  • The purpose of study is to obtain basic but important information for the operation of the greenhouse facility located in the suburb of town. Special emphasis is given on the aspect of energy saving method, which can be easilyapplicable in a practical sense. For this end numerical calculation has been made systematically in order to increase the energy efficiency by the evaluation of the temperature distribution in greenhouse. Major parameters considered are primarily the overall shape of greenhouse together with the various conditions of baffle installion inside greenhouse. Further, the performance of heating system is also carefully compared each other for a number of typical arrangements of heating duct. The performance of the computer program developed in this study is evaluated by the observation of the famous fluid trapping phenomenon occurred in staggered baffle condition in the enclosure of greenhouse. Based on the this study, a number of useful conclusions can be drawn, that is, the installation of baffles are quite effective in energy saving method with a minor modification of facility. Also, it is found that the change of the heating duct system can contribute significantly to the uniform temperature distribution in greenhouse. Further other findings obtained by numerical calculation were not only physically consistent and meaningful but also useful for the determination of optimum condition of practical operation of greenhouse.

  • The development methods which utilize OSSs have been tried as new alternative to solve limits of the previous software developments such as the quality of software, and time and cost of developments. Especially, small and medium companies are suffering from difficulty in applying large-scale development methodology whenever they develop softwares. Therefore, in the current situation that demand for small-scale development methodology is increasing, the methods of utilizing OSSs can become an efficient way to save costs and reduce a development period. Accordingly, analysis of open-source is no fixed procedure or method to utilize open-source for software developments in the field. In this thesis, to solve such problems, we propose the procedures and methods for identifying and selecting suitable open-source, and effective methods for improvement and integration through least modification on the basis of synthesis of existing researches and experiences in development projects. For selection of OSSs, we did identify correct requirements for the software to be developed, investigate the open-source just matching with such requirements, draw a candidate index, establish assessment criteria, and the consequently present a method to select OSSs. And, we deduced the validity and improvement of each detailed activity from practical application to an actual project and assessment.

  • Recent technical advances in the biorecognition engineering and the microparticle fabrication may enable us to develop the single step purification using magnetic particle, because of its simplicity, efficacy, ease of automation, and process economics. In this study, we used commercial magnetic particles from Seradyn, Inc. (Indianapolis, USA). It was ca. 2.8 micron in diameter, consisted of polystyrene core and magnetite coating, and its surface had carboxyl groups. The model, capture protein was IgG and anti-IgG was used as the ligand molecule. We studied the different surfaces ('nude', ester-activated, and anti-IgG coated) for their biorecognition of IgG. At a high pH condition, we could reduce non-specific binding. Also anti-IgG immobilized magnetic particle could capture IgG more selectively. We attempted 'oriented immobilization' of anti-IgG, in which the polysaccharides moiety near the C-terminus was selectively oxidized and linked to the hydrazine-coated MP, to improve the efficacy of biorecognitive binding. Using this method, the IgG capturing ability was improved by ca. 2 fold. From the binary mixture of the IgG-insulin, IgG could be more selectively captured. In summary, the oriented immobilization of oxidized anti-IgG proved to be as effective as the streptavidin-biotin system and yet simpler and cost-effective. This immobilization method can find its applications in protein biochips and biotargeting.

  • Purpose: Most proximal humeral fractures are minimally displaced and can be treated satisfactorily with a conservative method. But in many comminuted fractures, hemiarthroplasty is usually done as a primary treatment. The authors evaluated how much functional improvement was achieved after hemiarthroplasty and which factors influence on the final functional results. Materials and Methods: Eleven hemiarthroplasties were performed for three- and four-part fractures(including fracture-dislocation) between April 1992 and June 1999. There were eight women and three men, and the mean age was 65 years. According to Neer classification, six was three-part fracture and five was four-part fracture. Six patients were injured on their right shoulder and five on the left shoulder. Among the five four-part fractures, three had axillary nerve injury and among the six three-part fractures, only one patient had axillary nerve injury. The average follow-up period was 2.4 years(1 year-7 years) after operation. The functional results were evaluated with the UCLA scoring system(Modification for hemiarthroplasty). In addition to the overall results, we compared the results according to the classification of the fracture, the cause of injury, and whether the axillary nerve was injured. Results: At the last follow-up, average total UCLA score was 18.2. The mean score for pain was 7.0, mean muscle power and motion score was 5.5 and 5.7 respectively. The pain relief was more satisfactory than any other functional results. The average score for three-part fractures was 22, and the average for four-part fractures was 13.6. The average score for the patients fractured by vehicle accidents was 15.3, and 19.3 for the patients fractured by slip-down injury. In patients without axillary nerve injury, the average score was 20, and with axillary nerve injury, the score was 15. Conclusion: Shoulder hemiarthroplasty, for the treatment of proximal humeral fractures, cannot restore the shoulder function to normal, but can achieve the functional result to some degree, especially for the activity of daily living. And as for pain, we think that it is relatively effective measure. And we think that the severer the comminution, the more the chance of axillary nerve injury, and the poorer the functional results. In conclusion, the severity of initial injury seems to be the major prognostic factor.

