Development of EMTDC Model for Electrified Railroad Supply System (전철 급전계통의 EMTDC 모델개발)

  • This paper presents the first Simulation model using EMTDC program to analyze the electrified train voltage distribution characteristics in ac auto-transformer 1110 railroads. In general, all of the electrified train supply system has the characteristics that the train supply line is a naturally non-symmetrical and unbalanced system. Also, it is needed to model the Scott transformer which invert the balanced 3-phase quantity into 2-phase. Therefore, the general simulation methodology using previous simplified equivalent circuit or RMS based program can't obtain the accurate results to reflect the real-time operation because these methodology is basically assumed on completely 3-phase balanced system. To overcome these defects, in this paper, the EMTDC simulation model to analysis the completely electrified railroad system with Scott transformer and AC auto-transformer is presented. Also, the correctness of EMTDC modeling is confirmed by the old basic concepts and we think that this EMTDC model has the future powerful capability for application of railroad system analysis.

  • This study presents a simulation of the traction return current based on $2{\times}25kV$ power supply system in order to determine the impedance bond intensity of impulse type track circuit on the electrified Gyeongbu line. The results of the simulation enables us to measure the precise intensity of catenary current that returns to the substation through KTX (Korean Train Express) operated by $2{\times}25kV$ power supply system with common earth network. The combination of $2{\times}25kV$ and common earth network established on the electrified Gyeongbu line for the first time in Korea.   • This study analyzed changes of train operation between Seoul~Cheonan after the introduction of new electrified rail in 2005. As expected number of passengers were reduced at specific service section and several railroad stations which were served by the Mugunghwa. Also, the statistic shows that passenter demand concentrated in a specific time, so train service frequency and level of service need to be modified to meet with changed demand pattern. The purpose of this paper is to identify critical demand pattern, especially, in several section of the railroad system. This studies provide a railroad transportation system that is significantly more efficient, with far greater capacity, by providing solutions to the problems of congestion impact.

  • The power flow analysis of electrified railway is required complicated calculation, because of variable load. Train runs trough rail supplied by electric power therefore, the load value in electrified railway system fluctuates along time. The power flow algorithm in electrified railway system is different from general power system, and the power flow simulation is peformed by the particular simulation software. Powerail is simulation software for analysis of traction power supply system developed by KRRI, in 2008. This consists of load forecasting module, including TPS and time scheduling, and power flow module. This software was verified by measured current under normal feeding condition, however, has not been verified by voltage on the condition of extended feeding. This paper presents the verification of PowerRail based on voltage drop under extended feeding condition. This is performed by comparing simulation result with field test. Field test and simulation is done in commercial railway line.

  • Recently, the load increasement and regenerative system of electrified railway system make a difficult to distinguish between the load current and fault current and it need a new intelligent protection system. In this paper, we proposed intelligent algorithm for discriminating normal and abnormal situation instead of the system being operated abnormally.

  • This Paper presents circuit model of catenery in electrified railway system. Most of (a.c.)electrified railway system adopted as AT fed power supply system. This system is fed with twice voltage. It is that AT system can be fed through longer distance. Conventional circuit model of catenary is used T equivalent circuit with lumped parameter.   • This paper presents capability calculation methods for regenerative inverter in DC electrified transit system. The proposed method uses a train performance and power simulation tool to calculate the regenerative power generated in the DC substation and decide the capability of regenerative inverter. The capability of regenerative inverters for Seoul subway line 5, 6, 7, and 8 has been calculated.
