Specific capacitance and charge-discharge rate of EDLC using activated carbon electrode were affected by the compositions of electrolytes, the conditions of charge-discharge and physical properties of activated carbon materials. The activated carbon electrode was prepared by dip coating method. Charge-discharge test and electrochemical experiments were carried out for various kinds of organic electrolytes. Effects of charge and discharge current density on the specific capacitance were studied. Characteristics of leakage current, self-discharge and time-voltage curves in optimum conditions of organic electrolytes were compared with conventional $1M-Et_4NBF_4/PC$ electrolyte. The EDLC using MSP-20(specific surface area: $2000m^2/g$) electrode and $1M-LiPF_6/PC-DEC(1:1)$ was exhibited th highest specific capacitance of 130F/g and low polarization resistances. The EDLC using MSP-20 electrode at $1M-LiPF_6/PC-DEC(1:1)$ was small leak current of 0.0004A for 15min, long voltage retention of 0.8V after 100h and linear time-voltage curves with small IR-drop.

Recently, one-dimensional semiconducting nanomaterials have attracted considerable interest for their potential as building blocks for fabricating various nanodevices. Among these semiconducting nanomaterials,, $SnO_2$ nanostructures including nanowires, nanorods, nanobelts, and nanotubes were successfully synthesized and their electrochemical properties were evaluated. Although $SnO_2$ nanowires and nanobelts exhibit fascinating gas sensing characteristics, there are still significant difficulties in using them for device applications. The crucial problem is the alignment of the nanowires. Each nanowire should be attached on each die using arduous e-beam or photolithography, which is quite an undesirable process in terms of mass production in the current semiconductor industry. In this study, a simple process for making sensitive $SnO_2$ nanowire-based gas sensors by using a standard semiconducting fabrication process was studied. The nanowires were aligned in-situ during nanowire synthesis by thermal CVD process and a nanowire network structure between the electrodes was obtained. The $SnO_2$ nanowire network was floated upon the Si substrate by separating an Au catalyst between the electrodes. As the electric current is transported along the networks of the nanowires, not along the surface layer on the substrate, the gas sensitivities could be maximized in this networked and floated structure. By varying the nanowire density and the distance between the electrodes, several types of nanowire network were fabricated. The $NO_2$ gas sensitivity was 30~200 when the $NO_2$ concentration was 5~20ppm. The response time was ca. 30~110 sec.
The capacity of passive metal to repassivate after film damage determines the development of local corrosion and the resistance to corrosion failures. In this work, the repassivation kinetics of 316L stainless steel (316L SS) was investigated in borate buffer solution (pH 9.1) using a novel abrading electrode technique. The repassivation kinetics was analyzed in terms of the current density flowing from freshly bare 316L SS surface as measured by a potentiostatic method. During the early phase of decay (t < 2 s), according to the Avrami kinetics-based film growth model, the transient current was separated into anodic dissolution ($i_{diss}$) and film formation ($i_{film}$) components and analyzed individually. The film reformation rate and thickness were compared according to applied potential. Anodic dissolution initially dominated the repassivation for a short time, and the amount of dissolution increased with increasing applied potential in the passive region. Film growth at higher potentials occurred more rapidly compared to at lower potentials. Increasing the applied potential from 0 $V_{SCE}$ to 0.8 $V_{SCE}$ resulted in a thicker passive film (0.12 to 0.52 nm). If the oxide monolayer covered the entire bare surface (${\theta}=1$), the electric field strength through the thin passive film reached $1.6{\times}10^7V/cm$.

Alkaline water electrolysis has been commercialized as the only large-scale method for a long time to produce hydrogen and the technology is superior to other methods such as photochemical, thermochemical water splitting, and thermal decomposition method in view of efficiency and related technical problem. However, such conventional electrolyzer do not have high electric efficiency and productivity to apply to large scale hydrogen production for energy or chemical feedstocks. Solid polymer electrolyte water electrolysis using a perfluorocation exchange membrane as an $H^+$ ion conductor is considered to be a promising method, because of capability for operating at high current densities and low cell voltages. So, this is a good technology for the storage of electricity generated by photovoltaic power plants, wind generators and other energy conversion systems. One of the most important R&D topics in electrolyser is how to minimize cell voltage and maximize current density in order to increase the productivity of the electrolyzer. A commercialized technology is the hot press method which the film type electrocatalyst is hot-pressed to soild polymer membrane in order to eliminate the contact resistance. Various technologies, electrocatalyst formed over Nafion membrane surface by means of nonelectrolytic plating process, porous sintered metal(titanium powder) or titanium mesh coated with electrocatalyst, have been studied for preparation of membrane-electrocatalyst composites. In this study some experiments have been conducted at a solid polymer electrolyte water electrolyzer, which consisted of single cell stack with an electrode area of $25cm^2$ in a unipolar arrangement using titanium mesh coated with electrocatalyst.

