  • A finite element analysis is used in this study to model 6 kinds of electrode by a genetic program in order to evaluate the mechanical effect on the 3D human cochlea model and the behavior of electrode. Human cochlea is modeled by the spiral-approximation method and the shape of scala tympani is extracted from the mid section of the human cochlea. Contact pressure at the tip and the insertion force are found to be highest when the wires stack horizontally. Axial rotation of electrode is minimal comparing with the stimulating current spread. The results indicate that the electrode stiffness is important to minimize the trauma.

  • As a display becomes large recently, Acquisition of high luminance and Luminance uniformity is becoming difficult in the existing CCFL or EEFL backlight system. So, study for a performance enhancement has enforced. but lamp development of flat type is asked for high luminance and a luminance uniformity security in of LCD and area anger trend ultimately. In this paper, we changed a tip shape of an electrode for production by the most suitable LCD backlight surface light source, and confirmed discharge characteristic along discharge gas pressure and voltage, and confirmed electric field distribution and discharge energy characteristic through a Maxwell 2D simulation. Therefore the discharge firing voltage characteristic showed a low characteristic than a rectangular type and round type in case of electrode which used tip of a triangle type, and displayed a discharge electric current as a same voltage was low.

  • The Weldability of gavannealed steel using spot welder has been studied. The Results obtained are a follows; 1) Welds size and strength were increased depending on the welding time and welding current. But, the increasing rate has been decreased. 2) Deposited zinc has affected on the wear of welding tips and growth of welds but has not affected the weld's structures. 3) On shear testing of the specimen, button fracture has been observed and the value was approximately 540Kg (welds dia. approximately .phi.4mm)

  • In this research, microfabrication technique using localized electrochemical deposition is presented. Electric field is localized near the tip end region by applying ultra short pulses. Platinum tip is used as the counter electrode and copper is deposited on the copper substrate in 0.5 M CuSO$_4$ and 0.5 M H$_2$SO$_4$ electrolyte. The deposition characteristics such as size, shape, and structural density according to pulse duration and applied voltage are investigated. Micro-columns less than 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter are fabricated using the presented technique. The process can be potentially used for three dimensional metal structure fabrications with micrometer feature size.

  • In this paper, micro structuring technique using localized electrochemical deposition (LECD) with ultra short pulses was investigated. Electric field in electrochemical cell was localized near the tool tip end region by applying pulses of a few hundreds of nano second duration, Pt-Ir tip was used as a counter electrode and copper was deposited on the copper substrate in mixed electrolyte of 0.5 M $CuSO_4$ and 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$, The effectiveness of this technique was verified by comparison with ECD using DC voltage. The deposition characteristics such as size, shape, surface, and structural density according to applied voltage and pulse duration were investigated. The proper condition was selected based on the results of the various experiments. Micro columns less than $10{\mu}m$ in diameter were fabricated using this technique. The real 3D micro structures such as micro spring and micro pattern were made by the presented method.

  • The effects of aromatic curing agent of MDA contents and post curing conditions on dielectric deterioration characteristics of DGEBA/MDA/SN system were investigated. The dielectric properties were measured by using needle-plane electrode geometry under the commercial AC high electric field application. As the curing agent content increased, the dielectric breakdown strength increased and then decreased slightly. All the trees initiated from the tip of needle electrode and the shape of the tree in this system was a dendrite type.

  • In this paper, we present a finger tip tactile sensor which can detect contact normal force as well as slip. The sensor is made up of two different materials, such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) known as piezoelectric polymer, and pressure variable resistor ink. In order to detect slip on the surface of the object, two PVDF strips are arranged along the normal direction in the robot finger tip and the thumb tip. The surface electrode of the PVDF strip is fabricated using silk-screening technique with silver paste. Also a thin flexible force sensor is fabricated in the form of a matrix using pressure variable resistor ink in order to sense the static force. The developed tactile sensor is physically flexible and it can be deformed three-dimensionally to any shape so that it can be placed on anywhere on the curved surface. In addition, a tactile sensing system is developed, which includes miniaturized charge amplifier to amplify the small signal from the sensor, and the fast signal processing unit. The sensor system is evaluated experimentally and its effectiveness is validated.

  • A microgripper driven by E-T (electro-thermal) actuators has been designed and fabricated by surface micromachining. This microgripper consists of two E-T actuators. Each actuator has two arms with different widths joined at the end to form a 'U' shape. The wider 'cold' arm has a narrow flexure at the end (anchor or electrode side) for easy bending, This actuator can be fabricated with only two masks - one for the sacrificial layer and the other for the poly-Si structure layer. An E-T actuator bends its arm due to unequal thermal expansion between the 'cold' arm and the 'hot' arm, This actuator tip moves laterally in an arcing motion towards the cold arm side when the structure is unevenly heated by the applied current. Therefore each microgripper is actuated inwards and can hold a micro object. The fabricated E-T actuator was operated in the range of $2{\sim}12V$ and $1{\sim}5mA$. and maximum tip displacement was $13.6{\mu}m$. This device may become useful in many applications because an E-T actuator can be designed and fabricated easily, and obtain large displacement.
