This study was designed to determine the most effective concentration of fluoride and levels of laser irradiation for the remineralization of decayed teeth. After irradiation with a pulsed Nd:YAG laser and the topical application of fluoride, phosphate and fluoride concentration in enamel were measured. And then the changes on surface enamel using an scanning electron microscope were observed. Samples by extraction healthy, permanent, mandibular bovine teeth with no caries were obtained. Among them 371 healthy samples were selected and artificial carious lesions were made. 20 samples were assigned to each experimental group. After irradiation with a pulsed Nd:YAG laser with total energy densities of 10J/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 20J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for each group. On the teeth, 2% NaF, 1.9% NH4F, 1.6% TiF4 Elmex gel(amine fluoride) and 1.23% APF gel were applied. After pH circulatory procedures, concentrations of fluoride with and Ionalyzer (Orion Research, Model 901, USA) and phosphates with an Uv/V is spectrophotometer (Uvikon 860, Kontrom Co, Switzerland) were measured. By etching the teeth in layers and measuring fluoride concentrations, a profile of fluoride penetration according to depth could be developed. And also the changes on the surface of the enamel using an electron scanning microscope were observed. The comparative analysis yielded the following results : 1. Phosphate concentration was low in all groups compared with the control group except for teeth treated Elmex gel, irradiated with 10J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 30J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ energy densities. Teeth treated with APF gel and 30J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ irradiation gad the lowest phosphate concentration. 2. Among all groups, fluoride concentrations in tooth enamel were highest in APF gel and NaF groups irradiated at 30J/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The APF gel group had the highest fluoride concentrations across all energy densities. 3. In the APF gel group, and the NaF group, the greater the energy density of the laser, the higher the fluoride concentrations in the enamel. 4. In all groups, the concentration of fluoride in the enamel by depth tended to decrease with depth. 5. Under the scanning electron microscope, under the condition of irradiation with 20J/$\textrm{cm}^2$, enamel crack was detected for the first time. In the NH4F group, spherical deposits were found on the surface of the enamel, and in the TiF4 group the surface of enamel was covered with an irregular, thin membranous mass in places. In the APF gel and NaF groups irradiated with 10J/$\textrm{cm}^2$, spherical and irregular particles covered the teeth. When these groups were irradiated at 20J/cm2, they were covered with amorphous crystals. These results suggest that one could obtain more effective anticariogenic effects without damage to teeth when less than 20J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ energy densities and APF gel are used.

This paper studied the effect on the microstructure, electrical properties, and compressive strength of cement mortar containing carbon fiber (CF) and steel fiber (SF), which are conductive materials. The resistivity of conductive fiber-reinforced cement mortar (FRCM) was measured using the 4-probe method, and the compressive strength was measured based on the compression test. Their performance was compared and reviewed with plain mortar (PM). Furthermore, the surface shape and composition of the fracture surface of the conductive FRCM were analyzed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an energy disperse X-ray spectrometer (EDS). The results showed that the resistivity gradually increased as the curing time increased in all specimens, whereas the resistivity decreased significantly as the fiber volume fraction increased. Adding steel fibers up to 1.25% did not affect the resistivity of cement mortar considerably. On the contrast, the resistivity of carbon fiber was somewhat decreased even at low contents (ie, 0.1 to 0.3%), and thereafter, it was significantly decreased. The percolation threshold of the conductive CFRCM containing CF used in this experiment was 0.4%, and it is judged to be the optimum carbon fiber dosage to maximize the conductive effect while maintaining the compressive strength performance as much as possible. For the surface shape and composition analysis of conductive FRCM, the fracture surface was observed through SEM-EDS. These results are considered to be very useful in establishing the microstructure mechanism of reinforcing fibers in cement mortars.

To quantitatively estimate mass contribution of long-range transported yellow sand, their sources should be separated independently from various local soil sources having similar elemental compositions. While it is difficult to estimate total mass loadings of pure yellow sand by traditional bulk analysis, it can be clearly solved by an particle-by-particle analysis. To perform this study, two yellow sand samples and three local soil samples were collected by a mini-volume sampler. These samples were three analyzed using a scanning electron microscope(SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive x-ray analyser (EDX) was used to obtain basic chemical information of individual yellow san particles. A total of 19 elements in a single particle were measured to develop a source profile with newly created homogeneous particle classes (HPCs) as chemical variables. The present study showed that the yellow sand samples as well as three local soil samples were characterized with reasonably well created HPCs. Finally the mass fraction of each HPC in each sample was calculated and then compared each other.
The photovoltaic properties of $TiO_2$ used for the electron transport layer in perovskite solar cells(PSCs) are compared according to the particle size. The PSCs are fabricated and prepared by employing 20 nm and 30 nm $TiO_2$ as well as a 1:1 mixture of these particles. To analyze the microstructure and pores of each $TiO_2$ layer, a field emission scanning electron microscope and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) method are used. The absorbance and photovoltaic characteristic of the PSC device are examined over time using ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared spectroscopy and a solar simulator. The microstructural analysis shows that the $TiO_2$ shape and layer thicknesses are all similar, and the BET analysis results demonstrate that the size of $TiO_2$ and in surface pore size is very small. The results of the photovoltaic characterization show that the mean absorbance is similar, in a range of about 400-800 nm. However, the device employing 30 nm $TiO_2$ demonstrates the highest energy conversion efficiency(ECE) of 15.07 %. Furthermore, it is determined that all the ECEs decrease over time for the devices employing the respective types of $TiO_2$. Such differences in ECE based on particle size are due to differences in fill factor, which changes because of changes in interfacial resistance during electron movement owing to differences in the $TiO_2$ particle size, which is explained by a one-dimensional model of the electron path through various $TiO_2$ particles.
In this paper, we analyzed the fire hazard of the ballast for fluorescent lamp used as the indoor lighting. In the result of being analyzed the ballast wire by stereo microscope, many melting points were discovered, it was impossible to judge a cause with the naked eye. In the Thermal-deteriorated ballast wire, elongation structure disappeared at above $700^{\circ}$, and it only showed the enlarged appearance of the copper particle. On the metallurgical microscope of short wire, as it was confirmed the regulation of the columnar structure and the void growth at the center of boundary-face, we found that electrical short-circuit generated. Also, it was confirmed the melted part on the analysis using SEM(scanning electron microscope). Not only CuL and Cuk line that is composition factor of copper but also OK line was observed uniformly on the spectra analysis using EDX(energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy). It means that oxygen took part in reaction at the recombination process.

