  • Since electric railway load is variable largely due to starting and braking characteristics as well as various operation patterns, load modeling is not easy but complicated. For this reason, a simple technique for modeling of electric railway load of is required to analyze the AC substation system of electric railway. In this paper, a modeling technique of converter-based electric railway load is proposed and is tested using nonlinear loads on Matlab/Simulink.

  • This paper is a numerical analysis study for evaluating the energy efficiency of electric vehicles. Currently, the methods for testing and evaluating the energy consumption efficiency of electric vehicles have limitations such as resources and time. Therefore, there is a need for research on developing models to predict the energy consumption efficiency of electric vehicles. In this study, a numerical analysis research is conducted to predict the energy efficiency of electric vehicles using a vehicle dynamics numerical analysis model. To validate the accuracy of the simulation model, it is compared the results of dynamometer tests with the simulation results and used the Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) protocol to acquire internal data from the electric vehicle. It is ensured the reliability of the simulation model by comparing data such as motor speed, battery voltage, current, state of charge (SOC), regenerative braking power generation, and total driving distance of the test vehicle with dynamometer test data and simulation model results.

  • Most of DC 1500V electric railway substations have adopted diode rectifiers to supply stable DC power. However, the diode rectifiers operate in the first quadrant of the voltage-current plane and thus need regenerative inverters which transfer the surplus regenerative power caused by regenerative braking of electric train sets into the grid. In order to select the proper capacity and installation position of regenerative inverter, it needs to investigate the consumed and regenerative energy of the electric traction substations in advance. This paper presents an analysis of regenerative energy in two substations operating in Seoul Seolleung and Kwangju Yangdong substations. DC line voltage and feeder currents are measured for a day to calculate consumed and regenerative power far four feeders. We calculated an amount of regenerative energy consumed in other feeders and estimated the cost reduction in energy consumption due to the reuse of regenerative energy

  • Energy Storage System(ESS) is installed at feeding line of railway substation. ESS will absorb regenerative energy when train braking and also charge electric energy when feeding line is no load condition. Absorbed and charged energy will be supplied when train is accelerating condition. Due to ESS the energy variation will be minimized and this effect is estimated.

  • Electric brake booster systems replace conventional pneumatic brake boosters with electric motors and rotary-todisplacement mechanisms including ECU (Electronic Control Unit). Electric booster brake systems require precise target pressure tracking and control robustness because vehicle brake systems operate properly given the large range of loading and temperature, actuator saturation, load-dependent friction. Also for the implement of imbedded control system, the controller should be selected considering the limited memory size and the cycle time problem of real brake ECU. In this study, based on these requirements, a sliding mode controller has been chosen and applied considering both model uncertainty and external disturbance. A mathematical model for the electric booster is derived and simulated. The developed sliding mode controller considering chattering problem has been compared with a conventional cascade PID controller. The effectiveness of the controller is demonstrated in some braking cases.

  • An Electric railway system has the characteristics. The train powered by substations generates regenerative power when it runs on railway of various slope. A regenerative braking is an ideal system on account of reducing mechanical braking as well as recycling the energy. This study dealt with the line gradient review, train running records and power data out of substations in a bid to establish the efficient regenerative energy storage system.
