  • Background: Heatstroke is one of the most serious heat-related illnesses. However, establishing public policies to prevent heatstroke remains a challenge. This study aimed to investigate the most relevant climate elements and their warning criteria to prevent outdoor heatstroke (OHS). Methods: We investigated heatstroke patients from five major hospitals in Daegu metropolitan city, Korea, from June 1 to August 31, 2011 to 2016. We also collected the corresponding regional climate data from Korea Meteorological Administration. We analyzed the relationship between the climate elements and OHS occurrence by logistic regression. Results: Of 70 patients who had heatstroke, 45 (64.3%) experienced it while outdoors. Considering all climate elements, only mean heat index (MHI) was related with OHS occurrence (p=0.019). Therefore, the higher the MHI, the higher the risk for OHS (adjusted odds ratio, 1.824; 95% confidence interval, 1.102-3.017). The most suitable cutoff point for MHI by Youden's index was $30.0^{\circ}C$ (sensitivity, 77.4%; specificity, 73.7%). Conclusion: Among the climate elements, MHI was significantly associated with OHS occurrence. The optimal MHI cutoff point for OHS prevention was $30.0^{\circ}C$.

  • This study is a descriptive study conducted to investigate the effect of smoking cigarette sign sold in Korea on the smoking cessation effects and to use it as a basis for future smoking cessation and health related health data. To this end, we surveyed 500 men and women over 20 years of age on the Internet Naver web using Naver form questionnaire for 10 days from October 1, 2018 using blogs and cafes. The analyzed data were analyzed by factor analysis, T-test and correlation using SPSS WIN20.0. The main findings were as follows: First, the cigarette warning picture harmful to human body had the biggest influence on the smoking cessation effect. Second, the smoking cessation effect had the highest correlation with the pre-question consciousness about the cigarette warning picture. This indicates that the cigarette pack warning is considered the most sensitive part of smokers. Based on the results of this paper, diversification of cigarette warning picture and regular replacement of warning picture are expected to provide useful basic data for suggesting practical measures to prevent smoking. do. Therefore, the smoking warning picture is widely promoted through the media and the media, which has a positive effect on the practice of quitting smoking to the public, and is also used as a basic data for the health policy for the health promotion of the public.

  • This study is a study dealing with the empirical test of standardized multimedia disaster warning broadcasting linked with the next-generation prediction and warning platform and the disaster warning additional data service of terrestrial UHD broadcasting. The next-generation prediction and warning platform used in the demonstration test complies with the CAP-based TTA standardization standard, and the UHD disaster warning additional data service complies with the AEAT standard. As a result of the experiment, when a standardized CAP disaster warning message is issued and delivered to a broadcasting company, a system was established so that it is automatically converted to AEAT, a UHD disaster warning additional data message, and transmitted. The receiver unit was configured by connecting a set-top capable of receiving disaster alert data and a TV with an HDMI cable. When a disaster is announced, the set-top displays the AEAT message on the TV broadcasting screen, customized to the priority of the disaster and the area where it is issued. In addition, incoming messages are displayed in a language suitable for user settings among 5 languages. Additional multimedia functions such as images and alarm sounds could also be linked. In particular, it was confirmed that the receiver message was displayed within 3 seconds of issuing the disaster alert, enabling prompt delivery of the disaster alert.

  • Recently, advanced sensors and communication technologies have been widely applied to advanced safety vehicles for reducing traffic accidents and injury severity. To apply the advanced safety vehicle technologies, it is important to quantify safety benefits, which is a fundamental for justifying application. This study proposed a methodology for quantifying the effectiveness of the Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS) with the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). When the proposed methodology is applied to 2008-2010 Gyeonggi-province crash data, ADAS would reduce about 10.18% of crashes. In addition, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking System, Lane Departure Warning System and Blind Spot Detection System are expected to reduce about 10.43%, 10.17%, 9.96%, and 10.18%, respectively. The outcomes of this study might support decision making for developing not only vehicular technologies but also relevant safety policies.

  • This paper presents the method of emergency warning system operation based on T-DMB and the design of T-DMB AEAS receiver model. The proposed receiver model compares the geographical location of emergency with the location of DMB transmitting station from T-DMB broadcasting signal and classifies the receiver location into alert region, neighboring region and non-alert region and transmits the emergency alert message according to each region. The geographical location of emergency can be obtained from FIG 5/2 EWS data field for AEAS message and the location of DMB transmitting station can be estimated from either the latitude and the longitude in main identifier and sub identifier in FIG 0/22 data filed for TII(Transmitter Identification Information) or TII distribution database. In our experiment, we implemented the proposed receiver model with display section, storage section, DMB module for receiving broadcasting signal and control section and performed test emergency alert broadcasting using T-DMB signal generator.

  • People generally believe that disaster forecast and warning systems and response systems are well established in the age of cutting edge technology. As a matter of fact, reliable systems to respond to disasters are not properly equipped, as we witnessed the Sewol ferry disaster in 2014. The existing forecast and warning systems are based on sensor information with low efficiency, and image information is only operated by monitoring staff manually. In addition, the interconnection between a warning system and a response system in order to decide how to cope with the recognized disaster is very insufficient. This paper introduces the CCTV based disaster recognition and real time crisis response system composed of the CCTV image recognition engine and the crisis response technique. This system has brought the possibility to overcome the limitations of existing sensor based forecast and warning systems, and to resolve the problems in the absence of monitoring staff when responding to crisis.

  • Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening disease that manifests with cardiorespiratory symptoms. Syncope can be a rare, but warning sign of PE. We report a case of a 49-year-old male diagnosed with PE who presented with recurrent syncope prior to typical cardiorespiratory symptoms. His computed tomography pulmonary angiogram revealed bilateral PE. Syncope can be a rare clinical symptom of PE, but considering lethality of the disease, a differential diagnosis of PE should be considered in patients with recurrent syncope.
