Nylon 12 elastomer was slightly crosslinked in molten state by the addition of small amount of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) as a crosslink agent and triallycyanuate (TAC) as a co-agent during melt compounding at $160^{\circ}C$ in an internal mixer. The effect of the peroxide crosslinking on mechanical, dynamic mechanical and rheological properties of the nylon 12 elastomer was investigated by means of tensile testing, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and small amplitude oscillating rheometer, respectively. With modification, there is an improvement in tensile modulus and Young's modulus with decease in elongation at break. DMA results for peroxide modified nylon 12 elastomers demonstrated that the glass transiaiton temperature of PTMG segment shifted to higher temperature and the storage modulus remained constant above the melting temperature of nylon 12 segments. Melt rheological studies revealed that the peroxide modified nylon 12 elastomer exhibited a more solid like behavior and stronger shear thinning behavior compared to neat nylon 12 elastomer, which was more prominent at higher TAC content in the polymer matrix. The peroxide modified nylon 12 elastomer exhibited good elastic recoverability and improved mechanical properties without sacrificing melt processibilty, and especially the service temperature range increased as compared to neat nylon 12 elastomer.
In this study, We were studied on the properties of polyurethane elastomer containing the polyol, chain extender and isocyanate in polyurethane elastomer. Polyurethane elastomer had the best properties with poly(tetramethylene) glycol for in-line skate wheel. With more incorporation of chain extender content in polyurethane elastomer, tensile strength and hardness increased and elongation decreased. And then properties of polyurethane elastomer with the bulky type isocyanate had better than the flexible type isocyanate.
In order to develop the blends with good long-term thermal stability and tensile elongation, the blends of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and 7 kinds of elastomer were tested. PPS/elastomer (90/10, 80/20, 70/30) blend samples were prepared by compression molding after twin screw extrusion or punching after sheet extrusion. Rheological, mechanical property and morphology of the blends were analyzed by capillary rheometer, UTM, impact tester, and SEM. For long-term thermal stability tests, the mechanical properties were measured again after the samples were stored in a convection oven for a week. The tensile strengths were almost same regardless of kinds of elastomer and the tensile elongation was the maximum for the PPS/m-EVA blend. As the content of elastomer increased, the elongation increased but delamination occurred at 30 wt% of elastomer content. The tensile strength increased but the elongation decreased seriously after thermal aging. Many problems related with PPS processing could be solved by adding a small amount of the elastomers partially compatibile with PPS and it would be applicable to develop various PPS grades.

In this study, Shock Absorption performance of Magneto-rheological elastomer(MRE) is identified through the drop impact test. Magneto-rheological materials are divided into two groups by MR fluid in fluid state and MR elastomer in solid state like rubber. The stiffness characteristics of Magneto-rheological material can be changed as magnetic field is applied. The impact loads in MR elastomer were measured under weight of impactor. Experiment results are shown through the experiments to confirm the effect of shock absorption of MR elastomer. Thus, the MR elastomer can be applied to shock absorber used in area that shock occurs.
In this study, as one of the developing ways of the functional elastomer, improvement of the functionality of 1-Chlorobutadiene-Butadiene Copolymer(CB-BR) was attempt through curing reaction by moisture. The curing reaction of CB-BR was determined an use of $\gamma$-Aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APS) and $\gamma$-Aminopropylmethyldiethoxysilane(ADS) as a crosslinking agent with filler at so the uncrosslinked elastomer was exposured in the air and curing reaction by moisture in the air was studied. The results obtained are as follows. 1. APS was more efficient than ADS as a crosslinking agent for CB-BR 2. Optimum amount of APS for moisture cured elastomer was r=1.5(at the ratio of $[APS]/[Cl^*]$) also in case(r=1.5), elastomer formed after soaking $T_{72}$ had similar physical properties with elastomer crosslinked by sulfur and it was very good. 3. Uncrosslinked elastomer(CB-BR+APS+Silica) was easily crosslinked by exposure to the air, and the physical properties was also satisfactory.

