  • We discuss simulation results concerning the performance of the TCP protocol when running over high-speed HFC networks. Hybrid Fiber Coaxial are likely to provide fast and cost effective sup-port to a variety of applications including Video on demand, interactive computer games, and internet-type applications such as Webbrowsing, ftp, and telephony. Since most of these applications, use TCP as the transport later protocol, the key to their success largely depends on the effectiveness of the TCP protocol. In all simulation scenarios the TCP traffic is maxed with some background traffic whose level is taken as a variable parameter. Both the background traffic and TCP traffic are either unshaped, or shaped according to the GCRA algorithm. The effect of the background traffic on the TCP protocol performance is discussed varying the buffering capacity with nodes as well as the peak bit rate that each TCP connection is allowed to use.

Neural network predictive PID controller produced parameter of PID controller using neural network self-tuner. Neural network self-tuner's input used crane's output and neural network predictive output. Neural network self-tuner using error back propagation algorithm. We analyzed control performance comparison through computer simulation when applied disturbance about sway of location and angle in transfer of crane. The results show that the proposed neural network predictive PID controller has better performances than general PID controller, neural network PID controller.

  • A non-conservative robust Kalman filter (NCRKF) is applied to flight data to identify the aerodynamic derivatives of an unmanned autonomous vehicle (UAV). The NCRKF is formulated using UAV lateral motion data and then compared with results from the conventional Kalman filter (KF) and the recursive least square (RLS) method. A superior performance for the NCRKF is demonstrated by simulation and real flight data. The NCRKF is especially effective in large uncertainties in vehicle modeling and in measuring flight data. Thus, it is expected to be useful in missile and aircraft parameter identification.

  • This paper proposes a framework for determining the minimum load shedding for restoring solvability. The framework includes a continuation power flow (CPF) and an optimal power flow (OPF). The CPF parameterizes a specified outage from a set of multiple contingencies causing unsolvable cases, and it traces the path of solutions with respect to the parameter variation. At the nose point of the path, sensitivity analysis is performed in order to achieve the most effective control location for load shedding. Using the control location information, the OPF for locating the minimum load shedding is executed in order to restore power flow solvability. It is highlighted that the framework systematically determines control locations and the proper amount of load shedding. In a numerical simulation, an illustrative example of the proposed framework is shown by applying it to the New England 39 bus system.

  • The paper presents the software control of a brush-less do motor with parameter identification. Not only speed and current controls but also a real-time identification of the motor parameters can be implemented by software using the digital signal processor TMS320F240. The DSP Controller TMS320F240 from Texas Instruments is suitable for a wide range of motor drives TMS320F240 provides a single chip solution by integrating on-chip not only a high computational power but also all the peripherals necessary for electric motor control. This new family of DSPs enables single chip, cost effective, modular and increased performance solutions for BLDC drives. The present paper describes how a speed controlled brushless DC drive can be implemented using TMS320F240 and what kind of results can be achieved.

  • Design & Operation of power system for meeting increase of electric power demand is becoming more difficult and complex. One of reasons is increase of fault current. As one of the most effective methods for suppressing the fault current, installation of SFCL is expected. This paper describes a method of fault analyses of power system with SFCLs, and also discusses determination of specification of SFCLs, effects of limiting the fault current due to SFCLs by use of the model system of two - bus electric power system with parallel circuit model transmission line. Also, describes the definition of six specific parameters of SFCL for power system application & a proposal of design method of specific parameter of a resistance type SFCL in overhead transmission lines considering operation of protective relays.

  • In this paper, we construct the on-line model structure for the nonlinear process systems using the adaptive fuzzy-neural network. Adaptive fuzzy-neural network usually consists of two distinct modifiable structure, with both, the premise and the consequent part. These two parts can be adapted by different optimization methods, which are the hybrid learning procedure combining gradient descent method and least square method. To achieve the on-line model structure, we use the recursive least square method for the consequent parameter identification of nonlinear process. We design the interface between PLC and main computer, and construct the monitoring and control simulator for the nonlinear process. The proposed on-line modeling to real process is carried out to obtain the effective and accurate results.

  • A mathematical model using local thermodynamic equilibrium isotherms for adsorption in encapsulated adsorbent is proposed in order to optimize the design parameters in situ bioproduct separation process. The model accurately follows the experimental data on the adsorption of berberine, secondary metabolite produced in Thaictrum rugosum plant cell culture. The adsorption rate on encapsulated adsorbent is compared with that on alginate-entrapped adsorbent. The result shows that the higher loading capacity in encapsulated adsorbent is mainly due to the increase in the maximum solid phase concentration. Based on the adsorption rate and loading capacity, the encapsulated adsorbent would be more useful than the entrapped adsorbent when used in situ bioproduct separation process. Design parameters in situ bioproduct separation process, such as the size of the capsule, membrane thickness, the ratio of capsule volume to bulk volume, the ratio of single capsule volume to total capsule volume and the adsorbent content in the capsule, are evaluated by using the model. The ratio of single capsule volume to total capsule volume is the most effective parameter for adsorption of berberine on encapsulated adsorbent.

  • The aim of this paper is to propose a cubic convergent regula falsi iterative method for solving the nonlinear equation f(x) = 0, where f : [a,b] $\subset$ R $\rightarrow$ R is a continuously differentiable. In [3,6] a quadratically convergent regula falsi iterative methods for solving this nonlinear equations is proposed. It is shown there that both the sequences of diameters and iterative points sequence converge to zero simultaneously. So The aim of this paper is to accelerate further the convergence of these methods from quadratic to cubic. This is done by replacing the parameter p in the iteration of [3,5,6] by a function p(x) defined suitably. The convergence analysis is carried out for the method. The method is tested on number of numerical examples and results obtained shows that our methods are better and more effective and comparable to well-known methods.

  • This research deals with the nonlocal temperature-dependent dynamic buckling analysis of embedded sandwich micro plates reinforced by functionally graded carbon nanotubes (FG-CNTs). The material properties of structure are assumed viscoelastic based on Kelvin-Voigt model. The effective material properties of structure are considered based on mixture rule. The elastic medium is simulated by orthotropic visco-Pasternak medium. The motion equations are derived applying Sinusoidal shear deformation theory (SSDT) in which the size effects are considered using Eringen's nonlocal theory. The differential quadrature (DQ) method in conjunction with the Bolotin's methods is applied for calculating resonance frequency and dynamic instability region (DIR) of structure. The effects of different parameters such as volume percent of CNTs, distribution type of CNTs, temperature, nonlocal parameter and structural damping on the dynamic instability of visco-system are shown. The results are compared with other published works in the literature. Results indicate that the CNTs have an important role in dynamic stability of structure and FGX distribution type is the better choice.
