  • It is good to use DEA method as it can measure the efficiency without depending on a specific function like cost function. The method also finds out the most efficient group among the sample groups and gives us a specific number. For example, it shows what kind of factor of inefficient group gives how much input and produces how much output. Originally DEA, which was developed by Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes, allows us not only to measure the relative efficiency of Decision Making Units(DMUs) of non-profit organizations whose success cannot be measured by a single bottom-line figure such as profit but also to integrate several variables, which have different measuring scale, into a single model. Therefore we can use physical scales and financial scales simultaneously in the same model without any transformation process. In this study, price and measurable performance indexes of vehicles are used as input and outputs respectively. The purpose of this study is to propose an effective approach for evaluating the relative efficiency of vehicles and to determine the vehicles have high performance efficiency compared to product cost.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the economic efficiency of the investment for calibrating measurement instruments in manufacturing industries, and to propose the administration scheme of measurement instruments. To investigate the efficieny of calibration, we estimate a multiple regression model composed of variables - product inferiority-rate, calibration rate, etc-, and verify fitness of the model. According to the statistical analysis by LOGIT method, a forecasting model of product inferiority-rate with calibration-related variables is proposed, and its validity is investigated.

  • In distributed replicating server model, providing replicated services is able to improve the performance of providing a service and efficiency for several clients. And, the composition of the server selection algorithm is efficiently able to decrease the retrieval time for replicated data. In this paper, we define the system model that selects and connects the replicated server that provides optimal service using server-side downstream measurement and proposes an applicable algorithm.

Evaluation of a Fungal Spore Transportation in a Building under Uncertainty

  • A fungal spore transportation model that accounts for the concentration of airborne indoor spores and the amount of spores deposited on interior surfaces has been developed by extending the current aerosol model. This model is intended to be used for a building with a mechanical ventilation system, and considers HVAC filter efficiency and ventilation rate. The model also includes a surface-cleaning efficiency and frequency that removes a portion of spores deposited on surfaces. The developed model predicts indoor fungal spore concentration and provides an indoor/outdoor ratio that may increase or decrease mold growth risks in real, in-use building cases. To get a more useful outcome from the model simulation, an uncertainty analysis has been conducted in a real building case. By including uncertainties associated with the parameters in the spore transportation model, the simulation results provide probable ranges of indoor concentration and indoor/outdoor ratio. This paper describes the uncertainty quantification of each parameter that is specific to fungal spores, and uncertainty propagation using an appropriate statistical technique. The outcome of the uncertainty analysis showed an agreement with the results from the field measurement with air sampling in a real building.

퍼지DEA에 의한 항만의 효율성 및 순위 측정방법: 평균지수변환모형 접근 (A Measurement Way of Seaport Efficiency and Ranking Using Fuzzy DEA: Average Index Transformation Model Approach)

  • 본 연구에서는 첫째, 퍼지DEA모형을 해운항만분야에 이용한 국내외 기존연구들을 간략하게 검토하였으며, 둘째, Campos and Gonzalez(1989), 임성묵(2008)의 평균지수변환모형을 이론적으로 소개하였으며, 셋째, 국내 26개항만을 대상으로 2개의 투입요소(접안능력, 하역능력), 2개의 산출요소(화물처리량, 입출항척수)를 이용하여 평균지수변환모형에 의거하여 효율성을 분석하고 해석하였다. 실증분석결과를 요약해 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일반 투입지향 CCR모형에서는 통영, 고현, 옥포, 속초항이 효율적이었으며, 여수항이 90% 후반의 효율성을 보였다. 둘째, 퍼지DEA 평균지수변환모형에서는 고현, 속초항이 가장 효율적이었으며, 옥포, 여수항은 람다값이 커질수록 효율성이 증가되었다. 또한 완도, 여수, 서귀포항은 람다값이 높아질 수록 효율성수치도 높아졌다. 셋째, 일반적인 투입지향 CCR 모형의 효율성 수치와 평균지수변환법에 의한 효율성수치의 평균순위는 거의 일치하였다. 본 논문이 갖는 정책적인 함의는 국내항만의 정책입안담당자들은 투입요소와 산출요소의 값을 정확히 알지 못하고 애매모호한 수준에서 알고 있을 때, 본 논문에서 사용한 퍼지 DEA 평균지수모형을 이용할 필요성이 있다는 점이다.