The extent of materials deterioration can be evaluated accurately by mechanical test such as impact test or creep test. But it is almost impossible to extract a large test specimen from in-service components. Thus material degradation evaluation by non-destructive method is earnestly required. In this paper, the material degradation for virgin and several aged materials of a Cr-Mo-V steel, which is an candidated as structural material of the turbine casing components for electric power plant, is nondestructively evaluated by reactivation polarization testing method. And, the results obtained from the test are compared with those in small punch(SP) tests recommended as a semi-nondestructive testing method using miniaturized specimen. In contrast to the aged materials up to 1,000hrs which exhibit the degradation behaviors with increased ${\Delta}[DBTT]_{SP}$, the improvement of mechanical property can be observed on the 2,000hrs and 3,000hrs aged materials. This is because of the softening of material due to the carbide precipitation, the increase of ferritic structures and the recovery of dislocation microstructure by long-time heat treatment. The reactivation rates($I_R/I_{Crit},\;Q_R/Q_{Crit}$) calculated by reactivation current densityt ($I_R$) and charge($Q_R$) in the polarization curves exhibit a good correlation with ${\Delta}[DBTT]_{SP}$ behaviors.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been considered as one of the promising candidate for next-generation field emitters because of their unique properties, such as high field enhancement factor, good mechanical strength, and excellent chemical stability. So far, a lot of researchers have been interested in field emission properties of CNT itself. However, it is necessary to study proper field emitter shapes, as well as the fundamental properties of CNTs, to apply CNTs to real devices. For example, specific applications, such as x-ray sources, e-beam sources, and microwave amplifiers, need to get a focused electron beam from the field emitters. If we use planar-typed CNT emitters, it will need several focal lenses to reduce a size of electron beam. On the other hand, the point-typed CNT emitters can be an effective way to get a focused electron beam using a simple technique. Here, we introduce a fabrication of CNT fibers with nanoscale point tips which can be used as a point-typed emitter. The emitter made by the CNT fibers showed very low turn-on electric field, high current density, and large enhancement factor. In addition, it showed stable emission current during long operation period. The high performance of CNT point emitter indicated the potential e-beam source candidate for the applications requiring small electron beam size.

Iron-excess gallium ferrite, $Ga_{0.6}Fe_{1.4}O_3$ (GFO), is known to have room-temperature ferromagnetic phases and potentially exhibit ferroelectricity as well [1]. But, leaky polarization-electric field (PE) hysteresis curves of the GFO thin film are hurdle to prove its spontaneous polarization, in other words, ferroelecticity. One of the reasons that the GFO films have leaky PE hysteresis loop is carrier hopping between $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ sites due to oxygen deficiency. We focus on reducing conducting current by substituting divalent cations at $Fe^{2+}$ sites. GFO thin films were grown epitaxially along b-axis normal to $SrRuO_3/SrTiO_3$ (111) substrates by pulsed laser deposition. Current density of the ion-substituted GFO thin films was reduced by $10^3$ or more. Ferroelectric properties of the ion-substituted GFO thin films were measured using macroscopic and microscopic schemes. In particular, local ferroelectric properties of the GFO thin films were exhibited and their remnant polarization and piezoelectric d33 coefficient were obtained.

A facile soft chemical synthesis route is used to grow nano-buds of copper hydroxide [$Cu(OH)_2$] thin films on stainless steel substrate[SS]. Besides different chemical methods for synthesis of $Cu(OH)_2$ nanostructure, the chemical bath deposition (CBD) is attractive for its simplicity and environment friendly condition. The structural, morphological, and electro-chemical properties of $Cu(OH)_2$ thin films are studied by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) measurement techniques. The results showed that, facile chemical synthesis route allows to form the polycrystalline, granular nano-buds of $Cu(OH)_2$ thin films. The electrochemical properties of $Cu(OH)_2$ thin films are studied in an aqueous 1 M KOH electrolyte using cyclic voltammetry. The sample exhibited supercapacitive behavior with $340Fg^{-1}$ specific capacitance. Moreover, electrochemical capacitive measurements of $Cu(OH)_2/SS$ electrode exhibit a high specific energy and power density about ${\sim}83Wh\;kg^{-1}$ and ${\sim}3.1kW\;kg^{-1}$, respectively, at $1mA\;cm^{-2}$ current density. The superior electrochemical properties of copper hydroxide ($Cu(OH)_2/SS$) electrode with nano-buds like structure mutually improves pseudocapacitive performance. This work evokes scalable chemical synthesis with the enhanced supercapacitive performance of $Cu(OH)_2/SS$ electrode in energy storage devices.
Since silicone rubber heaters are flexible, they can be directly attached or installed in objects to be heated even in flat, curved or three-dimensional shapes. Since the current heating method heats the entire object to be heated and raises it to a required temperature, ignoring areas or positions where heat is not required, partial intensive heating cannot be performed. When using multi-heating zones, rather than heating the entire object to be heated, only the parts that need heat are intensively heated according to the process, so it is possible to heat quickly by local location by applying different amounts of heat with a small amount of electric capacity to each place that needs heat, and heat energy can reduce. In this study, the temperature and heating time of the partially concentrated region in the multi-heating region structure are measured so that a uniform temperature or temperature difference occurs in the region requiring thermal fusion. In order to determine the optimal power density range and reduce capacitance, the safety of a silicon rubber heater manufactured with a multi-heating zone structure is investigated. If the silicon rubber heater is manufactured in a multi-heating method, the multi-intensive heating technology can be ideally applied to all heating processes.
The magnetic field due to a current is one of the core concepts in electromagnetism which has been taught in secondary science education. In addition, it is a representative example of using visual representations to explain the relation between invisible physical quantities; current and magnetic field. In this study we investigated middle school students' representational competence into three components; interpretation, construction, and application of visual representations. According to the analysis, more than 75 % of the respondents interpreted the meaning of the arrows for current and magnetic field correctly. However, half of them confused the movement of electric charges with the direction of magnetic field. Over 60 % of the students constructed the magnetic field representation as circular closed curves, but many of them could not express the density of field lines properly. In application of visual representations, more than half failed to draw the direction of compass needle correctly. The scores were in order of interpretation, construction and application. There were also significant correlations among three components of representational competence. More attention and research on students' representational competence and effective use of visual representations is needed to better support science learning and teaching.
