Inactivation of Agrobacterium tumefaciens was evaluated on the inoculated fresh Radix Ginseng by electron beam irradiation or aqueous chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$) treatment. Two groups of fresh ginsengs were prepared and inoculated with A. tumefaciens. One group was then irradiated at 0, 2, and 4 kGy using an electron beam accelerator, and the other group was treated with 0, 50, and 100 ppm of aqueous $ClO_2$. Microbiological data indicated that populations of A. tumefaciens significantly decreased with increasing irradiation dose or aqueous $ClO_2$ concentration. In particular, A. tumefaciens was eliminated by irradiation at 4 kGy, and 100 ppm $ClO_2$ treatment reduced the populations of A. tumefaciens by 1.44 log CFU/g. These results suggest that electron beam irradiation or aqueous $ClO_2$ treatment can be useful in improving the microbial safety of fresh ginsengs during storage.

This study was performed to investigate whether the decomposition process of $SF_6$ using an electron beam is economically reasonable when applied to the actual field. To do this, electron beam experiment and economic analysis were conducted. The experiment conditions are initial concentration of 1% of $SF_6$, 1 mA of input energy and 15 mA of flow rate with $H_2$ as an additive which were obtained from our previous research. As a result, removal efficiency of $SF_6$ was 90% for 8 hours continuously. In addition, economic analysis shows positive results in terms of using $SF_6$ decomposition process using electron beam. According to the analysis, the revenue is approximately 1.66 billion won in the first year and 3 billion won in the second year.
We calculated the energy distribution and the percentage depth-dose at 10 cm in a $10{\times}10\;cm^2$ with a photon beam at SSD of 100 cm by using a Monte Carlo Simulation. PDD is used as a beam-quality specifier for radiotherapy beams. It is better than the commonly used values of TPR or nominal accelerating potential. The presence of electron contamination affects the measurement of PDD, but can be removed by the use of a 0.1 cm lead filter. It reduces surface dose from contaminant electrons from the accelerator by more than 90% for radiotherapy beams. The filter performs best when it is placed immediately below the head. An electron-contamination correction factor is introduced to correct for electron contamination from the filter and air. It converts PDD which includes the electron contamination with the filter in place into PDD for the photons in the filtered beam. The correction factor can be used to determine stopping-power ratio. Calculations show that the values of water-to-air slopping power ratio in the unfiltered beam are related to PDD.
In printed electronics, printing rolls are used to transfer electronic ink onto a flexible substrate. Generally printing rolls are patterned in microscale by the indirect laser method. Since based on the wet etch process, the indirect method is neither environment-friendly nor suitable for making a printing roll with patterns narrower than $20{\mu}m$. In this paper, we have directly engraved micro-patterns into a Zn-coated metal specimens using a picosecond laser in order both to engrave $10{\mu}m$-wide patterns and to improve the pattern profile. Experiments showed that it is possible to engrave $10{\mu}m$-wide patterns with an a rectangular-shaped profile which is necessary for the dimensionally accurate printing.
The electron energy spectra for 6 MeV electron beam were calculated using a MCNPX code. The head of the linear accelerator (ML6M; Mitsubishi, Japan) was modelled for this study. The energy spectrum of the initial electron beam was assumed to be Gaussian and the mean energy was determined by evaluating the measured and calculated values of $R_{50}$ and dose profiles in air. The energy distributions for electrons and photons at the interested points in the head of the linear accelerator were calculated by appling the Initial beam parameters. The effect of contaminant photons on depth dose curves were estimated by the photon energy spectra at the end of the applicator.
The use of electron beam irradiation was investigated to disinfect total coliforms in the secondary sewage treatment effluent. Unchlorinated secondary effluent was irradiated at different dose of 0.2~1.0 kGy by 1 MeV, ELV-4 Model electron beam accelerator. It is interesting to note that a 100 % reduction in total coliforms and total colonies were achieved until a dose of approximately 0.8 kGy. Even at low dose of 0.2 kGy, the total coliforms and total colonies were successfully inactivated to the level of satisfying the new effluent discharge guideline. Besides disinfection of total coliforms, approximately a 50% removal in biochemical oxygen demand was pronounced at a dose of 0.2 kGy. More than 20 % removal in suspended solids and turbidity was also observed at a dose of 1.0 kGy. The application of electron beam irradiation appeared to be one of options to reuse sewage treatment effluent as agricultural or industrial water.

