  • This paper describes a risk assessment of electric shock based on a experiment which demonstrates a submerged commercial power source. For the experiment a water tank was made and an outlet was installed on an interior wall. After filling the tank with a conductive water solution, the electric potential was measured with the distance, the direction from the power source, the conductivity and the level of the water solution. As a result, the potential distribution due to the outlet energized and exposed to the water solution depends on the distance from the submerged power source, however, the direction from the power source, the conductivity and the level of the water solution seemed to scarcely affected on the electrical shock risk.

  • This paper describes the countermeasures for preventing the electric shock which can be occurred in the low-voltage handhole underwater. Low-voltage handholes were designed and made for the test in the testing field. Which were installed 4 cases. a metal handhole cover was employed in case 1; FRP(Fiber glass Reinforced Plastic) handhole cover in case 2; an insulated rubber was put on the joint of the cables in case 3; the exposed conductors(cover, frame etc) were commoned and grounded in case 4. Thus, an ground potential near the low-voltage handhole was measured and evaluated quantitatively for the 4 cases. The measured results show that the potential of case 2.3 were lower than that of case 1 because the insulated rubber and the FRP cover prevented direct contact to the fault point. The case 4 is the lowest among the 4 cases because the common and grounding helps the fault current release into the ground, which makes the ground potential rise lower. As a result, although each case has the defects, these ways can effectively lower the electric shock risk in the low-voltage handhole.

  • Recently, metal cases are widely used in smart phones for their luxurious color and texture. However, when a metal case is used, electric shock may occur during charging. Chip capacitors of various values are used to prevent the electric shock. However, chip capacitors are vulnerable to electrostatic discharge(ESD) generated by the human body, which often causes insulation breakdown during use. This breakdown can be eliminated with a high-voltage chip varistor over 340V, but when the varistor voltage is high, the capacitance is limited to about 2pF. If a chip capacitor with a high dielectric constant and a chip varistor with a high voltage can be combined, it is possible to obtain a new device capable of coping with electric shock and ESD with various capacitive values. Usually, varistors and capacitors differ in composition, which causes different shrinkage during co-firing, and therefore camber, internal crack, delamination and separation may occur after sintering. In addition, varistor characteristics may not be realized due to the diffusion of unwanted elements into the varistor during firing. Various elements are added to control shrinkage. In addition, a buffer layer is inserted in the middle of the varistor-capacitor junction to prevent diffusion during firing, thereby developing a co-fired product with desirable characteristics.

  • A study was designed to clarify the influence of the hippocampus upon tolerance by electric shock. Forty-eight male rats were used, of which 14 rats had their hippocampal tissue on both sides removed through an opening in the parieto-occipital cortex (hippocampal group), 17 rats received damage to the parieto-occipital cortex only (cortical control group), and 17 rats served as normal control animals. After 24 hours' fasting with water ad libitum, each animal was restrained on a plate with added electric shock (4 mA A.C., 1.5 sec in a duration, and once per minute in average) to the tail for the last 24 hours without food and water. The mortality in each animal group and the mean survival time of the dead animal during the repitition of electric shock were calculated. Results obtained were as follows: 1. The mortality was lower significantly in the hippocampal group than in the two control groups. 2. The mean survival time of the dead animal was longer insignificantly in the hippocampal group than in the two control groups. The inference from the above results is that the hippocampus exerts a inhibitory influence upon tolerance by electric shock.

  • In industrial field, especially the mobile generator is almost used as a islanding generator source for light, electric thrill, and compressor, and so on. However, because there still exists a lot of aged load, it causes the electric shock against person. In this paper authors introduce the proper method to reduce the electric shock in field discussing the scheme of ground connection.

  • This paper presents study on the electric potential distribution when have a short in skeet lamp. In order to measure electric potential testing ground is built in. A experiment is conducted to simulate dry and submerged situation of street lamp. The street lamp is leaked by artificial means. And electric potential is measured in grounded street lamp and street lamp alone. The results show that touch voltage of grounded street lamp is possible to more high than street lamp alone. And the electric shock hazard is high because high electric potential is distributed near submerged street lamp. Also if street lamp is submerged ground is not useful to decrease electric shock hazard.

  • Recently, important for the safety has been increasing together economic developments. The leakage only is measured by the voltage difference. This method is a way to contact the electric leakage area. It can cause electric shock at users. We propose a non-contact method to detect a short circuit in this paper. We investigate magnetic field at electric leakage area to present non-contact method. Simulated environment created a short circuit in the flooded areas. Voltage is supplied 50, 150 and 200[V]. Magnetic field was measured at 0, 5 and 10[cm]. Magnetic flux was reduced about $0.4[{\mu}T/cm]$ depending on the distance changes in the steady region. But we confirmed that magnetic flux is measured the same value depending on the distance changes in the electric leakage area.

  • Fracture mechanics is one of the major areas of the pressurized thermal shock (PTS) evaluation. To evaluate the reactor pressure vessel integrity associated with PTS, PFM methodology demands precise calculation of temperature, stress, and stress intensity factor for the variety of PTS transients. However, the existence of stainless steel cladding, with different thermal, physical, and mechanical property, at the inner surface of reactor pressure vessel complicates the fracture mechanics analysis. In this paper, treatment schemes to evaluate stress and resulting stress intensity factor for RPV with stainless steel clad are introduced. For a reference transient, the effects of clad thermal conductivity and thermal expansion coefficients on deterministic fracture mechanics analysis are examined.

  • This paper describes the investigation into the actual condition of electrical equipments installation and management for establishing the countermeasures against the electric shock in submerged underground. The investigation was carried out for 27 underground premises in conurbation including Seoul, and potential of the exposed electrical equipments negatively affecting on human safety when disaster occurs was measured. The objects to which measurement was carried out were as follows; electrical source; advertising lighting; power equipment. As a result, it was confirmed that potentials more than 230[V] were induced in some equipments. In addition, the electrical equipments installed in most conventional underground premises were left unmanaged.

  • In this paper, engine clutch engagement shock is analyzed during the mode change of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Multi-driving mode includes the EV (electric vehicle) mode, HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) mode, and engine operating mode. Depending on the mode change, the engine clutch is either engaged or disengaged. The magnitude of shock during clutch engagement is very important because it impacts vehicle acceleration and clutch synchronization speed, which affects ride comfort substantially. The performance simulator of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles was developed using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show that the mode change control algorithm is necessary for minimizing shock during clutch engagement.
