  • This paper proposes a gain scheduled control technique using time-delay for the nonlinear system with plant uncertainties and unexpected disturbances. The time delay-based gain scheduled control depends on a direct estimation of a function representing the effect of uncertainties. The information from the estimation is used to cancel the unknown dynamics and the unexpected disturbances simultaneously. The proposed estimation scheme with a finite convergence time is formulated in order to estimate the unknown scheduling variable variation. In other words, the time delay-based gain scheduled control uses the past observation of the system's response and the control input to directly modify the control actions rather than to adjust the controller gains or to identify system parameters. It has a simple structure so as to minimize the computational burden. The benefits of this proposed scheme are demonstrated in the simulation of an electromagnetic suspension system with plant uncertainties and external disturbances, and the proposed controller is compared with the conventional state feedback controller.

  • In this paper we describe the maximum energy transfer of CSA(Capacitive Switching Antenna). CSA which is radiated antenna system contain energy storage and switch, antenna needs to high voltage source for electrical field radiation experiment. In this experiment we employed Marx generator as a charging source. CSA can radiate electrical field more efficiently by varying antenna capacitance. The electromagnetic generation system which was using CSA has some advantages which are more simple and more effective compared to exist system. We evaluated the performance of electromagnetic wave generating system using CSA. As a result UWB gain of system is 0.47, It is higher level than exist system is 0.3. Radiated electrical field strength at 1m is 70kV/m. It is measured by D-dot sensor and gap distance is 20mm. Center frequency of CSA is approximately 25MHz. When vary the antenna gap distance from 50mm to 20mm, we can find the radiation field strength is decrease and antenna center frequency is increased. We also simulated the energy transfer efficiency to compare with experiment result. Consequentially, CSA needs to appropriate capacitance which is similar value from marx generator for maximum energy transfer, and gap is less than 1mm to increase the CSA capacitance.

  • Energy harvesting in trams may become a prevalent source of passive energy generation due to the high density of vibrational energy, and this may help power structural health monitoring systems for the trams. This paper presents a broadband vibrational energy harvesting device design that utilizes a varied frequency from a tram vehicle using a 2 DOF vibrational system combined with electromagnetic energy conversion. This paper will demonstrate stepwise optimization processes to determine mechanical parameters for frequency tuning to adjust to the trams' operational conditions, and electromagnetic parameters for the whole system design to maximize power output. The initial optimization will determine 5 important design parameters in a 2 DOF vibrational system, namely the masses (m1, m2 (and spring constants (k1, k2, k3). The second step will use these parameters as initial guesses for the second optimization which will maintain the ratios of these parameters and present electrical parameters to maximize the power output from this system. The obtained values indicated a successful demonstration of design optimization as the average power generated increased from 1.475 mW to 17.44 mW (around 12 times).

  • The main purpose of this article is a complex hyperthermia applicator system design for treatment of head and neck region. The applicator system is composed of four waveguides with a stripline horn aperture and circular water bolus. The specific absorption rate (SAR) and temperature distribution from this applicator in various numerical phantom models was investigated. For used targets, the treatment planning based on the optimization process made through the SEMCAD X software is added to show the steering possibilities of SAR and thereby temperature distribution. Using treatment planning software, we proved that the SAR and temperature distribution can be effectively controlled (by amplitude and phase changing) improving the SAR and temperature target coverage approximately by 20 %. For the proposed applicator system analysis and quantitative evaluation of two parameters 25 % iso-SAR and $41^{\circ}C$ iso-temperature contours in the treatment area with the respect to sensitive structures in treatment area were defined. To verify our simulation results, the real measurement of reflectivity coefficient as well as the temperature distribution in a homogenous phantom were performed.

  • Test results of electromagnetic suspension (EMS) type urban transit maglev system are reported. Electromagnetic levitation system is a transportation system taking advantage of the attraction of normal conducting electromagnets to support and guide the train in combination with the linear induction traction motors. Urban Transit Maglev (UTM) Which is being developed by the maglev team in KIMM and the Hyundai Precision Company since 1995 consists of three bogies. In the first year, two types of Bogies are developed. Bogie I uses an analog controller for levitation and guidance control and is driven by two linear induction motors (LIM) mounted on the right and left side of module. Bogie II uses a digital controller and is driven by one LIM mounted along the center line of the bogie. Test results reported in this paper are those obtained with Bogie II with a digital controller. Also included in this paper is a brief explanation of the electromagnetic suspension levitation system which is being developed by the maglev team in KIMM.