This study gives the optimal reaction conditions, reaction mechanisms, reaction rates leaded from the oxidation of phenol by electron beam accelerator and ozone used for recent water treatment. It gives the new possibility of water treatment process to effectively manage industrial sewage containing toxic organic compounds and biological refractory materials. The high decomposition of phenol was observed at the low dose rate, but at this low dose rate, the reaction time was lengthened. So we must find out the optimal dose rate to promote high oxidation of reactants. The reason why the TOC value of aqueous solution wasn't decreased at the low dose was that there were a lot of low molecular organic acids as an intermediates such as formic acid or glyoxalic acid. In order to use both electron beam accelerator and biological treatment for high concentration refractory organic compounds, biological treatment is needed when low molecular organic compounds exist abundantly in sewage. In this experiment, the condition of making a lot of organic acids is from 5 kGy into 20 kGy dose. Decomposition rate of phenol by electron beam accelerator was first order reaction up to 300ppm phenol solution on the basic of TOC value and also showed first order reaction by using both air and ozone as an oxidants.
Experimental measurements of dose characteristics with pentagonal applicator at nominal energy of 4, 6, 9, 12 and 15 MeV electron beam were performed for intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) in ML-15MDX linear accelerator. This paper presents the percent depth dose, surface dose, beam flatness and output factors of using the IORT applicator in different electron beam energy. The output factor showed as a 24 percent higher in IORT applicator than that of reference $10{\times}10cm^2$ applicator. The surface dose of using the IORT applicator showed 7.7 and 2.7 percent higher than that of reference field in 4 and 15 MeV electron beam, respectively. In our experiments, the variation of percent depth dose was very small but the output factor and flatnees at 0.5 cm depth have showed a large value in IORT applicator.

We have established a pulsed electron beam generation system with an energy of 200[keV], pulse repetition rate of 200[Hz], and several tens of [${\mu}s$] pulse width. The system is characterized by a cold cathode that is simpler than the hot cathode. Target object does not need to be scanned because of large aperture electron beam of 300[$cm^2$]. Electron source is secondary electrons that are generated when the ions from the glow discharge collide on the cathode surface. In this paper, the discharge current characteristics are investigated experimentally as a function of He gas pressure in order to obtain stable glow discharge. And computer simulations are carried out as a preliminary study for the development of low energy large aperture electron beam generator. The variation of electon beam current is investigated as a function of rising time of high voltage when 20[kV] potential is applied in 20[mTorr] pressure.
The purpose of this study investigates the effects of electron beam(EB) irradiation on the chemical and morphological properties of Hansan ramie fiber. Hansan ramie fibers were irradiated with electron beam doses of 0, 1, 3, 5 and 10kGy. The effect of electron beam irradiation on the chemical components of fibers as well as the surface chemical and morphological properties were investigated using chemical component analysis methods based on TAPPI standards, XPS, and SEM. The results indicate that the surface layers can be removed under suitable EB irradiation doses. Alcohol-benzene extraction and lignin content increases gradually with an increase in EB irradiation and reaching a maximum at an EB dose of 3kGy, and decreases at 10kGy. The surface chemical changes measured by XPS corresponded to the chemical composition analysis results. The C1 peak and the O/C ratio decreased with the removal of the multi-layer and primary layer by EB irradiation. The SEM images show the inter-fibrillar structure etched by EB irradiation up to 5kGy. At 10kGy, the surface structure of the ramie fiber shows highly aligned and distinctive striations in a longitudinal direction. The removal of these exterior layers of the fiber was confirmed by changes in surface morphology as observed in SEM images.
