The strength behaviors of Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP) Composites can be greatly influenced by the properties of constitutive materials, the laminate structures, and load conditions etc, accompanied by many uncertainty factors. So the reliability study on FRP is an important subject of research. Many achievements have been made in reliability studies based on the probability theory, but little has been done on the roles played by fuzzy variables. In this paper, a fuzzy reliability model for FRP laminates is established first, in which the loads are considered as random variables and the strengths as fuzzy variables. Then a numerical model is developed to assess the fuzzy reliability. The Monte Carlo simulation method is utilized to compute the reliability of laminas under the maximum stress criterion. In the second part of this paper, a generalized fuzzy reliability model (GFRM) is proposed. By virtue of the fact that there may exist a series of states between the failure state and the function state, a fuzzy assumption for the structure state together with the probabilistic assumption for strength parameters is adopted to construct the GFRM of composite materials. By defining a generalized limit state function, the problem is converted to the conventional reliability formula that enables the first-order reliability method (FORM) applicable in calculating the reliability index. Several examples are worked out to show the validity of the models and the efficiency of the methods proposed in this paper. The parameter sensitivity analysis shows that some of the mean values of the strength parameters have great influence on the laminated composites' reliability. The differences resulting from the application of different failure criteria and different fuzzy assumptions are also discussed. It is concluded that the GFRM is feasible to use, and can provide an effective and synthetic method to evaluate the reliability of a system with different types of uncertainty factors.
Individual management of the animal is the first step towards reaching the goal of precision livestock farming that aids animal welfare. Accurate recognition of each individual animal is important for precise management. Electronic identification of cattle, usually referred to as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), has many advantages for farm management. In practice, however, RFID implementations can cause several problems. Reading speed and distance must be optimized for specific applications. Image processing is more effective than RFID for the development of precision farming system in livestock. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to attempt the identification of cattle by using image processing. The majority of the research on the identification of cattle by using image processing has been for the black-and-white patterns of the Holstein. But, native Japanese and Korean cattle do not have a consistent pattern on the body, so that identification by pattern is impossible. This research aims to identify to Japanese black cattle, which does not have a black-white pattern on the body, by using image processing and a neural network algorithm. 12 Japanese black cattle were tested. Values of input parameter were calculated by using the face image values of 12 cows. The face was identified by the associate neural memory algorithm, and the algorithm was verified by the transformed face image, for example, of brightness, distortion, noise and angle. As a result, there was difference due to a transformation ratio of the brightness, distortion, noise, and angle. The algorithm could identify 100% in the range from -30 to +30 degrees of brightness, -20 to +40 degrees of distortion, 0 to 60% of noise and -20 to +30 degree of angle transformed images.

The vertical displacement of a ship on the basis of the sea level is an important parameter for its stability and control. To indicate the displacement on operating conditions, "draft marks" are carved on the hull of the ship in various ways. One of the methods is welding. The position, shape and size of the marks are specified on the shipbuilding rules by classification societies to be checked by shipbuilders. In most cases, high-skilled workers do the welding along the drawing for the marks and welding bead becomes the marks. But the inaccuracies due to human errors and high labor cost increase the needs for automating the work process of the draft marks. In the preceding work, an indoor robot was developed for automatic marking system on flat surfaces and the work proved that the robot welding was more effective and accurate than manual welding. However, many parts of the hull structure constructed at the outdoor are cowed shapes, which is beyond the capability of the robot developed for the indoor works on the flat surface. The marking on the curved steel surface requiring the 25m elevations is one of the main challenges to the conventional robots. In the present paper, the robot capable of climbing vertical curved steel surfaces and performing the welding at the marked position by effectively solving the problems mentioned earlier is presented.
