  • Gravitational lensed quasar systems are usually explained by a source quasar lensed by a galaxy that can be approximated by an isothermal sphere. But most galaxies have a supermassive black hole (SMBH) at its center. We study the lensing by an isothermal sphere with a central SMBH. The additional lensing effects of a SMBH on the number, position, and magnification of lensed images are investigated. We apply the analysis to observed lens systems including Q0957+561. We also study the lensing by an elliptical mass distribution with a SMBH.

  • The stress distribution around the cutout of composite cylindrical shells with a circular or elliptical reinforced cutout subjected to axial compression or tension is studied by asymptotic method. Analytical solutions used a Donnell type orthotropic shell theory are presented by the defined stress concentration factor and are compared to experimental results. The experiment used the universal testing machine (UTM), strain gage and fixtures designed/manufactured for axial tension test of a cylindrical shell is carried and the composite material used in the experiment is plain weave glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP).

  • A 3D structure production method for microstereolithography is a useful way that produces complex structures with flexible processes and low cost. Several UV curable resins were blended and the optimal resin for micro-lens fabricate was selected through viscosity, workability and transmission tests. It consists of 1, 6 - Hexanediol diacrylate with 15 Apha and Isobornyl acrylate for reducing some shrinkage. When fabricating a micro-lens array on large surface, some distortion of shape occurred because of the surface tension between cured part. To overcome this problem, the optimal processing conditions were derived from considering amount of the resin and surface tension. Large surface Micro-lens array, which are a type of elliptical convex and consist of 18,000 micro-lens in the range of 2cm*2cm were fabricated. The focal length to the X-axis and Y-axis were calculated. To verify the performance, measure an energy distribution of transmitted light from the Large surface Micro-lens array.

  • We examine both optical and optical/near-infrared (NIR) color distributions of the globular cluster (GC) system in the core of the Coma cluster of galaxies (Abell 1656), centered on the giant elliptical galaxy NGC 4874, to study how non-linearities in the color-metallicity relations of GC systems in large elliptical galaxies are linked to bimodal optical color distributions. Since optical-NIR color distributions of extragalactic GC systems reflect the underlying features of the metallicity distributions, we also present the color-color relation for this GC system. In order to do this, we combine F160W ($H_{160}$) NIR imaging data acquired with the Wide Field Camera 3 IR Channel (WFC3/IR), newly installed on Hubble Space Telescope (HST), with F475W ($g_{475}$) and FF814W ($I_{814}$) optical imaging data from the HST Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS). To quantitatively explain the feature of color distributions, we use the Gaussian Mixture Modeling (GMM) code. Finally, we show the radial distribution of the GCs in the field of NGC 4874.

  • Pancreatic endocrine cells containing glucagon, insulin, somatostatin and pancreatic polypeptide were identified in the pancreas of the Korean native goat by using immunohistochemical method. Glucagon immunoreative cells were oval or fusiform in shape and located at the periphery of the pancreatic islets. Insulin immunoreactive cells were round or oval in shape and occupied throughout the pancreatic islets except the small area of the periphery. Somatostatin immunoreative cells were oval and elliptical, and mainly located at the periphery of the pancreatic islets. Some of these cells had a cytoplasmic process. Pancreatic polypeptide immunoreactive cells were elliptical or polyhedral and located at the periphery of the pancratic islets where two or more cells formed a cell cluster. The distribution rates of glucagon, insulin, somatostatin and pancreatic polypeptide immunoreactive cells were 24.4%, 44.3%, 13.2% and 18.1% respectively.

  • We present a study of the metallicities, ages, and alpha-elements of globular clusters (GCs) in nearby giant elliptical galaxies (gEs) (M87, M49, M60, NGC 5128, NGC 1399, NGC 1407, and NGC 4636) using data in the literature. We used only the data for the GCs derived from the comparison of absorption line indices with the single stellar population model. The metallicity distributions of GCs in these gEs are bimodal, showing the existence of metal-poor and metal-rich populations. All these gEs harbor young GCs with ages less than 5 Gyr as well as old GCs. The mean age of the metal-rich GCs ([Fe/H]>-0.9) is about 3 Gyr younger than that of the metal-poor GCs. The mean values for the alpha-elements of the GCs are smaller than or similar to that of the Milky Way GCs. All the GCs in these gEs show an age-metallicity relation; the larger the metallicities of the GCs are, the younger the GCs are. Old GCs with ages > 10 Gyr have two distinct sub-populations (metal poor and metal rich), while young GCs show a broad metallicity distribution with a single peak. We discuss these results in relation with the formation of GCs in gEs.

  • Massive Compact Elliptical Galaxies (MCEGs) found in the local universe are as massive as normal galaxies but extremely compact (M∗ > 1011 Msun, Reff < 1.5 kpc). They are considered to be the relics of red nugget galaxies found at high redshift. They are not likely to have undergone many mergers, keeping their original mass and size. Moreover, it is expected that they host a dominant population of red (metal-rich) globular clusters rather than blue (metal-poor) ones. Indeed, Beasley et al. (2018) found that the color distribution of the cluster system of NGC 1277 is unimodal, showing only a red population. However, NGC 1277 is the only case whose cluster system was studied among MCEGs. In this study, we investigate globular cluster systems of 14 nearby MCEGs with a homogeneous data set of HST/WFC3 F814W/F160W archive images. We detect tens to hundreds of globular clusters in each galaxy and examine their color distributions. Surprisingly, the fractions of red globular clusters are similar to those of normal galaxies, and are much lower than that of NGC 1277. We additionally obtain Gemini/GMOS-N g'r'i' images of PGC 70520, one of the 14 nearby MCEGs, to detect more globular clusters from deeper and wider images. We will discuss the results from the Gemini data combined with the results from the HST data in relation with the formation of MCEGs.

  • Impinging angle, impinging distance, length eve. diameter and injection pressure of a triplet injector were tested to evaluate the spray characteristics injected by liquid/gas combinations. Two different kinds of unlike triplet sprays were produced by changing the gas and liquid feed lines. One was the G-L-G(Gas-Liquid-Gas) type, and the other was L-G-L(Liquid-Gas-Liquid) type. Spray angles were wider with the G-L-G type than with L-G-L type. Mass distributions in spray were obtained with a, mechanical patternator. Mass distributions were not circular but elliptical distributions. When the range of mechanical patternator to injector decreased, mass distributions were more concentrated in the center region.
