts, methane mitigation has come forward in last few decades. To date numerous efforts were made in order to reduce methane emission from ruminants. No table mitigation approaches are rumen manipulation, alteration of rumen fermentation, modification of rumen microbial biodiversity by different means and rarely by animal manipulations. However, a comprehensive exploration for a sustainable methane mitigation approach is still lacking. Dietary modification is directly linked to changes in the rumen fermentation pattern and types of end products. Studies showed that changing fermentation pattern is one of the most effective ways of methane abatement. Desirable dietary changes provide two fold benefits i.e. improve production and reduce GHG emissions. Therefore, the aim of this review is to discuss biology of methane emission from ruminants and its mitigation through dietary manipulation.

  • We have studied an angular dependence of emission pattern of top-emssion organic light-emitting diodes (TEOLED). Device structure is Al(100nm)/TPD(40nm)/$Alq_3$(60nm)/LiF(0.5nm)/Al(2nm)/Ag(30nm). N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-di(m-tolyl)-benzidine (TPD) and tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminium ($Alq_3$)were used as a hole transport layer and emission layer, respectively. Organic layers and cathode were thermally evaporated at $2\times10^{-5}$torr. The evaporation rate of the organic material was maintained to be $1.5\sim2.0{\AA}/s$, and that of metal layer to be $0.5\sim5{\AA}/s$. A transmittance of a cathode electrode(Al/Ag) in visible region is about 25~30%. In order to measure view-angle dependent intensity, electroluminenscence spectra of the device at each angle were integrated. Angle dependent emission spectra of the device do not show blue shift. Emission intensity of the device that the going straight characteristic is stronger the bottom-emission organic light-emitting diodes is shown.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the possibility of fuel rod pattern analysis in a fresh fuel assembly using the Yonsei single-photon emission computed tomography (YSECT) system. The YSECT system consisted of three main parts: four trapezoidal-shaped bismuth germanate scintillator-based 64-channel detectors, a semiconductor-based multi-channel data acquisition system, and a rotary stage. In order to assess the performance of the prototype YSECT, tomographic images were obtained for three representative fuel rod patterns in the 6 × 6 array using two representative image-reconstruction algorithms. The fuel-rod patterns were then assessed using an in-house fuel rod pattern analysis algorithm. In the experimental results, the single-directional projection images for those three fuel-rod patterns well discriminated each fuel-rod location, showing a Gaussian-peak-shaped projection for a single 10 mm-diameter fuel rod with 12.1 mm full-width at half maximum. Finally, we successfully verified the possibility of the fuel rod pattern analysis for all three patterns of fresh fuel rods with the tomographic images obtained by the rotational YSECT system.

  • This report makes an important correction to estimating angular dependent emission pattern of Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLEDs). Today, experiments on measuring angular light intensity of OLEDs are conducted without considering the difference between the view angle identified by photodiode and the actual angle being measured. ITO-TPD-$Alq_3$-LiF-Al Organic Light-Emitting Diode was used to find out the degree of the error. In this case, the difference in average was about $1^*$, which is highly significant. Since the difference varies from case to case, the need for adjustment must be evaluated for each case.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the mechanical behaviors and structural integrity of the weldment of high strength steel by using an acoustic emission (AE) techniques. Simple tension and AE tests were conducted against the 3 kind of welding test specimens. In order to analysis the effectiveness of weldability, joinability and structural integrity, we used K-means clustering method as a unsupervised learning pattern recognition algorithm for obtained multivariate AE main data sets, such as AE counts, energy, amplitude, hits, risetime, duration, counts to peak and rms signals. Through the experimental results, the effectiveness of the proposed method is discussed.