Liquid desiccant cooling technology can supply cooling by using waste heat and solar heat which are hard to use effectively. For compact and efficient design of a dehumidifier, it is important to sustain sufficient heat and mass transfer surface area for water vapor diffusion from air to liquid desiccant on heat exchanger. In this study, the plate type heat exchanger is adopted which has extended surface, and hydrophilic coating and porous layer coating are adopted to enhance surface wettedness. PP(polypropylene) plate is coated by porous layer and PET(polyethylene terephthalate) non-woven fabric is coated by hydrophilic polymer. These coated surfaces have porous structure, so that falling liquid film spreads widely on the coated surface foaming thin liquid film by capillary force. The temperature of liquid desiccant increases during dehumidification process by latent heat absorption, which leads to loss of dehumidification capacity. Liquid desiccant is cooled by cooling water flowing in plate heat exchanger. On the plate side, the liquid desiccant can be cooled by internal cooling. However the liquid desiccant on extended surface should be moved and cooled at heat exchanger surface. Optimal mixing and distribution of liquid desiccant between extended surface and plate heat exchanger surface is essential design parameter. The experiment has been conducted to verify effective surface treatment and distribution characteristics by measuring wall side flow rate and visualization test. It is observed that hydrophilic and porous layer coating have excellent wettedness, and the distribution can be regulated by adopting holes on extended surface.

In the manufacturing industry fields, thousands of quality characteristics are measured in a day because the systems of process have been automated through the development of computer and improvement of techniques. Also, the process has been monitored in database in real time. Particularly, the data in the design step of the process have contributed to the product that customers have required through getting useful information from the data and reflecting them to the design of product. In this study, first, characteristics and variables affecting to them in the data of the design step of the process were analyzed by decision tree to find out the relation between explanatory and target variables. Second, the tolerance of continuous variables influencing on the target variable primarily was shown by the application of algorithm of decision tree, C4.5. Finally, the target variable, loss, was calculated by a loss function of Taguchi and analyzed. In this paper, the general method that the value of continuous explanatory variables has been used intactly not to be transformed to the discrete value and new method that the value of continuous explanatory variables was divided into 3 categories were compared. As a result, first, the tolerance obtained from the new method was more effective in decreasing the target variable, loss, than general method. In addition, the tolerance levels for the continuous explanatory variables to be chosen of the major variables were calculated. In further research, a systematic method using decision tree of data mining needs to be developed in order to categorize continuous variables under various scenarios of loss function.

Researches on after-sales quality have centered on home electric appliances, figuring out how factors influencing after-sales service quality are causally related to customer's behavioral intentions, via consumer satisfaction as an intermediary parameter In most cases of after-sales service in home electric appliances, upon customer's request, service agents make a visit to where the appliance is installed, and check the product and do repairs. However, in case of a small portable device such as a cell phone, which people carry around at all times, most of the times customers themselves show up at the after-sales center, and demand a check-up and repairs. The main difference here is that the after-sales services are provided when a product can no longer perform its basic function and customer dissatisfaction is already up. In this case, the basic function of a product corresponds to must-be factor according to Kano model. The goal of our research is to identify critical factors for effective and efficient after-sales service, and how to monitor them on a routine basis. In our research, the quality after-sales service consists of three dimensions, interactive quality, result quality, and physical environment quality. We set up variables for each dimension, which would measure from customer's perspective key determining factors in service delivery process. Instead of focusing on customer satisfaction aspect, we focused on how after-sales service factors contribute to addressing customer complaints. Additionally, our future research would aim to verify how customer's behavioral intentions are affected, as the resolution of consumer complaints becomes more successful when adjustment of relevant quality factors improves after-sales service quality.

