The length of root canal has to be measured for endodontic treatment. Several electronic apex locators were developed to measure the length of root canal by other researchers. And their accuracies were verified by X-ray or micrometer method. But these methods did not consider the non-linear bends of pulp and had ${\pm}0.5mm$ error which was large enough to measure the length of root canal. The purpose of this study is the introduction of a new method to measure the length of root canal and the verification of the accuracy of an electronic apex locator using a Micro-CT. The length of root canal of 6 teeth were measured with the electronic apex locator. When the electronic apex locator reads 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9 and 1.0 mm length of the file which was inserted in the hole of the tooth to measure the length of root canal. The average (${\pm}$Standard deviation) length of root canal of 6 teeth measured by the Micro-CT was $0.49{\pm}0.03,\;0.59{\pm}0.04,\;0.68{\pm}0.03,\;0.78{\pm}0.03,\;0.90{\pm}0.04\;and\;1.01{\pm}0.03mm$, respectively. The maximum error of the electronic apex locator was 0.06 mm.

In this study, nano-sized powders of $Si0_2-0^{\sim}15mol%B_2O_3$ composition were prepared by sol-gel processing method using TEOS(Tetra ethyl ortho silicate) and $H_3BO_3$ solution. The powders were tape-cast on High silicate glass sheet(HSG) substrate and sintered to form a layer of undercladding for the planar light wave module, During the sol-gel processing, $H_2O/Si$ mole ratio were varied to modify the size of the powders in a range from 600 to 75nm. The dispersion of the powder was modified by changing the pH of the slurry. Sintering temperature of the tape was observed to decrease with the size of the powder and the $B_2O_3$ content in the powder. When the silica powders of 75-125nm in diameter containing 15mol% $B_2O_3$ were used, 98 TD% was obtained at $1250^{\circ}C$, which is approximately $300^{\circ}C$ reduction in sintering temperature compared with micrometer-sized powders.

Existing cooling technologies no longer provide adequate heat dissipation due to excessive heat generation caused by the growing component density on electronic devices. An ionic gas pump can be used for the thermal management of micro-electronic devices, since the size of pump can be reduced to a micrometer scale. In addition, the gas pump allows for gas flow control and generation without moving parts. This ideal property of gas pump gives rise to a variety of applications. However, all these applications require maximizing the wind velocity of gas pump. In this study a barrier discharge type gas pump, with a needle-shaped corona electrode instead of a plate-shaped corona electrode, has been investigated by focusing on the corona electrode shape on the wind velocity and wind generation yield. As a result, the enhanced wind velocity and wind generation yield of 1.76 and 3.37 times were obtained with the needle-shaped corona electrode as compared with the plate-shaped corona electrode of the proposed barrier discharge type gas pump.

The demand for sub-micrometer or nanometer functional ceramic powders with a better suspension behavior in aqueous media in increasing. Redispersible barium titanate (BT) nanocrystals, green light emitting Mn2+ doped Zn$_2$SiO$_4$ and ZnS nanoparticle phosphors were synthesized by a hydrothermal method or chemical precipitation with surface modification. The nanoparticle redispersibility for BT was achieved by using a polymeric surfactant. X-ray diffraction(XRD) results indicated that the BT particles are of cubic phase with 80 nm in size. XRD results of zinc silicate phosphor indicate that seeds play an important role in enhancing the nucleation and crystallization of Zn$_2$SiO$_4$ crystals in a hydrothermal condition. This paper describes and discuss the methods of surface modification, and the resulting related properties for BT, zinc silicate and zinc sulfide.
Hollow or bumpy ZnO structures with micrometer-size features have been investigated as photocatalysts for water purification due to their high surface area available for reaction with harmful organic molecules and relatively large size for easy separation after finishing the photocatalytic reaction. In this study, selective synthesis of ZnO hollow or crumpled microspheres was performed using a simple and versatile ultrasonic spray pyrolysis process with various zinc precursors. The morphologies, phases, specific surface areas, and optical properties of the microspheres were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, and UV-vis spectroscopy. In addition, the mechanism underlying the formation of different morphologies and their photocatalytic activities were systematically investigated.
This paper is to develop a measurement system of the displacement distance using ultrasonic sensors. Two 400KHz ultrasonic sensors are used for realizing the measurement system, such as one sensor transmits the sine wave and the other sensor receives this wave. The displacement is measured by the phase difference between transmitting and receiving signals. A phase defecter transforms phase difference to voltage. Because the output voltage pattern has nonlinear characteristics, the relations of the voltage and the distance are learned by a neural network. As the results of teaming, the efficiency of measurement system is improved. This system can measure the displacement distance at the accuracy of 1 micrometer level.

In order to study the relation between expansion of the specimen and the hydrogen absorption rate, thin palladium plates with cold rolling were used. Thin palladium plates were hydrogenated in the 0.1mol $H_2SO_4$ electrolyte by electrochemical method. The expansion behavior on hydrogen absorbing can be obtained by X-ray diffraction analysis and by micrometer measurement It is noted that the expansion rate of Palladium specimens in thickness direction is larger than in length and width direction. The lattice constants increase quickly with increasing hydrogen absorbing rate up to 0.5, but above the rate they keep constant. Also the clues for plastic deformation, such as slip lines and voids, were observed in abundantly even though the plates were hydrogenated once.
The unique electronic property of graphene sheets provides potential applications in nanocomposites and fabricating various nicroelectrical devices, such as field-effect transistors, ultrasensitive sensors, and electromechanical resonators. Several effective techniques have been developed for preparing graphene sheets. Among these technique, mechanical exfoliation can produce pure graphene and epitaxial graphene sheets have been prepared by treatment of silicon carbide wafers at high temperature. Recently, graphene sheets have been developed by chemical reduction method from graphene oxide. In this work, we have synthesized graphene sheets based on mechanical exfoliation and chemical reduction methods. Graphene sheets were characterized by field-effect scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The size of graphene sheets was from few hundreds nanometer to decades micrometer.

Improvement in breakdown voltage ($BV_{ds}$) and speed of the device are the key issues among the researchers for enhancing the performance of HEMT. Increased speed of the device aspires for shortened gate length ($L_g$), but due to lithographic limitation, shortening $L_g$ below sub-micrometer requires the inclusion of various metal-insulator geometries like T-gate onto the conventional architecture. It has been observed that the speed of the device can be enhanced by minimizing the effect of upper gate electrode on device characteristics, whereas increase in the $BV_{ds}$ of the device can be achieved by considering the finite effect of the upper gate electrode. Further, improvement in $BV_{ds}$ can be obtained by applying field plates, especially at the drain side. The important parameters affecting $BV_{ds}$ and cut-off frequency ($f_T$) of the device are the length, thickness, position and shape of metal-insulator geometry. In this context, intensive simulation work with analytical analysis has been carried out to study the effect of variation in length, thickness and position of the insulator under the gate for various metal-insulator gate geometries like T-gate, $\Gamma$-gate, Step-gate etc., to anticipate superior device performance in conventional HEMT structure.
