Loop-loop electromagnetic (EM) survey in frequency domain has been carried out in order to provide basic solution to geotechnical applications. Source and receiver configuration may be horizontal co-planar (HCP) and/or vertical co-planar (VCP). Three quadrature components of mutual impedance ratio for each configuration are used to construct the subsurface image. For the purpose of obtaining the model response and validating the reasonable performance of the inversion, we obtained each responses of two-layered and three-layered earth models and two-dimensional (2-D) isolated anomalous body. The response of 2-D isolated anomalous body has been calculated using extended Born approximation for the solution of 2.5-D integral equation describing EM scattering problem. As a result of the least-squares inversion with variable Lagrangian multiplier, we could construct more resolvable image from HCP data than VCP data. Furthermore, joint inversion of HCP and VCP data made better stability and resolution of the inversion. Resistivity values, however, did not exactly match the true ones. Loop-loop EM field data was obtained with EM34-3XL system manufactured by Geonics Ltd. (Canada). Electrical resistivity survey was conducted on the same line for the comparison in advance. Since the constructed image from loop-loop EM data by 2-D inversion algorithm showed almost similar resistivity distribution to that from electrical resistivity one, we expect the developed 2.5-D loop-loop EM inversion program can be applied for the reconnaissance site survey.

In these days, many kinds of goods are more light and more integrated. As frequency range of mobile applications have increased to improve performance of antenna furthermore, EMI(ElectroMagnetic Interference) problem has frequently caused by disturbance of antenna in device which aggravates other circuit. This paper proposes a technique for the prediction of noise power to the transmission line from antenna located near the line. Although noise power transferred to transmission line is varied by source impedance of antenna and load impedance of transmission line basically, the power magnitude can be presented in a square form of S-parameter between antenna and transmission line due to small variation of transferred power. For this reason, we can use the index expressed the transferred power varied along geometrical shapes of transmission line. As a result, big difference is occurred along location of antenna especially the bended line. And this such experiment is correspond with simulation, these results have meaning physically considering electromagnetic field distribution in near and far field. HFSS of Ansys and CPW with ground is used in this paper.

In a long-span bridge, the cables are important elements that support the load of the bridge. Accordingly, the cable tension is a very important variable in evaluating the health and safety of the bridge. The most popular methods of estimating the cable tensions are the direct method, which directly measures the cable stresses using load cells, hydraulic jacking devices, etc., and the vibration method, which inverses the tensions using the cable shapes and the measured dynamic characteristics. Studies on the use of the electromagnetic (EM) sensor, which detects the magnetic field variations caused by the change in the stress of the steel in the cable, are increasing. In this study, the lift-off test, the EM sensor, and the vibration method (Vision-based System and Accelerometer) were used to measure cable tension, and their results were compared and analyzed.

Power utilities must satisfy both supplying high quality power economically and reducing EMF levels. In general, in order to reduce EMF levels from transmission line, it is effective to install shielding wires, configure wires with minimal space or modify structure of other conductors, etc., but these techniques require much cost and time. To some extent, the EMF levels associated with critical transmission lines can be reduced by redistributing the scheduled power generation, since it can change the power flows. There this technique can be readily applied without modifying other structures. This paper considers the OPF(Optimal Power Flow) with the EMF constraints in transmission lines to determine the power generation redistributions and demonstrates numerically the effectiveness of the approach.

Recently, as many functional blocks are integrated on a small area the high speed integrated circuits emerge as a critical electromagnetic interferer which causes mal-function of adjacent circuitries and lowers the sensitivity of the wireless receivers. Therefore, it is necessary to devise an precise analyzing tool to pinpoint the major electromagnetic noise contributor among the internal circuit blocks of high speed IC's. This paper presents the design, fabrication, and measurement results of the high resolution magnetic field probe which can measure the current density on the IC surface. In order to achieve the high resolution, the magnetic field probe is fabricated using 3-metal semiconductor process so that its thickness is reduced by 10% than that of conventional works. Through the magnetostatic analysis and EM simulation, spatial resolution and sensitivity to the nonmagnetic field components are analyzed. Experimentally, it is found that the fabricated probe can measure the current density on the IC surface with $210{\mu}m$-spatial-resolution.

