A 2-stage MMIC(monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits) LNA(Low Noise Amplifiers) at 30GHz hand has been designed and fabricated for the Ka-band Satellite Communications. The $0.15 {\mu}m$ with the width of $80 {\mu}m$ pHEMT technology was used for the fabrication of this MMIC LNA. Using the series feedback technique, ultra low noise and excellent S11 could be obtained at the same time without the cost of gain at 30GHz-band. The stability factors(Ks) for each stage and overall stage are greater than 1 at full frequency bands by the bias circuits and stabilization circuit. The measured performances, which agree well with the predicted performances, show this 2-stage MMIC LNA has the gain of more than 15.7dB and noise figure of less than 2.09dB over 29GHz to 33GHz.

We perform an analysis of the characteristics of the time-reversal pulse in Rayleigh or Ricean fading channel environments. We verify it by using Monte Carlo simulation. In a time-reversal system, each antenna in the time-reversal array receives signals from the transmitter and reverse the received signal in the time axis and then resend it to the original transmitter. We assume that the channel characteristics varies very slowly and the spatial separation between the antennas is not large. Hence the signals received by each antenna are correlated. In this paper, the effect of the correlation on the time-reversed pulse is examined, which includes the spatial properties of the time-reversal pulse such as the focus size, and spatial power distribution.

The ability to predict radar return from flying vehicles becomes a critical technology issue in the development of stealth configurations. Toward developing a CEM code based on Maxwell's equations for analysis of RCS reduction schemes, an explicit upwind scheme suitable for multidisciplinary design is presented. The DFFT algorithm is utilized to convert the time-domain field values to the frequency-domain. A Green's function based on near field-to-far field transformation is also employed to calculate the bistatic RCS. To verify the numerical calculation the two-dimensional field around a perfectly conducting cylinder is considered. Finally results are obtained for the scattering electromagnetic field around an airfoil in order to illustrate the feasibility of applying CFD based methods to CEM.
We propose and present a new multiplexed bend loss type single-mode fiber-optic sensor system for displacement measurement in order to measure the displacement of several mm of civil engineering structures such as bridges and buildings. We make a bend loss type fiber-optic sensor for measuring displacements using the signal difference between two reflection signals due to various bend losses generating at a pair of optical connectors by using the optical time domain reflectometer. And we fabricate a multiplexed bend loss type fiber-optic sensor detecting linear displacements of 4 measuring positions of an object by setting these new 4 fiber-optic sensors on a single mode fiber simultaneously. We find that the multiplexed fiber-optics displacement sensor has linearity of 0.9942, maximum displacement of 6 mm, and accuracy of 6% for 4 measuring points.
A new sheet of back light unit(BLU) to reduce the number of sheets and enhance the optical performances of direct back light unit(BLU) in a liquid crystal display is proposed and designed. In order to improve the straightness and spatial uniformity of brightness of the BLU, we design the new sheet with linear arrays of complicated bar prism by using the fusion of cylindrical lens and bar prism. Then, we investigate and analyze various optical performances of a BLU including the new sheet through an illumination optical system design program. From these results, we determine the optimum geometrical structure of the sheet. Under the optimum condition, the luminance efficiency and spatial uniformity of luminance of the BLU are 53.5% and 83.5% respectively. And the vertical and horizontal widths of the angular luminance distribution are $90^{\circ}$ and $112.5^{\circ}$ respectively. Finally we have fabricated a new BLU sheet according to this design shape by using an ordinary resins.
We fabricate a measuring system to measure the modulation transfer function (MTF) of a mid-infrared imaging silicon lens by using the knife-edge scanning technique. In particular, we measure on-axial tangential MTF of the silicon lens with the focal length of 50 mm and F-number F/4 in the wavelength band of mid-infrared between $3\;{\mu}m$ and $5\;{\mu}m$. In order to obtain the infinite object, the off-axial parabolic reflector with the focal length of 2.545 m is utilized. In the comparison with measured MTF data and designed MTF values curve, we find that the tolerance of measured MTF data below the spatial frequency of 7 lp/mm is within 2%.
We develop a fiber optic acceleration sensor with LED, PD, POF, and a cantilever beam, having film grating at the edge of the beam. Light is transmitted from LED to PD through the film grating. When the cantilever beam moves by external vibration, output light is modulated as sinusoidal signals. The characteristics of output signals are dominated by the spacing of the film grating and also by the size and the elasticity of the beam. Two output signals, having constant initial phase difference, are obtained by two gratings with 90 degree phase difference. Those two signals are used to determine phase angle, which is proportional to the displacement of the beam. Finally, the acceleration is determined from conversion equation between displacement and acceleration. This sensor is designed for monitoring the vibration of large and complex building in the low frequency range of below 7 Hz, and is particularly suitable to measure acceleration in electromagnetic environments.
Power and signal transmission using electromagnetic waves are essential in modern times, and a guided structure is needed to transmit electromagnetic waves efficiently through the desired path. This paper performed an electromagnetic simulation using the in-house code for the 2-D/3-D waveguide using the finite element method. The accuracy of the analysis was verified by comparing it with the results of HFSS, a representative electromagnetic wave simulation software. In addition, the performance of the Absorbing Boundary Condition (ABC), which is essential to truncate the infinite computational domain for computational electromagnetics, was analyzed. Finally, the parallelization technique was applied to accelerate the simulation speed, demonstrating performance improvement.

This paper proposes an efficient reliability-based optimization method for designing a superconducting magnetic energy system in presence of uncertainty. To evaluate the probability of failure of constraints, samplingbased reliability analysis method is employed, where Monte Carlo simulation is incorporated into dynamic Kriging models. Its main feature is to drastically reduce the numbers of iterative designs and computer simulations during the optimization process without sacrificing the accuracy of reliability analysis. Through comparison with existing methods, the validity of the proposed method is examined with the TEAM Workshop Problem 22.
This paper proposes an indirect fault detection method for an onboard degaussing coil system, installed to reduce the underwater magnetic field from the ferromagnetic hull. The method utilizes underwater field signals measured at specific magnetic treatment facilities instead of using time-consuming numerical field solutions in a three-dimensional space. An equivalent magnetic charge model combined with a material sensitivity formula is adopted to predict fault coil locations. The purpose of the proposed method is to yield reliable data on the location and type of a coil breakdown even without information on individual degaussing coils, such as dimension, location and number of turns. Under several fault conditions, the method is tested with a model ship equipped with 20 degaussing coils.
