The purpose of this research was to survey and compare the status of science preference of elementary school students with that of middle school students. Preference for science was defined theoretically. According to theoretical model, a questionnaire was developed with piloting and consisted of three parts. First part was for background information, second part, for measurement of science preference and third for measurement of the relevant factors of science preference. The questionnaire was modified for primary school students. In July 2002, the questionnaire was administered to one class per grade of randomly selected 8 elementary and 8 middle schools all over the country and analyzed result of collected 696 elementary school students and 819 middle school students. Middle school students' science preference was low compared with elementary school students, especially in 'emotional response and 'valuational comprehension'. The preference for science became lower especially from 4th to 5th grade and from 8th to 9th grade. The differences of mean science preference were significant by gender. perception of science achievement. and future career choice. The average of science preference relevant factors of middle school students also became lower than elementary students, especially in 'educational factor'. Multiple regression analysis on the science preference showed that important factors were personal ability, the personal traits, rewards in school science and contents of school science, slightly different in elementary and secondary school. The way to promote students' preference for science was suggested on the analysis result.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the elementary school students' perceptions of scientist and socio-cultural background towards science. Subjects are 120 ordinary students of elementary school and 75 participators in invention club and science camp for talented students in a metropolitan city. A questionnaire for investigating the students' perceptions and Images about scientist was developed. That contains the items for socio-cultural background and experiences towards science. The results of this study showed that the elementary students think scientist is younger than the previous students thought. But as yet, the representative image of scientist is the neat man with glasses and gown. Also, a majority of elementary students like science, science subject and science classroom, especially experiment activity. They have various experiences related in science.
It is suggested that evaluation of diet quality may be a great indicator of nutritional assessment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diet quality of children and adolescents based on nutrient and food group intake and Diet Quality Index-International (DQI-I). This survey was conducted through questionnaires and diet record survey to 477 students (elementary school students; n = 131, middle school students; n = 136, and high school students; n = 210). The results showed that high school students were significantly more often to skip breakfast compared with the other groups. The middle and high school students consumed significantly higher intakes of food and energy compared to the elementary school students. Also the number of nutrients in Index of Nutritional Quality (INQ) < 1.0 of high school students were significantly higher than that of elementary and middle school students. The Korean's dietary diversity score (KDDS) of elementary school, middle school and high school students were 4.1, 4.4 and 4.3 respectively. The average DQI-I of elementary school, middle school and high school students were 66.7, 65.5, and 63.7, respectively and there was significant difference. Also, middle school students showed to have higher score in variety and adequacy category compared with the other groups, and elementary school students appeared to have higher score in moderation category. In conclusion, high school students appeared to have unhealthy dietary habits in terms of high frequency of skipping breakfast and lower INQ and DQI-I score compared to the elementary school and middle school students. Therefore, the proper dietary management should be needed for high school students.
This study focused the recognition and preference of Korean traditional food of elementary school students, in order to make effective educational materials about Korean traditional foods for the elementary school students. According to the responses of 356 elementary school students participating in this research, they understood the concept of traditional Korean food and recognized positively, but did not have much interest. However, the more they liked Korean food, the higher their interest in Korean traditional foods and the higher utilization rates of Korean traditional foods. Most elementary school students enjoyed Korean traditional food occasionally, especially soup, jjigae, tang and jeongol. Elementary school students suggested that complicated recipes should be improved for the succession of Korean traditional foods and that the class for cooking traditional foods in schools should be expanded.
To analyze the dietary behavior and food preference of Korean youth, we surveyed 140 elementary school 6th grade students and 154 high school first grade students in Youngnam Provinces. The average height and weight for the elementary school students were 153cm and 45.3kg for boys and 153.4cm and 44.6kg for girls. The body types depending on the body mass index(BMI) were 45.7% for under-weight, 47.1% for standard, 3.6% for overweight and 3.6% for obesity. The average height and weight for the high school students were 172.5cm and 64.5kg for boys and 160.1cm and 51.7kg for girls. The body types depending on the BMI were 11.0% for under-weight, 70.8% for standard, 13.0% for overweight and 5.2% for obesity. In their food preference, they preferred one-dish food to main dishes and rice with cereals was more popular among high school students. There were higher standard scores in fruit, snack, fried, and Kimchi dishes and high school students showed a high preference especially for snack and fried foods. The Kimchi dishes were more popular among elementary school students and they showed high scores in those dishes regardless of how they were cooked. There was the lowest preference for Korean vegetable salad and the highest for food cooked with meat In conclusion, a difference was found in the food preference of elementary school and high school students and the nutrient intake of elementary school students was lower than that of high school students. Therefore, elementary schools should provide proper nutritional education for students.