Optimum concentrations of anesthetic clove oil and anesthetic lidocaine-HCl were determined for a species of adult marine medaka, Oryzias dancena, over a range of salinity conditions, and investigated in a transport simulation experiment by analyzing various water and physiological parameters. Research indicated that the higher the concentration of anesthetic at each salinity, the shorter the anesthesia time at each salinity. At each concentration, fish were anesthetized slower at water salinities over 10 ppt (P<0.05). Anesthesia time at 10 ppt was faster than any other salinity. In 10 ppt salinity, the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations and respiratory frequencies of the clove-oil-administered groups decreased until 48 hours (P<0.05), whereas the $NH_4{^+}$ and $CO_2$ concentrations increased until 48 hours (P<0.05). In same period, the DO, $NH_4{^+}$, and $CO_2$ concentrations and respiratory frequencies all decreased as the clove oil concentration increased (P<0.05). The trends in the DO, $NH_4{^+}$, and $CO_2$ concentrations and respiratory frequencies in the lidocaine-HCl-administered groups were similar to those in the clove-oil-administered groups. In conclusion, clove oil and lidocaine-HCl are effective anesthetics, improving the transportation of the marine medaka. The results from this study will contribute to safe laboratory handling of the marine medaka, which are commonly required by many research studies and experiments.
The adsorption of crystal violet dyes from aqueous solution using the granular activated carbon was investigated. Adsorption experiments were carried out as a function of the adsorbent dose, initial concentration, contact time and temperature. The adsorption characteristic of crystal violet followed Langmuir isotherm. Based on the estimated Langmuir separation factor ($R_L=0.02{\sim}0.106$), this process could be employed as an effective treatment (0 < $R_L$ < 1). The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo second order model. The values of Gibbs free energy (-1.61~-11.66 kJ/mol) and positive enthalpy (147.209 kJ/mol) indicated that the adsorption process is a spontaneous and endothermic reaction. The isosteric heat of adsorption decreased with increasing of surface loading by the limited adsorbent-adsorbate interaction due to increased surface coverage.
The purpose of this study is to develop effective operating process in order to achieve more suitable conditions of Anoxic-Oxic-Anoxic-Stripper(AOAS) SBR through real-time control. To improve the removal efficiency, glucose, methanol and synthetic food waste acid fermentant were added as an external carbon source, In the case of glucose and synthetic food waste acid fermentant, TN, TP were removed to average 86.9%, 73.0% respectively. Methanol was removed to average 64.6%, 55.4% respectively. The synthetic food waste acid fermentant proved to be the most efficient and allowed for the substitution of an external carbon source. The removal rate of $COD_{Cr}$, was approximately 90% at all cases. The results of the study that a correlation between ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential), pH and DO and nitrification or denitrification when an external carbon source is added and when it isn't was showed that ${\Delta}ORP$ is suitable parameter. ORP reacted properly to denitrification (${\Delta}ORP<-10$) and nitrification (${\Delta}ORP<0$). The use of real-time control saved anywhere between 61 and 67 minutes at the anoxic(1) stage and 26 to 52 minutes at the oxic(1) stage. When the time saved from the anoxic(1) and oxic(1) was added to the anoxic(2) stage for the removal efficiency of TN and TP increased from 0.7 to 13.9% and 12 to 35 % respectively.
Several complaints from consumers on red or turbid waters were often filed at the same places although various efforts were made to improve water quality in the drinking water plant. The red water problems were occurred due to corrosion of main water pipe, especially at extremity. The low concentrations of chlorine indicating poor water quality were detected at the problematic location. To solve the poor water quality at the extremity, flushing techniques, i.e., conventional flushing, unidirectional flushing, and continuous flushing, were recently practiced. In this study, effects of conventional flushing on water qualities were examined by comparing turbidity and residual chlorine before and after flushing. In addition, more detailed analyses on water qualities at the tap water were conducted to learn a reduction pattern during flushing. Five items from geographic information system of water distribution were used to obtain a relationship with water quality, washing duration or amounts of washing water. The flushing was effective to meet the National Drinking Water Quality Standard with simple and relatively short time operation. The key operational parameter in flushing was amounts of washing water which should be estimated based on water quality of the consumer's tap water. The positive relationship between the residual chlorine and pipe length implied that detention time in the pipeline was the main cause of the complaints. More experiments on effectiveness of flushing are needed to determine reasonable strategies of flushing.
