The Evaluation of Energy Saving using Ultrathin Heat Insulation in Railway Electrification Substation (철도전기실의 초박형 액체단열재 적용을 통한 에너지 절감효과)

  • In this paper, because of global environmental problems such as energy shortage and abnormal climate, green energy development and energy saving technology development is being magnified. Heat insulation, the most basic and traditional energy saving method, is highly expected. Especially, simple and advanced heat insulation technique based on Nano material is promising future technology. The railway system also requires heat insulation. Especially, traditional heat insulator such as glass wool has been adopted frequently to rolling stock. The heat insulator is also adopted in general railway service buildings. Take account of cost-effective heat blocking performance, the heat insulator shall be adopted in diverse fields such as electric power, railroad, signal and communication. The only and direct solution for this problem is installing heat insulator with outstanding endurance, corrosion resistance and heat resistance to block outer heat Upgrading heat specification of equipment can be a solution, but since price and maintenance cost rise severely, this plan might be incongruous. In this research, energy saving effect of ultrathin heat insulator film was demonstrated by installing the film on roof of electrical room.

Synthesis and Evaluation of Superhydrophobic ODA/PDMS Dip Coating on PET for Liquid-Solid Contact Electrification (액체-고체 접촉대전을 위한 PET 기판 기반 ODA/PDMS 딥 코팅 제조 및 평가)

  • As opposed to using fossil fuels, we need to use eco-friendly resources such as sunlight, raindrops and wind to produce electricity and combat environmental pollution. A triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is a device that converts mechanical energy into electricity by inducing repetitive contact and separation of two dissimilar materials. During the contact and separation processes, electron flow occurs owing to a change in electric potential of the contacting surface caused by contact electrification and electrostatic induction mechanisms. A solid-solid contact TENG is widely known, but it is possible to generate electricity via liquid-solid contact. Therefore, by designing a hydrophobic TENG, we can gather electricity from raindrop energy in a feasible manner. To fabricate the superhydrophobic surface of TENGs, we employ a dip coating technique to synthesize an octadecylamine (ODA)- and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based coating on polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The synthesized coating exhibits superhydrophobicity with a contact angle greater than 150° and generates a current of 2.2 ㎂/L while water droplets fall onto it continuously. Hence, we prepare a box-type TENG, with the ODA/PDMS coating deposited on the inside, and place a 1.5 mL water droplet into it. Resultantly, we confirm that the induced vibration causes continuous impacts between the ODA/PDMS coating and the water, generating approximately 100 pA for each impact.

Studies on Electrostatic Propensity of Fabrics (직물대전성에 관한 연구)

  • This studies has been carried out how to effect on electrostafic propensity of synthetic fabrics by coating with 0.5% acrylic polymer solution which was previously developed by the author to improve anticrease nature of silk. The work conditions are: (A) Applied synthetic polymer was acrylic polymer 525, developed by the author. (B) Electrostatic voltage for various fabrics were carried out by Korea standard abrasion partner with Korea standard (KS K 0905) cotton, nylon, polyester and the self sample fabric. (C) Applied fabrics for the investigations were carried out by using abrasion partner with Korea standard (KS K 0905) cotton, nylon, polyester and the self sample fabric. (D) Electrostatic propensity investigations were carried out by use of sample as silk, nylon, polyester and acrylic fabrics, seperating before finish or after finish. (E) Washing after the finish or the original fabric was carried out by Korea standard method, KS K 0465. Through the investigations, he happened to find many interesting matters and the obtained results are as followings. 1. Electrostatic voltage for the finished fabrics increased more than their original silk, nylon, acrylic fabrics except polyester fabric. (See Table 5) 2. Electrostatic voltage for the finished polyester against K.S. polyester decreased remarkably than the original fabric test. 3. In spite of no problem on electrostatic propensity of silk, it showed high electrostatic voltage between the same nature fabric abrasion, because silk is very weak against abrasion and because the test method had been developed to be useful for only synthetic fabrics. 4. Electrostatic voltage increased more in case of abrasion between different nature of fabrics than the same nature of fabrics. 5. Electrostatic voltage of each fabric increased by repeat of wash. 6. Many investigation data were followed with Contact Electrification Series Principle, another word, the farther each other located fabric on the series abrasion was, the higher electrostatic voltage. (See Fig. 6) 7. Such investigation gives warning of use on the mix fiber spinning service as far as concern with electrification. 8. It may also call attention for such increase of electrification in case any finishing of silk textile.

