토종 종계 이면교배조합 시험에 따른 생산능력 및 잡종강세효과 (Production Performances and Heterosis Effects of Korean Native Chicken Breed Combinations by Diallel Crossing Test)

  • 본 연구는 국산 신품종 토종닭을 개발하기 위하여 국내 토종닭 GPS 계통들을 대상으로 $5{\times}5$이면 교배조합 시험을 실시하여 교배조합별 성적을 토대로 최적의 종계 조합을 선발하고자 하였다. 총 25개 교배조합의 암컷 1,157수를 대상으로 주요 생산능력인 생존율, 체중, 시산일령, 난중, 일계산란율 및 산란지수를 조사하고 분석하였으며, 각 조합별 형질들의 잡종강세효과도 추정하였다. 분석 결과, 성계의 평균 생존율은 순계구가 67.7%, 교잡구가 77.1%로 나타났다. 체중 측정 결과, 이들 25개 조합은 뚜렷한 3개의 그룹 즉, 9개의 고체중구, 12개의 중체중구 및 4개의 저체중구로 구분되었다. 12주령 평균 체중은 고체중구는 $1,873.8{\pm}43.0g$, 중 체중구는 $1,595.4{\pm}56.6g$, 저 체중구는 $1,152.7{\pm}24.7g$이었으며, 순계구는 $1,560.2{\pm}339.3g$, 교잡구는 $1,640.9{\pm}213.7g$이었다. 산란능력에 있어 시산일령은 순계구는 $139.7{\pm}4.9$일, 교잡구는 $135.8{\pm}5.1$일이었고, 평균 난중은 순계구에서 $52.3{\pm}1.6g$, 교잡구는 $53.0{\pm}1.6g$이었다. 20주령부터 40주령까지의 산란지수는 순계구가 $58.3{\pm}12.9$개, 교잡구는 $69.2{\pm}10.4$개였다. 잡종강세 효과 추정에 있어 전체 조합에 대한 평균 생존율은 16.9%, 12주 체중은 5.4%, 시산일령은 -2.7%, 난중은 1.3% 및 일계 산란율은 14.3%의 잡종강세율을 나타내었다. 전반적으로 생존율 및 산란형질들의 잡종강세 효과가 성장형질에 비해 높게 나타났다. 이상을 종합할 때 최적의 실용계 생산을 위하여 부계통으로는 우수한 성장능력을 가진 HF 조합구의 선정이 바람직하고, 모계통으로는 우수한 산란능력을 가진 GW 및 FW 조합구의 선정이 바람직하리라 예측된다.

먹이종류에 따른 Rotifer, Brachionus calyciflorus Pallas의 내구란 생산 및 부화율 (Production and Hatching Rate of Resting Egg of freshwater Rotifer, Brachionus calyciflorus Pallas fed the Different Diets)

  • 담수산 rotifer, B. calycinoms를 대상으로 5 종류의 먹이 (ESP, 담수산 농축 Chlonlla, 빵효모 단독구와 $ESP 70{\%}와 담수산 농축 Chlorella 30{\%} 혼합구 및 빵효모 30{\%}와 담수산 농축 Chlorella 70{\%}$ 혼합구)에 대한 내구란 생산과 먹이종류에 따라 생산된 내구란의 부화율을 조사하였다. 먹이 종류에 따른 내구란 생산은 $ESP 70{\%}$와 담수산 농축 Chlorella 30{\%}$ 혼합구와 빵효모 30{\%}$와 담수산 농축 Chlorells 70{\%}$ 혼합구에서 각각 123.3 개/ml와 126.7 개/ml로 가장 높게 나타났고, 단독구보다 혼합구에서 높게 나타났다. 또한 먹이에 따른 내구란의 부화율은 $ESP 70{\%}$와 담수산 농축 Chlorella $30{\%}$ 혼합구에서 $71.9{\%}$로 가장 높았지만 빵효모 $30{\%}$와 담수산 농축 Chlonlla $70{\%}$ 혼합구 및 담수산 농축 Chlorella 단독구와는 유의적인 차이는 보이지 않았다. 본 연구 결과, 담수산 rotifer의 내구란 생산 및 부화율을 높이기 위한 먹이로 담수산 농축 Chlorella에 빵효모와 ESP를 혼합하여 공급하는 것이 가장 효과적인 것으로 판단된다.