  • 여러 가지 실세계 문제들은 마르코프 결정 문제(Markov decision problem) 들로 형식화하여 풀 수 있으나, 풀이 과정의 높은 계산 복잡도 때문에 실세계 문제들을 직접적으로 다루는 데 많은 어려움이 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해 많은 시간적 추상화(Temporal abstraction) 방법들이 제안되어 왔고 이를 자동화하기 위한 여러 방법들 또한 연구되어 왔으나, 이들 방법들은 명시적인 효율성 척도를 갖고 있지 않아 이론적인 성능 보장을 하지 못하는 문제가 있었다. 본 연구에서는 문제의 크기가 커지더라도 좋은 성능이 보장되는 자동적인 시간적 추상화 구현 방법에 대해 제안한다. 이를 위하여 네트워크 척도(Network measurements)를 이용하여 마르코프 결정 문제의 풀이 효율과 상태 궤적 그래프(State trajectory graph)의 위상 특성간의 관계를 분석하고, 네트워크 척도들 중 평균 측지 거리(Mean geodesic distance)가 마르코프 결정 문제의 풀이 성능과 밀접한 관계가 있다는 사실을 알아내었다. 이 사실을 기반으로 하여, 낮은 평균 측지 거리를 보장하는 복잡계망 모델(Complex network model)을 사용하여 시간적 추상화를 만들어 나가는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 사실적인 3차원 게임 환경을 비롯한 여러 문제에 대해 테스트되었고, 문제 크기의 증가에도 불구하고 효율적인 풀이 성능을 보여 주었다.

  • This paper presents contactless power supply systems using the Valtchev model in transportation systems. The major drawback of contactless systems is that the efficiency is lower than that of contact systems. The coupling coefficient of the contactless transformer is the most influential parameter on the system efficiency. Here, a new computer model for the contactless transfer system developed in the Korea Railroad Research Institute is presented. Also, simulations of the old model and the new model are compared with the prototype measurement to assure the model validity.

Field monitoring of wind effects on a super-tall building during typhoons

  • This paper presents the field measurement results of wind effects on a super-tall building (CITIC Plaza, 391 m high) located in Guangzhou. The field data such as wind speed, wind direction and acceleration responses were simultaneously and continuously recorded from the tall building by a wind and vibration monitoring system during two typhoons. The typhoon-generated wind characteristics including turbulence intensity, gust factor, peak factor, turbulence integral length scale and power spectral density of fluctuating wind speed were presented and discussed. The dynamic characteristics of the tall building were determined based on the field measurements and compared with those calculated from a 3D finite element model of the building. The measured natural frequencies of the two fundamental sway modes of the building were found to be larger than those calculated. The damping ratios of the building were evaluated by the random decrement technique, which demonstrated amplitude-dependent characteristics. The field measured acceleration responses were compared with wind tunnel test results, which were found to be consistent with the model test data. Finally, the serviceability performance of the super-tall building was assessed based on the field measurement results.

An Integrated Approach to Measuring Supply Chain Performance

  • Chan and Qi (SCM 8/3 (2003) 209) developed an innovative measurement method that aggregates performance measures in a supply chain into an overall performance index. The method is useful and makes a significant contribution to supply chain management. Nevertheless, it can be cumbersome in computation due to its highly complex algorithmic fuzzy model. In aggregating the performance information, weights used by Chan and Qi-which aim to address the imprecision of human judgments-are incompatible with weights in additive models. Furthermore, the default assumption of linearity of its scoring procedure could lead to an inaccurate assessment of the overall performance. This paper addresses these limitations by developing an alternative measurement that takes care of the above. This research integrates three different approaches to multiple criteria decision analysis (MCDA)-the multiattribute value theory (MAVT), the swing weighting method and the eigenvector procedure-to develop a comprehensive assessment of supply chain performance. One case study is presented to demonstrate the measurement of the proposed method. The performance model used in the case study relies on the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model level 1. With this measurement method, supply chain managers can easily benchmark the performance of the whole system, and then analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of the supply chain.

백색 발광다이오드에서의 혼합 형광체 모델링 (Modeling of Mixed Phosphors in White Light Emitting Diode)

  • An optical model is proposed in the white LED using phosphor and LED chip. In this paper a new model that describes the absorption rate and quantum efficiency with increasing the mixing ratio of phosphor in silicone, and the allotment of the phosphor absorption optical power in the several phosphor mixing in the silicone. Single phosphor in silicone from the optical measurement data before and after molding, the solution to get the blue optical power and the phosphor emission optical power is proposed. By these solution the absorption rate and the quantum efficiency was obtained. The model with single phosphor mixing in the silicone the validity was confirmed.
