AC Electrical Treeing Phenomena in an Epoxy System with Low-chlorine BDGE at Various Electric Field Frequencies

  • An alternating current (AC) electrical treeing phenomena in an epoxy system with low chlorine BDGE (1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether) was studied in a needle-plate electrode arrangement. To measure the treeing propagation rate and breakdown time, a constant AC of 10 kV with three different electric field frequencies (60, 500, and 1,000 Hz) was applied to the needle-plate electrode specimen at $130^{\circ}C$ in aninsulating oil bath. The treeing propagation rate of the DGEBA/high-chlorine BDGE system was higher than that of the DGEBA/low-chlorine BDGE system and the breakdown time of the system with high-chlorine BDGE was lower than that of the system with low-chlorine BDGE. These results implied that chlorine had a negative effect on the electrical insulation property of the epoxy system. As the electric field frequency increased, the treeing propagation rate increased and the breakdown time decreased.

The properties of diffraction efficiency in polarization holography using the chalcogenide thin films by the electric field effects. (칼코게나이드 박막에서 전계효과에 의한 편광 홀로그래피 회절효율 특성)

  • Amorphous chalcogenide glasses have a wide variety of light-induced effects. In this study, we have investigated the diffraction efficiency of chalcogenide. As$_{40}$ Ge$_{10}$ Se$_{15}$ S$_{35}$ thin films by the various applied electric fields. The holographic grating in these thin films has been formed using a linearly polarized He-Ne laser light (633nm). The diffraction efficiency was investigated the two method of applied electric field in the perpendicular and parallel to the direction of inducing beam. We obtained that properties of diffraction efficiency in the two methods of applied electric field. The result is shown that the diffraction efficiency of parallel electric field is 285% increase, η=1.1$\times$10$^{-3}$ and the diffraction efficiency of perpendicular electric field is 80% decrease, η=9.83$\times$10$^{-5}$ . Also, we have investigated the anisotropy property on chalcogenide thin films by the electric field effects.

  • This paper describes a lighting warning system (LWS) which consists of a corona needle electrode, a low noise differential amplifier, an A/D converter, an one-chip microprocessor, a LCD and alarm devices. The corona needle electrode is used to measure electric field intensity caused by thunderclouds on the ground level. To evaluate the sensitivity of the LWS, calibration experiment was carried out using a round-shape parallel plate electrode system. The theoretical and experimental results show that the LWS can measure electric field intensity over 2 [kV/m].

  • The Breakdown electric field of ZnO semiconductor devices in voltage-current characteristics was increased by increasing of additive materials. The specimen that has not additive materials was not formed spinel structure. The critical voltage that has not spinel structure was 235[V]. When the additive materials has 0.5 and 2[mol%], the Breakdown electric field was 840 and 758[V] in each additive materials. The Breakdown electric field of varistors as a factor of voltage and current was increased by addition of oxide antimony. The varistors that has oxide antimony was linearly increased in low electric field.

  • A three-electrode type reflective display (electronic paper) is designed to apply an independent electric field to each three electrodes of the cell including two electric-type of particles and electrically neutral color fluid, so single color realization is possible. In particular, the movement of particles and optical properties are decided by the electric field between two electrodes on the lower substrate. So, the effect of electric field by the distance between two electrodes on the lower substrate is studied with electrode spacing with $10{\mu}m$, $15{\mu}m$, $20{\mu}m$, and $25{\mu}m$. By our experimentation, the driving voltage induces more reliable movement of charged particles and the optical properties as compared with the threshold voltage. We ascertain the single color realization and non-inverted particle separation is possible. So the more desirable optical properties are observed in case of the short electrode like $10{\mu}m$.

A Study on the Design of Compact Polymer Bushing with Inner Control Shield (내부쉴드 구조에 따른 컴팩트한 폴리머 부싱 설계에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes a study on the design of compact polymer bushing with inner control shield. In the bushing, a high electric stress occurred between field shaper and central conductor by the closely space. Also coaxial cylindrical shield has a great height along the axis to control an electric field. Consequently, all the potentials are raised axially along the field shaper and electric stress is concentrated on a part of the surface of the FRP tube near the upper end of the field shaper. In accordance, the field control can be achieved by means of the designs of such inner control shields. The floating and ring shield designs was decreased electric field concentration at critical parts of the bushing. The shield gaps is formed between field shaper and ring shield. Accordance equipotential lines extend through gaps. As a result, the resulting electrical stress are thus reduced in the range $17{\sim}23%$ in the bushing with floating and ring shield designs. Maxwell 2D simulator based on the boundary element method was also introduced in order to verify the reliability of the polymer bushing. The optimized design uses internal elements for electric stress grading at critical parts of the bushing.