  • In this paper, the analysis model of a composite electromagnetic interference environment is proposed, and the composite interference consists of three types, i.e., impulse, sinusoidal, and rectangular type. Also, we have derived the p.d.f of the amplitude of the composite interference. And using a derived p.d.f, we have evaluated the performance of 16QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) system in a composite electromagnetic interference environment. From the results, it is known that when impulse type interference is weaker than the others, the shape of p.d.f is dominantly governed by the power component ratio of sinusoidal and rectangular type interference. On the other hand, when impulse type interference is stronger, the effect of the other two interference becomes insignificant. Also, It is shown that the smaller both impulsive index (A) and the mean power component ratio ($\Gamma$') in impulse type interference are, the worse the performance of 16QAM system is.

  • Due to the rapid growth of mobile communication services, many studies have been performed on the biological effects of EMF(Electromagnetic field) exposure. However, it is not easy to create the field uniformity in radio frequency. To overcome this difficulty, the electric field and SAR(Specific Absorption Rate) distribution is developed to measure the whole body exposure system. In this paper, we developed the whole body exposure system for in-vivo study utilizing reverberation chamber which has a high possibility of practical use by substituting previous the EMC chamber. The field uniformity in the test area of the designed reverberation chamber was satisfied by the simulation and measurement data. In animal study of the whole body exposure for a mouse, the results of FDTD simulation were compared with those of measurement to confirm SAR under the electromagnetic exposure. We analyze the electric field distribution in the interior of the reverberation chamber and treat these results in statistical manner. In the CDMA frequency band(PCS & Cellular band), an average value of the whole body SAR and local peak value for a experimental mouse were presented for various input power.

  • Electromagnetic valve (EMV) actuation system is a new technology for improving fuel efficiency and at the same time reducing omissions in internal combustion engines. It can provide more flexibility in valve event control compared with conventional variable valve actuation devices. The electromagnetic valve actuator must be designed by taking the operating conditions and engine geometry limits of the internal combustion engine into account. To help develop a simple design method, this paper presents a procedure for determine the basic design parameters and dimensions of the actuator from the relations of the valve dynamics, electromagnetic circuit and thermal loading condition based on the lumped method. To verify the accuracy of the lumped method analysis, experimental study is also carried out on a prototype actuator. It is found that there is a relatively good agreement between the experimental data and the results of the proposed design procedure. Through the whole speed range, the actuator maintains proper performances in valve timing and event control.

  • An equivalent model has been developed to estimate the electromagnetic immunity for integrated circuits under a complex electromagnetic environment. The complete model is based on the characteristics of the equipment and physical configuration of the device under test (DUT) and describes the measurement setup as well as the target integrated circuits under test, the corresponding package, and a specially designed printed circuit board. The advantage of the proposed model is that it can be applied to a SPICE-like simulator and the immunity of the integrated circuits can be easily achieved without costly and time-consuming measurements. After simulation, measurements were performed to verify the accuracy of the equivalent model for immunity prediction. The improvement of measurement accuracy due to the added effect of a bi-directional coupler in the test setup is also addressed.

  • The electromagnetic parameters of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) such as the open load permanent magnet flux, d axis reactance $X_d$, and q axis reactance $X_q$, are most essential to the performance analysis and optimization design of the motor. Based on the numerical analysis of the 3D electromagnetic field, the three electromagnetic parameters of permanent magnet synchronous motors with U form interior rotor structures are calculated by FEA. The rules of the leakage coefficient and reactance parameters changing with the air gap length, permanent magnet magnetism length, and isolation magnetic bridge dimensions in the rotor are given. The calculated values agree well with the measured values. The FEA results are integrated with the self compiled electromagnetic design program to optimize the prototype motor. The tested performances of the prototype motor prove that the method is suitable for the optimization of motor structure.
