Synthesis and Characteristics of CU/CUO Nanopowders by Pulsed Wire Evaporativn(PWE) Method (전기폭발법에 의한 CU/CUO 나노분말의 제조 및 분말특성)

  • Both Cu and Cu-oxide nanopowders have great potential as conductive paste, solid lubricant, effective catalysts and super conducting materials because of their unique properties compared with those of commercial micro-sized ones. In this study, Cu and Cu-oxide nanopowders were prepared by Pulsed Wire Evaporation (PWE) method which has been very useful for producing nanometer-sized metal, alloy and ceramic powders. In this process, the metal wire is explosively converted into ultrafine particles under high electric pulse current (between $10^4$ and $10^{ 6}$ $A/mm^2$) within a micro second time. To prevent full oxidations of Cu powder, the surface of powder has been slightly passivated with thin CuO layer. X-ray diffraction analysis has shown that pure Cu nanopowders were obtained at $N_2$ atmosphere. As the oxygen partial pressure increased in $N_2$ atmosphere, the gradual phase transformation occurred from Cu to $Cu_2$O and finally CuO nanopowders. The spherical Cu nanopowders had a uniform size distribution of about 100nm in diameter. The Cu-oxide nanopowders were less than 70nm with sphere-like shape and their mean particle size was 54nm. Smaller size of Cu-oxide nanopowders compared with that of the Cu nanopowders results from the secondary explosion of Cu nanopowders at oxygen atmosphere. Thin passivated oxygen layer on the Cu surface has been proved by XPS and HRPD.

  • This paper describes the detection method of wire-like obstacles using millimeter-wave radar system. Passive sensor like CCD camera can be used for the detection of high power electric cables on the hills or mountains and it can give very good quality of obstacle target information. But this system is very limited to use by bad weather condition. The detection capability for different diameters of wire targets using millimeter radar system have been accomplished. To simulate the target on the moving helicopter, rotating targets are used with fixed radar system. In the experiment 11mm, 16mm and 22mm diameter of wires have been detected in single, two and three wires in one position. The detected signal from single wire was very clear on gray level image. Three wires placed very closely together could be recognized in range, cross range image plane. For two and three wires, blur effect due to mutual scattering effect is observed.

  • We propose an optical-based measuring instrument of catenary system in electric railway. This system was made to utilize line scan camera as inspecting system to measure the stagger and height of overhead contact wire in railway and composed with optical type source and FPGA-based image acquisition system with PCI slot. Vision acquisition software has been used for the application to programming interface for image acquisition, display, and storage with a frequency of sampling. The proposed optical-based measuring instrument to measure the contact wire geometry shows promising on-field applications for online condition motoring. Also, this system can be applied to measure the hight and stagger or other geometry of different type of overhead catenary system.

  • The automotive industry and academic research have been continuously conducting research on standardization such as AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) and ISO26262 to solve problems such as safety and efficiency caused by the complexity of electric/electronic architecture of automotive. AUTOSAR is an automotive standard software platform that has a layered structure independent of MCU (Micro Controller Unit) hardware, and improves product reliability through software modularity and reusability. And, ISO26262, an international standard for automotive functional safety and suggests a method to minimize errors in automotive ECU (Electronic Control Unit)s by defining the development process and results for the entire life cycle of automotive electrical/electronic systems. These design methods are variously applied in representative automotive safety-critical systems. However, since the functional and safety requirements are different according to the characteristics of the safety-critical system, it is essential to research the AUTOSAR functional safety design method specialized for each application domain. In this paper, a software functional safety mechanism design method using AUTOSAR is proposed, and a new failure management framework is proposed to ensure the high reliability of the product. The AUTOSAR functional safety mechanism consists of memory partitioning protection, timing monitoring protection, and end-to-end protection. The fault management framework is composed of several safety SWCs to maintain the minimum function and performance even if a fault occurs during the operation of a safety-critical system. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the Shift-by-Wire system design to prove the validity of the proposed method.

Generation of Charged Clusters and their Deposition in Polycrystalline Silicon Hot-Wire Chemical Vapor Deposition (열선 CVD 증착 다결정 실리콘에서 전하를 띈 클러스터의 생성 및 증착)

  • Polycrystalline silicon films were deposited using hot wire CVD (HWCVD). The deposition of silicon thin films was approached by the theory of charged clusters (TCC). The TCC states that thin films grow by self-assembly of charged clusters or nanoparticles that have nucleated in the gas phase during the normal thin film process. Negatively charged clusters of a few nanometer in size were captured on a transmission electron microscopy (TEM) grid and observed by TEM. The negatively charged clusters are believed to have been generated by ion-induced nucleation on negative ions, which are produced by negative surface ionization on a tungsten hot wire. The electric current on the substrate carried by the negatively charged clusters during deposition was measured to be approximately $-2{\mu}A/cm^2$. Silicon thin films were deposited at different $SiH_4$ and $H_2$ gas mixtures and filament temperatures. The crystalline volume fraction, grain size and the growth rate of the films were measured by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The deposit ion behavior of the si1icon thin films was related to properties of the charged clusters, which were in turn controlled by the process conditions. In order to verify the effect of the charged clusters on the growth behavior, three different electric biases of -200 V, 0 V and +25 V were applied to the substrate during the process, The deposition rate at an applied bias of +25 V was greater than that at 0 V and -200 V, which means that the si1icon film deposition was the result of the deposit ion of charged clusters generated in the gas phase. The working pressures had a large effect on the growth rate dependency on the bias appled to the substrate, which indicates that pressure affects the charging ratio of neutral to negatively charged clusters. These results suggest that polycrystalline silicon thin films with high crystalline volume fraction and large grain size can be produced by control1ing the behavior of the charged clusters generated in the gas phase of a normal HWCVD reactor.