  • The egg's interior quality is one of the most important criteria for commercial producers and consumers. Internal quality is complex, including aesthetic factors such as taste, freshness, nutritional and processing values, and the genetic influences upon these upon these factors ranges from none to considerable. The rate of cholesterol synthesis in the hen is very high compared to other animals and humans. Genetic selection, diet drugs and other chemicals can alter cholesterol concentration in the plasma of laying hen, but attempts to manipulate the cholesterol concentration in the egg yolk are generally unsuccessful since the cholesterol can only be changed to a small extent. Factors which may affect the degree of pigmentation of the yolk include the type of xanthophyll and its concentration in the feed, the feed composition, and the health of the hen. Several feed ingredients interact with carotenoid pigment to improve or reduce their deposition rates in yolks. Egg weight is determined by genetics, body size prior to first egg housing density, environmental temperature, lighting program, total feed consumption, calcium, phosphorus, niacin, water, methionine, total sulfur amino acids, energy, linoleic acid, fat and protein levels. Eggs need to be promote levels. Eggs need to be promoted a versatile commodity and new processed egg items need to be developed. Organic eggs are laid by hens which were raised in chemical and drug frdd environments. There are still difficulties in producing these eggs due to the availability of organic poultry feeds and cost of organic grains.

산란계 주령과 계란 난각 형태이상 정도가 내부품질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Age of Laying Hens and Grade of Egg Shell Abnormality on Internal Egg Quality)

  • 본 연구는 산란계의 주령 및 난각의 형태이상 및 이상 정도가 내부품질에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위해 실시되었다. 동일 주령의 산란계 2계군에서 56주령부터 62주령 사이에 산란한 계란 21,000개 중 각 주별 1,000개를 무작위 추출하여 축산물품질평가사가 정상란과 형태 이상란을 구분하였다. 각각의 출현율과 할란검사를 실시하여 내부품질을 조사한 결과 전체적으로 정상란은 81.22%, 이상란은 18.78%의 출현율을 보였다. 주령의 증가에 따른 이상란의 출현율은 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았으며(p>0.05), Haugh unit은 60주령이 56주령에 비해 높게 나타났으며 그 외에는 차이가 없었다. 동일 주령대를 비교했을 경우 난백고와 Haugh unit은 형태 이상란이 낮고 또한 이상의 정도가 심한 경우 더 낮게 측정되는 결과를 보였다(p<0.05). 특히 이상란 중 기형란의 난고와 Haugh unit이 현저하게 낮은 결과를 보여 이상란 중에서도 기형란이 내부 품질이 가장 낮게 판명되었다. 결과를 종합해 보면 56~62주령 산란계로부터 생산된 계란의 외형적 이상은 내부품질의 저하와 밀접하게 상관한다고 볼 수 있으며, 현 계란 등급판정 체계에서 외관판정은 신선도 평가에 근거가 될 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

Effect of Cool Drinking Water on Production and Shell Quality of Laying Hens in Summer