Micro-dimples on sliding surfaces have been investigated to reduce the frictional forces on metal bearing surfaces; however, for an elastomer, such as thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), this has not been studied. The material properties of an elastomer are affected by temperature, and this can shorten the life of the elastomer. In this paper, micro-dimples were applied on the surface of an elastomer in order to reduce the frictional heating, which was experimentally investigated using pin-on-disk apparatus while the surface temperature was measured. To obtain optimal design parameters, the design of the experiment was applied, and the shape of the section, size, depth and density of micro-dimples were selected as the design parameters. The results show that the size of the dimple is the most important design parameter.
The vibration characteristic analysis of sandwich cylindrical shells subjected with magnetorheological (MR) elastomer and constraining layer are considered in this study. And, the discrete finite element method is adopted to calculate the vibration and damping characteristics of the sandwich cylindrical shell system. The effects of thickness of the MR elastomer, constraining layer, applied magnetic fields on the vibration characteristics of the sandwich shell system are also studied in this paper. Additionally, the rheological properties of the MR elastomer can be changed by applying various magnetic fields and the properties of the MR elastomer are described by complex quantities. The natural frequencies and modal loss factor of the sandwich cylindrical shells are calculated for many designed parameters. The core layer of MR elastomer is found to have significant effects on the damping behavior of the sandwich cylindrical shells.
Magneto-rheological elastomer (MR elastomer) is a smart material, because it has mechanical properties that change under a magnetic field. An MR elastomer changes its stiffness characteristics when the inner particles (iron particles) align along the direction of a magnetic field. There has been much research to make use of this characteristic to control vibration issues in various mechanical systems, such as for mounting systems in the automotive field, home appliances, etc. Furthermore, the friction and wear properties of MR elastomer have been studied, as these relate to the durability of the material needed to meet engineering requirements. Rolling friction (or rolling resistance) is one of these friction properties, but has not yet been studied in the context of MR elastomers. In this study, an MR elastomer is fabricated in the shape of a hollow cylinder to evaluate the rolling friction characteristic under a magnetic field. The test apparatus is setup and a strain gauge is used to calculate the rolling resistance under test conditions. Permanent magnets are used to supply the magnetic field during tests. The load and rolling speed conditions are also considered for the tests. The test results show that rolling friction characteristic has a different trend under different magnetic field, load, and rolling speed conditions. It is assumed that the stiffness change of an MR elastomer under a magnetic field has an effect on the rolling friction characteristic of the MR elastomer. For the future work, the rolling friction characteristics of MR elastomers will be controlled by adjusting the strength of the magnetic field using electromagnets.
The actuation performance of an EADE (Electro-active dielectric elastomer) is studied as functions of thinner content, thickness and types of the dielectric elastomer such as natural (NR), acrylonitrile-butadiene (NBR), and silicon (KE-12) rubbers. With a decrease in elastomer thickness ($1{\rightarrow}0.5{\rightarrow}0.25{\rightarrow}0.1{\rightarrow}0.05$ mm) and an increase in thinner content ($0{\rightarrow}30{\rightarrow}50$ phr), the actuating displacement of KE-12 elastomer is increased, however their breakdown occurs at low voltage. For the same thickness (1 mm), the displacement of KE-12 elastomer shows a higher value (2.24 mm) compared to that of NR or NBR at the same applied voltage of 25 kV. The KE-12 has the lowest elastic modulus and the NBR has the highest one among the tested elastomers. However, the displacement of NBR elastomer is higher compared to that of NR because of high dielectric constant. It is found that the important factors of EADE actuator are a thickness, modulus and dielectric constant of the elastomer.

In this paper we investigated electrical properties for epoxy resin with improved mechanical property, elastomer epoxy. Investigated electrical properties are permittivity, tan $\delta$ and breakdown voltage strength(BDV). Permittivity and tan $\delta$ have dependancy on additive Quantity in general purpose epoxy resin. In particularly, those have very high values at low frequency and high temperature according to increasing component of elastomer. In case of BDV test, those materials have only a little difference due to increasing elastomer components. But in case of high quantities of elastomer, BDV has a difference. These results are represented that elastomer epoxy resin despite superior mechanical property needs many carefully thought as application electrical insulation.
