This study was performed to investigate the hatching rate and eggs period until hatching in the laboratory against lantern fly, Lycorma delicatula eggs with different collecting date of eggs, and the susceptibility of 26 insecticides to the eggs, 1st and 2nd nymphs of Lycorma delicatula. The eggs of L. delicatula were increased the hatching rates as passed collecting date of eggs, and shorten in eggs period until hatching. By screening the susceptibility of 26 insecticides to the eggs, 1st, and 2nd nymphs, chlorpyrifos (312.5 ppm) showed the perfect inhibition effect of hatching against the eggs, however, the other insecticides did not show that effect. According to the collecting date of eggs, chlorpyrifos bioassayed the inecticidal effect with different concentration (625 ppm at double conc., 312.5 ppm at recommended conc., and 156.3 ppm at half conc.). The eggs collected from Apr. 20th 2010, were showed the inhibition effect of hatching over 94.5%, but the eggs collected from May 10th, 2010 were showed the inhibition effect of hatching as 86.7, 71.1, and 47.1%, respectively. However, hatched eggs were all killed perfectly within 24 hours. At recommended and half concentrations, the eggs collected from 15, May, are decreased the effect as 48.6%, 53.7%, respectively, and the mortality of eggs hatched also decreased as 61.0 and 22.0%, respectively, however, double concentrations did not show the changes. From the above results, it will be anticipate to show the higher mortality against the eggs of L. delicatula when treated chlorpyrifos until late-April.
Eggs that have been hard-boiled are frequently used as ready-to-eat food. Refrigerated and frozen storage of hard-boiled eggs causes issues, such as customer rejection owing to textural changes. The objective of this research is to ascertain how storage temperature affects hard-boiled eggs' alteration in texture over time. Medium-sized brown shell eggs were acquired from a local market, boiled at 100℃ for 15 min, and then stored at room temperature (25℃), refrigeration (4℃), and freezing (-18℃) conditions for 0, 12, 24, and 48 h. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), texture profile, visual observation using a gemological microscope, free amino acid content, and color were measured. Freezing had a substantial impact on the eggs' hardness, gumminess, chewiness, and cohesiveness (p<0.05). The FTIR spectrums confirmed the textural changes in bonds of amide A (3,271 cm-1), amide I (1,626.2 cm-1), amide II (1,539.0 cm-1), C=O stretch of COO- (1,397 cm-1), asymmetric PO2- stretch (1,240 cm-1). Microscopic images confirmed structural changes in eggs stored at -18℃. The free amino acid content was lower in fresh and frozen eggs than in the rest (p<0.05). However, there was no discernible variation in the egg white's color when eggs were kept at 4℃ (p>0.05). Salmonella spp. was found exclusively in eggs kept at room temperature. In conclusion, hard-boiled eggs did not exhibit structural or chemical changes when stored at 4℃ for up to 48 h compared to freezing and room temperature conditions.
These studies were conducted to compare the nutritive values and optimum prices of eggs among 6 groups of different egg Weight. With the total of 100 eggs of each weight group, after the weight percentage of egg yolk, albumen and shell in the whole egg were investigated, protein and fat contents of e99 yolk and albumen were analyzed. and then protein and fat contents in the whole eggs were calculated. Finally, the optimum prices of eggs in relation to the egg weight were studied on the basis of egg weight, protein content and protein plus fat contents of eggs, respectively. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. As the egg weight (X, g/10 eggs) increased, egg yolk (Y$_1$, %) and shell(Y$_2$, %) percentages tended to decrease, but egg albumen(Y$_3$, %) percentage increased lineally; Y$_1$=44.34-0.02X, Y$_2$=15.358-0.006 X, and Y$_3$=40.136+0.026 X. 2. There were no significant differences in protein and fat contents of eggs among 6 different groups of egg weight. 3. Protein (Y$_1$, %), fat (Y$_2$, %) and protein plus fat (Y$_3$, %) contents in the whole eggs declined progressively as the egg weight (X, g/10 eggs) increased ; Y$_1$=11.943-0.00032X, Y$_2$=13.996-0.00614X, and Y$_3$=25.939-0.00646X. 4. Similar results were obtained whether the optimum prices of eggs were estimated on the basis of egg weight or protein content of eggs, and they were higher in the large size eggs and lower in the small size eggs than the optimum prices of eggs estimated on the basis of protein plus fat content of eggs.