  • The neutral section was installed in order to prevent conflict with different phase angle source in electric railway catenary system. The speed of electric train reduced due to coasting operation by notch off when it passed the neutral section. And, the catenary wire was damaged and the accident might be happened because of the arc generation when the electric train passed the neutral section with notch off condition. The inrush current of main transformer installed tiling train is analyzed during the operation of MCB(main circuit break) passing through the neutral section. The instantaneous waveform of load current were analyzed in case of powering and regenerative braking. Inrush current waveform with run of AC railway train showed that inrush current waveform and harmonics, the inrush current generated from main transformer in train has bad effects on power quality problem. In order to reduce these inrush currents, the MCB is connected when the phase angle of voltage is 90 degree. This paper is to measure inrush current and harmonics in main transformer of high speed train in neutral section of electric railway. This measurement report is used to control minimum inrush current in algorithm and power phase angle.

  • Field model tests were performed to develop the grid-net landfill leachate leakage detection system using electrical resistance. Electric circuit tests were also carried out to investigate the expected electrical effects of grid-net electric circuit. The resistance of leaking point showed lower value than that of non leaking point. Grid-net leakage detection system was thought to be effective to locate the leachate leaking point. The measured electrical resistance along the wire including the leaking point was slightly reduced following the reduction of electrical resistance at the leaking point, which was explained by electric circuit test results.

Conceptual Change via Instruction based on PhET Simulation Visualizing Flow of Electric Charge for Science Gifted Students in Elementary School (전하이동을 시각화한 PhET 기반 수업을 통한 초등과학영재의 전류개념변화)

  • Even after learning electric current, elementary school students have various non-scientific conceptions and difficulties. Because flow of charge is not visible. Also elementary school students do not learn theory but phenomena, so they cannot transfer theoretical perspective to new situation. In this research, we have designed instruction based on PhET simulation visualizing flow of electric charge and applied it to 37 science-gifted students in elementary school for measuring conceptual understanding. As a result, six out of the seven Hake gains of question set are high gain and just one is middle gain because the students have understood the flow pattern of the charge through circuit elements such as light bulbs, wire, as well as battery with PhET simulation and it gives a chance to create various questions spontaneously about electric current. Also they become able to do spontaneous mental simulation without PhET simulation about flow of charges. This research, suggest that developed materials using PhET simulation could be used as not only program for gifted students in elementary school, but also the electrical circuit section in an elementary science curriculum.

  • 가공배전선로는 태풍과 같은 자연재해에 상시 노출되어 시설되므로 전기고장 및 설비피해가 발생할 우려가 매우 높다. 그러나 이와 관련한 실질적인 연구들이 부족하여 가공배전선로의 설계원들이 직선선로의 경간 결정시 단순히 저압부하밀도 및 전주강도만을 고려하고 있으며, 인류지선 및 종지선의 규격 선정방법을 잘 이해하지 못함에 따라 규격 선정의 오류가 발생되기도 한다. 따라서 본 고에서는 그 동안의 연구결과를 바탕으로 가공배전선로 설계시 수평선간이격거리를 고려한 경간 결정방법과 장경간 및 표준경간의 인류지선, 장경간개소 종지선 결정방법에 대하여 사례를 통해서 설명하였다. 본 고에서 제시한 방법에 따라 설계검토를 시행한다면 표준경간에서 선간단락고장을 예방할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 장경간 및 표준경간의 인류지선 및 종지선의 강도가 재해시에도 충분한 강도를 확보하여 설비피해 및 전기고장을 예방할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

An Experimental Study on Operation Setting Optimization of Circuit Breaker for Improving Safety on DC Railroad Feeder System (직류철도 급전계통의 안전성 향상을 위한 차단기 동작 최적 설정의 실험적 고찰)

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the optimal settings for the selected DC fault relay (50F) to improve the operating performance for the high-speed circuit breaker on DC feeding system which ensure safety within rolling stock maintenance depot. In this study, current supplied to overhead contact wire was calculated on 1 ms interval to analyze the correction values of DC fault selective relay for the operation of current supply cutout. Particularly, standards for the accurate detection of accidents between an electric railway vehicle and the electric power facilities are shown by investigating the optimal correction values for detection of fault current, and the results indicated that it takes about 213 ms for the DC fault selective relay(50F) to fully open. In the future, the correction values of DC fault selective relay suggested in this paper will be used as the reference values of protective relay for the safe operation of DC electric railroad system such as urban railway.