  • Feed intake, egg weight, rate of lay and shell quality characteristics were measured in an Australian tinted egg laying strain from 31-42 weeks of age, housed at $30^{\circ}C$ and provided drinking water at 5, 10, 17 and $30^{\circ}C$. In a second experiment a European brown egg laying strain (59-66 weeks of age) housed at $30^{\circ}C$ were provided drinking water at 5, 10, 15 and $30^{\circ}C$. Brown egg layers given cool drinking water (5, 10 and $15^{\circ}C$) consumed more (p<0.05) feed and produced significantly (p<0.05) thicker and heavier shells than hens given drinking water at ambient temperature ($30^{\circ}C$). However the tinted egg layers given chilled drinking water only consumed more (p<0.05) feed and produced thicker (p<0.05) and heavier (p<0.05) shells when consuming drinking water at $5^{\circ}C$. As the tinted egg layers acclimatised to the environmental temperature there was a decline in the influence of cool drinking water on feed intake and shell quality. For brown egg layers, however, cool drinking water resulted in an improvement (p<0.05) in feed intake and shell quality over the entire period birds were provided cool water. These studies suggest that there is potential for using cool drinking water to improve feed intake and shell quality of hens housed under hot conditions. The combination of high ambient temperature and high drinking water temperature, a common occurrence in Australian layer sheds, should be avoided.

Effects of Dietary Chromium Picolinate on Performance, Egg, Quality, Serum Traits and Mortality Rate of Brown Layers

  • This experiment was conducted with total 960 brown layers, consisted of 8 treatment to investigate the effects of dietary chromium as chromium picolinate on egg production, egg quality, nutrient utilizability, serum traits and mortality in brown layers. Layers were fed diets with two levels of dietary protein (14% and 16%) and supplemented with 0, 200, 400, 800 ppb/kg of chromium as chromium picolinate, respectively. The highest egg production, egg weight and egg mass were found in 800 ppb chromium picolinate supplementation group with high protein level (16%) (p < 0.05). Although there was no significant difference, layers receiving 400 ppb of chromium picolinate with high protein (16%) represented the lowest broken eggs. The utilization of energy, dry matter and crude protein of 400 ppb chromium picolinate group with low protein level (14%) were significantly higher than those of control or other chromium picolinate group (p < 0.05). 400 ppb chromium picolinate with low protein level (14%) showed the lowest serum glucose concentration. But serum glucose concentrations in all treatments showed no significant differences. Present date revealed that the lowest serum cholesterol concentration of layers was found at 400 ppb chromium picolinate group with high protein level (16%) (p < 0.05). Crude protein content in yolk was significantly higher in eggs of layers received 800 ppb chromium picolinate and the lowest in eggs from layers received 400 ppb chromium picolinate among chromium picolinate levels (p < 0.05). Mortality was remarkably decreased by chromium picolinate supplementation and the lowest mortality value was found in layres receiving 800 ppb chromium picolinate with high protein level.

난황 Cholesterol함량에 대한 유전적 모수 추정 (Estimate of Genetic Parameters for Egg Yolk Cholesterol Content)

  • 본 연구는 난황내 Cholesterol함양이 낮은 계통을 육성하기 위한 기초자료를 얻기 위하여 수행되었다. 실험에 이용된 공시재료는 White Leghorn계통의 53주령 된 473마리의 산난계에서 연적산란 된 3개의 알을 이용하였다. 각 알은 난황무게가 측정된 후 냉동 건조시켜 분석될 때까지 냉동고에 보관되었으며 분석된 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 난황 Cholesterol함양은 평균 난황건물 g당 $56.00\pm$0.914 mg이었다. 2. 난황 Cholesterol함양의 유전력은 Sire분산성분만으로 추정된 것은 0.52, Sire+Dam의 분산성분에 의한 것이 0.33으로 추정되었다. 3. 20주령체중, 초산일령, 총산난수, 산난율, 53주령난중, 53주령 난황무게와 난황 Cholesterol함양과의 표현형상관은 각각 -0.028,-0.0321, -0.0378, -0.0834, 0.0790, 0.1624로 나타났고, Sire성분에 의한 유전상관은 각각 -0.5293, 0.7105, -0.4062, -0.0254, 0.2164, 0.5027로 나타났다. 4. 본 연구의 결과를 종합해볼 때 난황 Cholesterol함양이 낮은 쪽으로 선발이 가능하며 이렇게 할 경우 초산일령 앞당길 수 있으며 총산난수를 증가시켜 높은 산난율을 얻을 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid as a Key Regulator of Performance, Lipid Metabolism, Development, Stress and Immune Functions, and Gene Expression in Chickens