The following results were obtained through the experiments and study of fertility for silkworm eggs in vagina, oviduct, and ovarial base. The sample eggs were collected after leaving silkworm moth for one week from the date of treatment was given to oviporm orifice of the silkworm moth by heated needle in order to discontinue laying eggs. Those sample silkworm moths were divided into two groups. The first group was under the condition of immediately after the couplation and the second group was under the condition of after the laying eggs in some extend, and both of them were completed couplation. The sample eggs were screened in order to confirm the degree of color which normally be observed as very characteristic during hibernating. 1. About 5% of silkworm out of the total sample were identified as having 1-2 eggs. (See table 1). But, the charasteristic colour of hibernating egg was not observed. The colour was not much different as that of eggs in ovarian duct. 2. Immediately after the couplation, the eggs were not found in vagina under the condition of immediately after the couplation. 3. About 10% of the sample under the condition of after laying eggs in some extend were found having eggs in vagina or oviduct. 4. About 2% of the sample silkworm moth under the condition of immediately after the couplation were found having I fertilized egg in oviduct. 5. No fertilized egg was found in ovarian tube. It seemed that sperm did not enter ovarian tube. 6. Almost the entire eggs were found in ovarian tube under the condition of immediately after the couplation. But, eggs under the condition of after laying eggs in some extend were found around oviduct and vagina due to the continuous movement of silkworm eggs towards oviporus orifice. 7. Sperm is mainly found around seminal receptacle and vagina, and sperm goes into micropyle together with silkworm eggs which were moving towards oviduct.

Purpose - Eggs are nutritionally complete and one of the most popular natural foods. Moreover, the poultry industry is one of the important food industries. However, early industrialization of the poultry industry on its own did not lead to further development compared to other livestock industries. In this study, we investigate what factors influence consumers' behavior and how consumers' understanding of retail business affects their propensity to consume. This study is different from other studies as it analyzes how the brand names of manufacturers and distribution companies affect the purchasing characteristics or actual purchase behavior of consumers in order to suggest how these manufacturers and distribution companies can increase their competitiveness. Research design, data, methodology - This study conducted a survey of 250 randomly selected egg purchasers in discount stores from January to April 2013. Consumers' purchase tendencies were calculated through frequency analysis. This result was then utilized using cluster analysis to draw a conclusion about which purchase tendency influenced consumers buying three different brands of eggs or whether this tendency really affected consumers. As a result, the outcomes of Hypotheses 2 and 3 were not clear so we drew a conclusion with our analysis of Hypothesis 1. Results - While the outcomes of Hypotheses 2 and 3 did not clearly indicate whether purchasing tendencies affected consumers when buying eggs, our analysis of Hypothesis 1 indicated that consumers were affected by the quality of the eggs rather than exterior factors such as the brand name. Thus, we concluded that it is important to promote the excellence of the quality of the eggs. Usually firms buy eggs from farms and repackage them in order to sell them. In this sense, if consumers were aware of this egg production process, and eggs were fairly distributed to retailers, large retail PB businesses would also be able to enhance their competitiveness. Conclusions - The brand, packaging, retail outlet, and other external features influenced the purchase of eggs to a certain degree, while shelf life, grade of the eggs, cleanliness, and other intrinsic characteristics had more influence. In particular, shelf life was the most important factor influencing purchase. Consumers were influenced not only by intrinsic characteristics of the eggs but also by large-scale producers' brands. Consumers relied upon the brand despite reduced competition because they found it difficult to identify shelf life and/or cleanliness. Small businesses and/or large-scale retailers can remain competitive by maintaining the freshness and cleanliness of the eggs. Further studies need to investigate areas in which consumers' cognition of the product is poor and/or the purchase inclination with regard to less developed industries such as eggs. In this study, the greatest problem was that consumers did not consume in accordance with the current situation as consumers have preferred fresh and clean eggs for a long time compared to purchase decisions based on external brands and/or packaging.

We investigated seasonal variations in the abundance of the adults and the resting eggs of copepods to understand the role of copepod resting eggs for maintaining their population inhabiting the coastal area of Dadaepo, Korea. Adults and resting eggs of copepods were collected bi-monthly with a conical net (45 cm mouth diameter, $330{\mu}m$ mesh size) and van Veen grab ($0.1m^2$ area), respectively, from October 2016 to September 2017. The species of resting eggs were identified using mtCOI gene. The mean abundance of copepods was highest in October ($3686{\pm}1190inds{\cdot}m^{-3}$) and lowest in January ($176{\pm}60inds{\cdot}m^{-3}$) with the dominance of Paracalanus parvus s.l.. Among copepod producing resting eggs, Acartia omorii and Centropages abdominalis were dominant. The mean abundance of resting eggs was the highest in July ($9148{\pm}6787eggs{\cdot}m^{-2}$) and the lowest in October ($530{\pm}348eggs{\cdot}m^{-2}$). Most of the collected resting eggs were identified as A. omorii's. The mean abundances of A. omorii adults and resting eggs were highest in July, and both abundances fluctuated in a similar pattern except in September. In September, A. omorii adults were observed in a state of low abundance, while their resting eggs occurred in a state of high abundance. These results suggest that A. omorii maintain their population by producing a large quantity of resting eggs, particularly diapause eggs, before the seawater temperature rises. These eggs would hatch and be newly recruited to their population when the environmental condition becomes favorable.