The purpose of this study is to find out the level of science teaching efficacy belief in the elementary school teachers and to find out the students' science process skills and scientific attitudes according to the level of the teacher's science teaching efficacy belief. After measuring science teaching efficacy belief of 109 teachers from nine elementary schools, three teachers who received the high score and three teachers who received the low score were selected from each 5th and 6th grade. Science process skills and scientific attitudes of 331 students who were in the selected 12 teachers' classes were measured. The results of this study were as follows; First, there were significant differences on the elementary school teachers' science teaching efficacy belief according to teacher's gender and career. The men's average score was clearly higher than women's average score on personal science teaching efficacy in science teaching efficacy belief according to teacher's gender. There was a obvious difference between the group of more than six-year less than ten-year and the group of more than fifteen-year less than twenty-year, the group of more than twenty-year on science teaching outcome expectancy in science teaching efficacy belief according to teacher's career. Second, there was not a evident difference on the elementary school students' science process skill according to the level of the elementary school teachers' science teaching efficacy. Third, there was a distinct difference on the elementary school students' scientific attitude according to the elementary school teachers' science teaching efficacy. There was a significant difference on the openness and the endurance in each scientific attitude. The level of science teaching efficacy belief in the elementary school teachers had few effects on the elementary school students' science process skill, on the other hand the level of science teaching efficacy belief in the elementary school teachers had an positive effect on the elementary school students' scientific attitude.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the level of role expectation of school health teachers recognized by elementary students and nursing college students and to compare role expectations between the two groups. Methods: The participants in this study were 323 elementary school students from 2 schools and 112 nursing students from 2 universities. Data was collected by a structured self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA by the SPSS 19.0 program. Results: The elementary students and nursing students recognized health service and health education as the most important role expectation for school health teachers. The role expectation of nursing students was higher than those of elementary students. The elementary students' points of view for role expectation were statistically different according to their health status. Conclusion: To improve the school health teacher's role, understanding the client's expectation is necessary. In addition to the role of health service and education, counseling for elementary students should be developed.
School adjustment of elementary school children is one of the most important things,sinceitisthebasisofthefuturelife. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between parent-child relationship, peer relationship, teacher-child relationship, and school adjustment of elementary school students. The research topics of the present study were as follows: (1) Is the school adjustment of elementary school students different depending upon the parent-child relationship? (2) Is the school adjustment of elementary school students different depending upon the peer relationship? (3) Is the school adjustment of elementary school students different depending upon the teacher-child relationship in school? (4) Is the school adjustment of elementary school students different depending upon the grade, and sex? 460 students were sampled in Kangwon-do, and 400 were used in the final data analyses, excluding 60 due to the incomplete answering. Parent-child relationship inventory, peer relationship inventory, teacher-child relationship scale, and school adjustment scale were used. Data were analyzed using SPSS(win) 10.1K. The results were as follows: First, elementary school students adjust themselves to the school better when parent-child relationship, peer relationship, and teacher-child relationship are good. Second, teacher-child relationship has the most important effects on the school adjustment, and peer relationship, and parent-child relationship sequentially. Third, 4th graders adjust to the school better than the 6th, and there is no difference between boys and girls in terms of school adjustments. Based on the above results, discussion and implications for the future research and education were as below: First, teachers need to understand children's school adjustments depend upon their human relationships especially upon teacher-student relationships. Second, teachers need to understand students have more difficulties in adjusting to the school when they grow older. Third, teachers have to keep the children positive peer relationship, and parent-child relationship which are important in children's adjusting to the school. Fourth, future researches need nation-wide sampling and more systematized research design in order to generalize the results.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the elementary school students' perception about "the aims of school science experiments". For this study, the perceptions were surveyed from 193 elementary school students (96 boys and 97 girls) in one school located in Gyeonggi-Do. The responses were analyzed with categorization based on their gender, school science test scores. The results from this study were as follows; in relation to the aims of school science experiments, the elementary school students considered intrinsic values of doing experiments were more worthy than the extrinsic values of it. It was found that 25.4% of the students had ideas that students do science experiments for understanding science theory. Up to 70% of the students responded that they do science experiments for understanding and memorizing the contents of science textbooks. School science experiments were regarded as an educational tool for the science study. It is recommended that teacher need to make clear the aims of laboratory work and help students to understand of it.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Earth System Education using multimedia on the elementary school students' environmental sensitivity and pro-environmental behavior. To verify this research problem, the subject of this study was fifth-grade students selected from two classes of M elementary school located in Busan city. For three months, the experimental group of 25 students was taught using multimedia. The comparison group also of 26 students was taught in normal classes which used a text-book. All students were given pre and post test to verify the effects of Earth System Education using multimedia on elementary school student's environmental sensitivity and pro-environmental behavior. The results from this study are as the following. First, Earth System Education using multimedia were effective on elementary school student's environmental sensitivity. Second, Earth System Education using multimedia were effective on elementary school student's pro-environmental behavior. Third, All most all experimental students were satisfied with Earth System Education using multimedia. In conclusion, Earth System Education using multimedia showed very positive effects on improvement of elementary school students' environmental sensitivity and pro-environmental behavior.