  • Purpose: Extensive lumbosacral defects after removal of spinal tumors have a high risk of wound healing problems. Therefore it is an effective reconstructive strategy to provide preemptive soft tissue coverage at the time of initial spinal surgery, especially when there is an instrument exposure. For soft tissue reconstruction of a lumbosacral defect, a variation of the gluteal flap is the first-line choice. However, the musculocutaneous flap or muscle flap that is conventionally used, has many disadvantages. It damages gluteus muscle and causes functional disturbance in ambulation, has a short pedicle which limits areas of coverage, and can damage perforators, limiting further surgery that is usually necessary in spinal tumor patients. In this article, we present the superior gluteal artery perforator turn-over flap that reconstructs complex lumbosacral defects successfully, especially one that has instrument exposure, without damaging the ambulatory function of the patient. Methods: A 67 year old man presented with sacral sarcoma. Sacralectomy with L5 corpectomy was performed and resulted in a $15{\times}8\;cm$ sized complex soft tissue defect in the lumbosacral area. There was no defect in the skin. Sacral stabilization with alloplastic fibular bone graft and reconstruction plate was done and the instruments were exposed through the wound. A $18{\times}8\;cm$ sized superior gluteal artery perforator flap was designed based on the superior gluteal artery perforator and deepithelized. It was turned over 180 degrees into the lumbosacral dead space. Soft tissue from both sides of the wound was approximated over the flap and this provided in double padding over the instrument. Results: No complications such as hematoma, flap necrosis, or infection occurred. Until three months after the resection, functional disturbances in walking were not observed. The postoperative magnetic resonance imaging scan shows the flap volume was well maintained over the instrument. Conclusion: This superior gluteal artery perforator turn-over flap, a modification of the conventional superior gluteal artery perforator flap, is a simple method that enabled the successful reconstruction of a lumbosacral defect with instrument exposure without affecting ambulatory function.

  • Conventional slinding genioplsty has the risk of mental nerve injury after operation and difficult to correct vertical asymmetry of chin. So, authors propose a new genioplasty to correct asymmetry of chin. Switching genioplasty is a modification method of conventional genioplasty. Between mandibular right and left canine, osteotomy line of triangular shape make until mandibular lower border. In large side, osteotome line of wedge shape is added to reduction. After osteotomy, segment of wedge shape was separated from chin. Distal segment was rotated to reduction side. Because of rotation of distal segment, space is made in opposite side. Seperated segement of wedge shape from large side is switched this space to fill. So, stability of distal segment is achieved. Authors applied to swiching genioplasty the patients who was remained the chin asymmetry after both sagittal split ramus osteotome was done because mandible asymmetry. After operation, patient and operator were satisfied with excellent esthetic results without any other complication. The switching genioplasty is effective surgical technique for chin asymmetry because it has more advantages than conventional sliding genioplasty. First, other donor side does not need for bone graft. Second, the switching genioplasty can reduce infection, bone resroption, dehiscence, capsular contraction after allograft. Third, have little mental nerve damage. Forth, anteroposterior correction is possible. Fifth, operation time is less than other genioplasty for chin asymmetry.

  • This research was designed to know optimize soil sampling time, soil sampling depth and fertilizers according to season and soil condition in the golf course. One of the results was revealed that sampling point and depth have to be consistent for much fluctuation by sampling. Especially, Soil pH is decreased by soil depth remarkably. Top soil (0-5 cm depth) pH is higher than the sub soils (5-10 cm, 10-15 cm depth). It was confirmed that soil pH would increase when the state of soil is appropriate to H$^{+}$ ion concentration. Therefore, Soil pH modification is always not determined by lime content rather than soil conditions, i.e., Organic matter content, moisture content, and soil air content. More effective fertilizing time according to soil pH correction is the middle of october, and it's quantity is 100 g/$m^2$ silicate and 200 g/$m^2$ lime (Pel-Lime Mini) in this experiment. Recommended soil sampling method for acidity measurement is dividing by soil depth into each 5 cm respectively, rather than mixing 15 cm total soil.

  • Cerebral palsy, a range of non-progressive syndromes of posture and motor impairment, is a common cause of disability in childhood. Self-injurious behavior(SIB) is deliberate harm to the body without suicidal intend, often involving repetitive actions that cause tissue damage. One of the most common orofacial self-injurious behavior is chewing tongue, lip or oral mucosa. This kind of SIB in children is not common in normal children. High occurrence rates are observered in cases of syndromatic, mentally retarded children, and children with congenital disease. Various methods such as behavior modification, behavior control by drugs, body restraints, application of dental appliance, surgery and extraction of teeth have been suggested to control those self-injurious behavior. Using mouthguard as one of dental applainaces is the most conservative and appropriate method in terms of reducing oral self-injurious habits and protection of tissue. This case report describes a child with cerebral palsy who presented with self-injurious ulceration of lip and buccal mucosa. A modified mouthguard was effective in preventing self-injurious oral trauma in a child with cerebral palsy.