  • It has been well documented from animal and human studies that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has numerous beneficial effects on health. In chickens, CLA exerts many effects on performance ranging from egg quality and yolk lipids to meat quality. Although there are several CLA isomers available, not all CLA isomers have the same incorporation rates into egg yolk: cis-9,trans-11 and trans-10,cis-12 CLA isomers are more favorably deposited into egg yolk than other isomers investigated, but of the two isomers, the former has a higher incorporation rate than the latter. CLA alters the amounts and profiles of lipids in plasma, muscles and liver. Furthermore, increased liver weight was reported in chickens fed dietary CLA. As observed in egg yolk, marked reduction in intramuscular lipids as well as increased protein content was observed in different studies, leading to elevation in protein-to-fat ratio. Inconsistency exists for parameters such as body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, egg production rate and mortality, depending upon experimental conditions. One setback is that hard-cooked yolks from CLA-consuming hens have higher firmness as refrigeration time and CLA are increased, perhaps owing to alterations in physico-chemistry of yolk. Another is that CLA can be detrimental to hatchability when provided to breeders: eggs from these breeders have impaired development in embryonic and neonatal stages, and have increased and decreased amounts of saturated fatty acids and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), respectively. Thus, both problems can be fully resolved if dietary sources rich in MUFAs are provided together with CLA. Emerging evidence suggests that CLA exerts a critical impact on stress and immune functions as it can completely nullify some of the adverse effects produced by immune challenges and reduce mortality in a dose-dependent manner. Finally, CLA is a key regulator of genes that may be responsible for lipid metabolism in chickens. CLA down-regulates both expression of the gene encoding stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 and its protein activity in the chicken liver while up-regulating mRNA of sterol regulatory element-binding protein-l.

Effects of dietary mulberry leaves on growth, production performance, gut microbiota, and immunological parameters in poultry and livestock: a systematic review and meta-analysis

  • Objective: This study aimed to assess the effects of dietary mulberry leaves on the growth, production performance, gut microbiota, and immunological parameters of poultry and livestock. Methods: The PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases were systematically analyzed to identify pertinent studies up to December 2022. The effects of mulberry leaf diet was assessed using the weighted mean difference, and the 95% confidence interval was calculated using a random-effects model. Results: In total, 18 studies that sampled 2,335 poultry and livestock were selected for analysis. Mulberry leaves improved the average daily gain and reduced the feed/meat ratio in finishing pigs, and the average daily gain and average daily feed intake in chicken. In production performance, mulberry leaves lowered the half carcass weight, slaughter rate, and loin eye area in pigs, and the slaughter rate in chickens. Regarding meat quality in pigs, mulberry leaves reduced the cooked meat percentage, shear force, crude protein, and crude ash, and increased the 24 h pH and water content. In chickens, it increased the drip loss, shear force, 45 min and 24 h pH, crude protein, and crude ash. Mulberry leaves also affect the abundances of gut microbiota, including Bacteroides, Prevotella, Megamonas, Escherichia-Shigella, Butyricicoccus, unclassified Ruminococcaceae, Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Escherichia coli in poultry and livestock. Mulberry leaves at different doses were associated with changes in antioxidant capacity in chickens, and immune organ indexes in pigs. With respect to egg quality, mulberry leaves at different doses improved the shell strength, yolk color, eggshell thickness, and eggshell weight. However, moderate doses diminished the egg yolk ratio and the egg yolk moisture content. Conclusion: In general, dietary mulberry leaves improved the growth, production performance, and immunological parameters in poultry and livestock, although the effects varied at different doses.