The objective of this study was to assess the external and internal quality traits of eggs in wholesale egg market in Colombo, Sri Lanka and the effect of storage period in egg quality traits in the same market after receiving the eggs. First, a total of 482 fresh eggs were randomly collected from the above market and external egg quality traits were determined and recorded according to the definitions given in the Specification for Chicken Egg SLS 959:1992. After that, a total of 288 fresh eggs were randomly collected and various external and internal egg quality traits were measured and recorded according to the standard procedures over a storage period of 1, 3 and 5 d after receiving the fresh eggs to the wholesale market. Information about the shops was also collected using a pretested questionnaire. Using the recorded data, shape index, Haugh unit, albumen index and yolk index were calculated for each egg. Average weight, width, length and shape index of the eggs in the sample was 59.96 g, 4.33 cm, 5.78 cm and 75.03, respectively. Average shape index value was much closer to the standard value of 74. From the total sample 80.5% eggs had a normal and sound shape. However only 60.37% of the eggs are in the desirable quality range specified in SLS 959:1992, when the overall shell quality of the sample is considered based on shell cleanliness, defects and shape. The results of the current study indicated that eggs had significant (p<0.05) deterioration of all internal quality parameters tested with increasing storage time. However the effect was not significant (p>0.05) between the storage periods of 3 and 5 d after receiving eggs except for yolk color and yolk height. Desirable category of eggs had reduced and rejections had increased with the storage period. Main problems associated with the particular market were less space availability, higher percentages of dirty eggs, unavailability of proper packaging materials, no standard packaging system for eggs, and not implementing a standard grading system for eggs. Therefore the results of this study suggest that proper egg handling and storage conditions such as low temperature storage may be implemented to increase the proportion of desirable quality eggs in the above market.
This study was conducted to determine the effects of a 0.5% sodium alginate eggshell coating, that was applied at two temperatures, 5 and $25^{\circ}C$, by examining the degree of microbial inhibition on the eggshell surface as well as the coating's effects on egg quality during storage. A significant portion of human Salmonella enteritidis infection is traced to food contamination, and eggs are often highly exposed to this type of contamination. The 0.5% sodium alginate coating's effect for inhibiting microbial growth on the eggs, at $25^{\circ}C$ for 7 days, was one hundred thousand times more effective than that of the uncoated eggs. The pH level in eggs increases as the eggs lose $CO_2$ and as the storage temperature increases. We found that the pH of the coated eggs was lower than that of the uncoated eggs. The pH for the uncoated eggs changed from 7.72 to 7.94 over 30 days of storage at $5^{\circ}C$. However, when the eggs were coated with 0.5% sodium alginate, the pH changed from 7.72 to 7.85 over 30 days of storage at $5^{\circ}C$. The Haugh unit was 66.02 for the uncoated eggs and 70.37 for the 0.5% sodium alginate coated eggs after 30 days of storage. The yolk index of the eggs coated with sodium alginate was higher than that of the uncoated eggs after 30 days. These results indicate that a sodium alginate coating on eggs can serve as protection from microbes and is effective in preserving the interior quality of eggs.
Today most of farmers rear the silkworms two time a year, spring and autumn (Fig. 1). But from now on, we can rear whenever mulberry tree is grown, and it is expected that we can rear many times (Fig.2). Because the silkworm eggs can not always be hatched, we have to study a special method for rearing many times a year. The writer, in these problems, hatched the silkworm eggs from the beginning of June to the beingning of September, once every 10 days, and reard 10 times. The results are as follows; 1) The silkworm eggs for the beginning and middle of June have no difference between the double cooling method and the single cooling method. But the eggs for the end of June in the double cooling method is better. 2) For the silkworm eggs for the middle of July, the cooling method after acid treatment for eggs is better. 3) For the silkworm eggs for the end of July, the reeling method after acid treatment is better. But it is needed to study the short artificial treatment. 4) For the eggs for the beginning of August, the further study of the short artificial treatment is also needed. 5) For the eggs for the middle of August, after cooling treatment is better. The short artificial treatment is possible for them. But further study is needed. 6) For the eggs for the beginning of September, after cooling treatment is needed for further study.
To evaluate the effects of pesticides to parasite eggs, Ascaris suum eggs were incubated with 5 different pesticides (1:1,500-1:2,000 dilutions of 2% emamectin benzoate, 5% spinetoram, 5% indoxacarb, 1% deltamethrin, and 5% flufenoxuron; all v/v) at $20^{\circ}C$ for 6 weeks, and microscopically evaluated the egg survival and development on a weekly basis. The survival rate of A. suum eggs incubated in normal saline (control eggs) was $90{\pm}3%$ at 6 weeks. However, the survival rates of eggs treated with pesticides were 75-85% at this time, thus significantly lower than the control value. Larval development in control eggs commenced at 3 weeks, and $73{\pm}3%$ of eggs had internal larvae at 6 weeks. Larvae were evident in pesticide-treated eggs at 3-4 weeks, and the proportions of eggs carrying larvae at 6 weeks ($36{\pm}3%-54{\pm}3%$) were significantly lower than that of the control group. Thus, pesticides tested at levels similar to those used in agricultural practices exhibited low-level ovicidal activity and delayed embryogenesis of A. suum eggs, although some differences were evident among the tested pesticides.