Variation of the Representation Ellipsoid for Refractive Index of Bi12GeO20Single Crystal by an Electric Field (전기장에 의한 Bi12GeO20 단결정의 굴절률 표시타원체의 변형)

  • We derived a formula which can calculate the space distribution of refractive index variation by an applied electric field about Bi$_{12}$ GeO$_{20}$ single crystal. Stereographic projection maps of refractive index variation by an applied electric field were made out using numerical value to be calculated by this formula. By the calculated results, since an electric field had applied to [(equation omitted) 1 1] direction and [1 (equation omitted) 1] direction of Bi$_{12}$ GeO$_{20}$ crystal, positive variation of the refractive index of [(equation omitted) 1 1] direction and [1 (equation omitted) 1] direction was the largest. The incremented refractive index per unit electric field was +3.2410${\times}$10$^{-11}$ V$^{-1}$ for the wavelength of 6328 $\AA$. Since an electric field had applied to [1 1 1] direction and [(equation omitted) 1] direction, negative variation of the refractive index of [1 1 1] direction and [(equation omitted) 1] direction was the largest. The decremented refractive index per unit electric field was -3.2410${\times}$10$^{-11}$ V$^{-1}$ for the wavelength of 6328 $\AA$.

Piezoelectric and Electric Field Induced Strain Properties of PMW-PNN-PZT Ceramics with the Substitution of Ba (Ba 치환에 따른 PMW-PNN-PZT 세라믹스의 압전 및 전계유기왜형 특성)

  • To develop the piezoelectric actuator, the structural, dielectric and piezoelectric properties and electric fieldinduced strain of the ceramics(Pb$\_$1-2/Ba$\_$x/)[Mg$\_$1/2/W$\_$1/2/)$\_$0.03/-Ni$\_$1/3/Nb$\_$2/3/)$\_$0.12/-(Zr$\_$0.5/Ti$\_$0.5/)$\_$0.85/]O$_3$(x=0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07, 0.1) were investigated with the substitution of Ba. The tetragonality of crystal structure and grain size decreased by the substitution of Ba. Curie temperature decreased due to the decrease of the tetragonality, and dielectric constants increased with the substitution of Ba. The coercive field, remnant polarization and electromechanical coupling factor also decreased, whereas the piezoelectric constatns d$\_$33/ and d$\_$31/ were showed the highest value of 430 and 209(x10$\^$-12/C/N), respectively, because of the increase of dielectric constant. The strain induced by 60Hz AC electric field had the maximum value of 204x10$\^$-6/Δℓ/ℓ at the substitution of Ba 3mol%. As the applied electric field approaches to the coercive field, the piezoelectric element is depolarized and the electric field induced strain revealed non-linearity.

Output Voltage Characteristics of HVDC Electric Field Mill Sensor for Different Speed Variables of Rotating Electrode

  • This paper explains the effects of the weak signal of a rotating-type electric field mill sensor fabricated for measuring the intensity of the electric field generated by high-voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission lines. The fabricated field mill consists of two isolated electrode vanes, a motor driver, and a ground part. The sensor plate is exposed to and shielded from the electric field by means of a rotary shutter consisting of a motor-driven mechanically complementary rotor/stator pair. When the uncharged sensor plate is exposed to an electric field, it becomes charged. The rotating electrode consists of several conductive vanes and is connected to the ground part, so that it is shielded. Determining the appropriate design variables such as the speed of the vane, its shape, and the distance between the two electrodes, is essential for ensuring optimal performance. By varying the speed, the weak signal characteristics which is used to signal processing and calibration experiment are quite different. Each weak signal pattern was analyzed along with the output voltage characteristics, in order to be able to determine the intensity of the electric field generated by HVDC power transmission lines with accuracy.

  • This paper describes the analysis of electric field distribution of high voltage polymeric bushing with structure. The high voltage bushing consists of FRP tube and housing made of LSR. The field control can be achieved by means of the design of such internal field shaper and top corona ring as grading electrodes. In accordance, the optimized design uses both internal and external elements for electric stress grading at critical parts of the bushing. Maxwell 2D simulator based on the boundary element method was also introduced in order to verify the reliability of the polymeric bushing.