  • As the scope of use of portable and wearable electronic devices is expanding, the limitations of heavy and bulky solid-state batteries are being revealed. Given that, it is urgent to develop a small energy harvesting device that can partially share the role of a battery and the utilization of energy sources that are thrown away in daily life is becoming more important. Contact electrification, which generates electricity based on the coupling of the triboelectric effect and electrical induction when the two material surfaces are in contact and separated, can effectively harvest the physical and mechanical energy sources existing in the surrounding environment without going through a complicated intermediate process. Recently, the interest in the harvest and utilization of wind energy is growing since the wind is an infinitely ecofriendly energy source among the various environmental energy sources that exist in human surroundings. In this study, the optimization of the energy harvesting device for the effective harvest of wind energy based on the contact electrification was analyzed and then, the utilization strategy to maximize the utilization of the generated electricity was investigated. Natural wind based Fluttering TENG (NF-TENG) using fluttering film was developed, and design optimization was conducted. Moreover, the safe high voltage generation system was developed and a plan for application in the field requiring high voltage was proposed by highlighting the unique characteristics of TENG that generates low current and high voltage. In this respect, the result of this study demonstrates that a portable energy harvesting device based on the contact electrification shows great potential as a strategy to harvest wind energy thrown away in daily life and use it widely in fields requiring high voltage.

  • The railway industry has well developed with Korea's economic growth as follows - Industrial railway's electrification in 1973, Seoul subway opening in 1974, Busan subway opening in 1985, High speed railway opening in 2004. But LRT as city transportation means has been faced with many difficulties. Looking at the LRT projects implemented until now, there are some issues like the transportation demand, the quality & safety of RS and facilities, the poor management of inhabitant complaints and the failure to maintain policy coherence. They have caused not only the project schedule to extend but also the project costs to increase, even to obstruct the project progress itself in some cases. These risk factors become the obstacle of LRT project's success, but it is said that more basic problem is the lack of risk management capability of competent authorities in railway business. Under these circumstance, Railway specialized Authorities and Local government have cooperated to identify various risk factors and to prepare the measures in advance, so we try to introduce this cooperation case, which will help other local government as an useful reference.

  • The railway safety in Koreaisthreatenedduetotherestructuring of the railway industries, introduction of the Korea Train eXpress (KTX) and electrification of the conventional lines. Many technical backgrounds are required to control railway accidents as low as reasonably practicable, such as a railway safety act, safety standards, and safety assessment infrastructures. Korean government and the Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) are conducting an integrated R&D program for improvement of the railway safety, where the target is to reduce the accident fatalities by half. The program is composed of three parts; the safety system engineering and the program management, the establishment of a safety management system, and the development of techniques for assessing and preventing major railway accidents. Details of the research programs are explained in this paper, where risk is used as the major control measure.

  • The substation automation is a system to remote-monitor and control electric power flow. And in line with electrification of railway, an interest in electric railway substation automation is increasing. IEC standardized IEC 61850, IEC 61968 and IEC 61970 communication protocol for the telecommunication standardization of the electric power automation industry. The recent SCADA systems in managed electric railway substations are have the problem about the compatibility with the products which fit to the international standard specification afterward. In this paper, the model of electric railway substation automation based on IEC 61850 and IEC 61970 is presented. And the method supporting the compatibility between the equipment is proposed.

  • A triboelectric generator uses the principles of static electrification and electrostatic induction to convert mechanical energy into useful electrical energy. In this work we study a single degree of freedom (SDOF) vibration type triboelectric generator that is initiated by a vibrating source at its base. The system is modeled in Abaqus and the design parameters are systematically explored by their effect on the output. The relationships between the parameters: input force, input frequency, mass, spring stiffness and gap between the plates, are analyzed. Finally, based on initial experiments, and simulation results, a design methodology is formulated. The methodology will provide guidance for application specific design of reliable and effective vibration type triboelectric generators.

  • In recent years, ISG (Integrated Starter and Generator) system receives a great attention for electric electrification of normal gasoline vehicle. As a cost-effect machine design, an ISG without a permanent magnet is considered. A 12slot-10pole field-excitation flux-switching synchronous machine (FEFSSM) is designed and analyzed via JMAG. The active parts such as the field excitation coil and armature coil are located on the stator. The rotor part consisting of single piece iron makes it more robust and suitable to apply for high speed motor drive system application coupled with reduction belt. The design target is the motor with a maximum torque of 40Nm, a maximum power of 10kW and a maximum speed of 14000 rpm. In this paper, design optimization method is proposed for high torque capability.

  • 본 논문은 기중 코로나 방전에 의하여 생성된 캐리어를 Teflon-FEP 표면에 균일하게 공급하였을 때 Teflon-FEP를 통하여 흐르는 코로나 대전전류 특성에 대하여 연구하였다. 불소를 함유한 Teflon-FEP는 코로나 대전전류에 극성효과가 현저히 나타난다. 즉 정극성 캐리어는 벌크내를 쉽게 이동하나 부극성 캐리어는 안정하게 trap되어 벌크내를 이동하기 어렵기 때문에 부극성 코로나 대전전류 보다 정극성 코로나 대전전류가 크게 흐름을 알았다. 이와같이 극성효과가 나타나는 것은 Teflon-FEP가 전자 친화력이 있는 불소를 함유하고 있기 때문임을 제시하였다. 이러한 사실은 Polysulfone(PSF), High density Polyethylene(HDPE) 및 Polythylene Terephtarate(PET)의 코로나 대전전류 특성으로부터 확인할 수 있었다.