In this paper, we propose a Cassegrain antenna with a scalar feed horn opt rating in Ka-band. For an effective EM simulation of the Cassegrain antenna, the near-field of the feed hone is used ai the equivalent source of the Cassegrain antenna using the surface equivalent theorem. A corrugated circular horn operating with $HE_{11}$ mode is used as the feed horn. The angle and feed center of the main and sub reflectors are optimized to achieve maximum antenna efficiency. The designed feed horn shows the gain of 19dBi, the side-lobe level of less than -25dB and the half power beam width of $20^{\circ}$ at 33 GHz. The Cassegrain antenna shows the gain of 41dBi, the efficiency of 60%, the side-lobe level of less than -20dB and the half power beam width of $1.2^{\circ}$.
The small-loop electromagnetic (EM) technique has been used successfully for many geophysical investigations, particularly for shallow engineering and environmental surveys. In conventional small loop EM operating at small induction numbers, geometric sounding has been widely used because the depth of penetration of EM energy depends only on the source-receiver separation. Recently developed small loop EM system, however, measures the secondary magnetic field, $H^S$, at multiple frequencies with a fixed source-receiver separation and frequency sounding is tried actively. In this study, we analyzed the behavior of in-phase and quadrature components of ${H^S}_z$, for horizonal coplanar (HCP) configuration over two-layer models. Through this theoretical analysis, it was found that the in-phase component of ${H^S}_z$ is more suitable for frequency sounding than the quadrature component. But, the in-phase component of ${H^S}_z$ is too small to measure, especially in resistive and noisy environment like Korea. Using the fact that the quadrature component is much greater than the in-phase component and the difference of quadrature component of ${H^S}_z$ measured at two frequencies shows the same behavoir as the in-phase component, we suggested an alternative frequency sounding technique. Also, we defined an apparent conductivity, which reflects well the conductivity of subsurface layers.

In this paper, the design of a new bandpass filter based on the modified circular mushroom metamaterial structure is proposed. In detail, half circular mushroom cells are used as the zeroth order resonators(ZOR), and an intermediate gap is adopted to introduce the coupling between neighboring ZOR resonators. The proposed bandpass filter design is validated by the circuit and 3D EM simulations and measurements compared to the target specifications, and the metamaterial properties are proved by the ZOR field distributions and dispersion diagram. Also, the effect of size reduction is addressed.

The distribution of the space debris caused by any source affects the DBS & FSS wave propagation for satellite communication. In this paper, the normalized expansion coefficients are evaluated with varying the volume distribution density of space debris and the operating frequency, and then the attenuation and phase shift are calculated by using the normalized expansion coefficients. Conclusively, the attenuation and phase shift are mostly affected with the real and imaginary part of the amplitude function, respectively, which represented by electric field component of the Bessel function. The results of this paper adapted for the design of the link budget for satellite communication system and the reconsideration of space environment as the space debris increses by geometric progression.

In this paper, a method of designing a Vivaldi type phased array antenna (PAA) which operates at S-band (2.8-3.3 GHz) is presented. The presented antenna uses broadside coupled split ring resonators (BC-SRRs) for high isolation, wide field of view, and good active S-parameter characteristics. As an example, we design a $1{\times}8$ array antenna with various BC-SRR structures using theory and EM simulations. The antenna is fabricated and measured to verify the design. With the BC-SRR implemented between the two radiating elements, the isolation is shown to be enhanced by 6 dB, up to 23 dB. The scan angle is shown to be within ${\pm}53^{\circ}$ based on a -10 dB active reflection coefficient. The operation of the scan angle is possible within ${\pm}60^{\circ}$ with a little larger reflection coefficient (-7 dB to -8 dB). The proposed design with BC-SRRs is expected to be useful for PAA applications.