This paper discusses a study of cement mortar reinforced with Graphene Oxide (GO) flakes carried out at the University of Plymouth. Over 60 specimens were prepared and tested to obtain the tensile, compressive and flexural strengths of cement mortar with/without 0.5% GO flakes by weight of cement. The dispersion of the GO flakes and the effect of the use of polycarboxylate ether superplasticizer (0.2% by weight of cement) on the material strength are discussed. Images of the particle sizes of GO are presented from the transmission electron microscopy analysis. In addition, the images from the field emission scanning electron microscope analysis are also presented to show the difference of the microscopic structure of cement mortar with/without GO. The results of the strength tests are presented. It is shown that the inclusion of the GO flakes in general led to positive results, which suggest that GO improved the tensile, compressive and flexural strengths of cement mortar.
[ $C_{60}$ ] molecule, the Buckminsterfullerene, has generated great interest because of its unique molecular structure and of superconductivity exhibited in its alkali-doped solids. We have investigated the molecular stacking and crystal structure of $C_{60}$ thin crystals formed on amorphous carbon film. The $C_{60}$ powder which was chromatographically purified was dissolved in benzene. The thin crystals of $C_{60}$ were observed with a 300 keV transmission electron microscope. Electron diffraction analysis and direct imaging of its molecular stacking were carried out. It was found from this work that the molecules of $10.0{\AA}$ diameter are arrayed hexagonally on substrate surface and $8.7{\AA}$ lattice planes are quite often found in several types of ED patterns, which can never be explained with a fcc model. Therefore the structure of $C_{60}$ thin crystals is hcp, although we cannot fully exclude the possibility of co-existence of hcp and fcc.
Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) together with MD2, one of the key pattern recognition receptors for a pathogen-associated molecular pattern, activates innate immunity by recognizing lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of Gram-negative bacteria. Although LBP and CD14 catalyze LPS transfer to the TLR4/MD2 complex, the detail mechanisms underlying this dynamic LPS transfer remain elusive. Using negative-stain electron microscopy, we visualized the dynamic intermediate complexes during LPS transfer-LBP/LPS micelles and ternary CD14/LBP/LPS micelle complexes. We also reconstituted the entire cascade of LPS transfer to TLR4/MD2 in a total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscope for a single molecule fluorescence analysis. These analyses reveal longitudinal LBP binding to the surface of LPS micelles and multi-round binding/unbinding of CD14 to single LBP/LPS micelles via key charged residues on LBP and CD14. Finally, we reveal that a single LPS molecule bound to CD14 is transferred to TLR4/MD2 in a TLR4-dependent manner. These discoveries, which clarify the molecular mechanism of dynamic LPS transfer to TLR4/MD2 via LBP and CD14, provide novel insights into the initiation of innate immune responses.

In past few years, the use of bacterial calcium carbonate precipitation (biocementation) has become popular as a ground improvement technique for sandy soil. However, this technique was not applied to organic soil. This study focused on bacterial calcium carbonate precipitation and its effect on permeability in organic soil. A special injection system was prepared for inducing bacterial solution to the samples. The bacterial solution supplied to the samples by gravity for 4 days in specific molds designed for this work. Calcite precipitation was observed by monitoring pH value and measuring amount of calcium carbonate. Change in the permeability was measured before and after biocementation. The test results showed that the pH values indicates that the treatment medium is appropriate for calcite precipitation, and amount of precipitated calcium carbonate in organic soil increased about 20% from untreated one. It was also found that the biocementation can be considered as an effective method for reducing permeability of organic soil. The results were supported by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis and energy-dispersive x-ray (EDX) analysis.
In this study, the influence of dilauroyl peroxide on mechanical and thermal properties of different polypropylene (PP) matrices was investigated. Polypropylene matrices, different molecular weight isotactic PP containing 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, and 0.1 wt% of dilauroyl peroxide (DLP) were prepared by using a single-screw extruder. The effect of the visbreaking agent (DLP) on mechanical, physical, thermal and morphological properties of different molecular weight PP had been studied. Mechanical properties (tensile strength at break point, at yield and elongation at break point), melt flow index (MFI), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) analyses of these matrices were examined. Melting ($T_m$) and crystallization ($T_c$) temperatures, crystallinity ratio (%) and enthalpies were determined. The microstructure of isotactic polypropylene matrix was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). From SEM analysis, it was observed that the surface disorder increased by the increasing amount of DLP. As a result of DSC analyses, the crystallinity ratio of the PP matrices has varied between 1.64-7.27%. Mechanical properties of the matrices have been improved. Particularly, the mechanical tests of PP have given interesting results when compounded with 0.06-0.08 wt% dilauroyl peroxide (DLP). Mechanical properties and thermal decomposition processes were all changed by increasing the amount of DLP in the matrix structure.
