Recently, TOD gains popularity as a traffic solution measure of high density urban regeneration projects. The purpose of this study is to investigate traffic impacts of high density TOD projects, and to identify the issues to be resolved. For a case study, it chooses Gangnamgucheong station in Gangnam area served by two subway lines, and designates 400m radius from the station as a site for high-density development. The MOEs chosen for this study is traffic volume, time, distance, speed, and mode share. The SECOM model is adopted for traffic simulation. The analysis results show that high-density TOD is an effective tool for traffic improvement even with only one station area being implemented. It is found that the traffic volume increases near the station in nature where high-density development occurs, but it declines overall in the rest of Gangam area. The total travel time and distance of passenger vehicles decline, meaning that the traffic condition becomes better than before. With regulation on parking supply, the improvement becomes more vivid. In terms of the changes of traffic speed, both alternatives show 4.1% increase in speed, but the difference between alternatives is not quite noticeable because of the induced vehicle demand driven to the streets with improved traffic condition. The mode share changes occur for the benefit of subway ridership, because the study station is equipped with two subway line services. When mixed with parking supply restriction, the impact becomes clearer.

Single droplet-wall collision heat transfer characteristics on a heated plate above Leidenfrost temperature were experimentally investigated considering the effects of impact velocity. The collision characteristics of the droplet impinged on the heated wall and the changes in temperature distribution were simultaneously measured using synchronized high-speed video and infrared cameras. The surface heat flux distribution was obtained by solving the three-dimensional transient heat conduction equation for the heated substrate using the measured surface temperature data as the boundary condition for the collision surface. As the normal impact velocity increased, heat transfer effectiveness increased because of an increase in the maximum spreading diameter and a decrease in the vapor film thickness between the droplet and heated wall. For We < 30, droplets stably rebounded from a heated wall without breakup. However, the droplets broke up into small droplets for We > 30. The tendency of the heat transfer to increase with increasing impact velocity was degraded by the transition from the rebounding region to the breakup region; this was resulted from the reduction in the effective heat transfer area enlargement due to the breakup phenomenon.
It is a fact that the straightening of track alignment is one of the undoubted ways to improve the train speed on conventional lines, while that requires huge investment resources. Therefore, the operation of a tilting train as well as the minimum improvement of track is suggested as an effective and economical alternative way for the speed-up of conventional lines. Since a driving mechanism of tilting train is different from those of existing trains, in order to make sure its operation safety and stability on conventional line, the performance of track and roadbed must be preferentially evaluated on the conventional line. Furthermore, it is necessary to estimate the tilting-train-induced roadbed response in detail since the roadbed settlement can lead to the track deformation and even derailment. In this research, the patterns of wheel load and lateral force were monitored and analyzed through the field tests, and the derailment coefficient and degree of wheel off-loading were calculated in order to evaluate the tilting train running safety depending on the running speeds (120km~180km) on the conventional line. Moreover, roadbed pressure, settlement and acceleration were also observed as tilting-train-induced roadbed responses in order to estimate the roadbed stability depending on the running speeds. Consequently, the measured derailment coefficient and degree of wheel off-loading were satisfied with their own required limits, and all of the roadbed responses were less than those of existing high-speed train (KTX) over an entire running speed range considered in this study. As a result of this study, the tilting train which will be operated in combination with existing trains is expected to give no adverse impact on the conventional line even with its improved running speed.

The system which is proposed in this paper, supports environments to share codes, execution files and objects between project teams to maximize productivity and efficiency in web environments. Through impact assessment which is achieved at correction and development of existing programming codes by maintenance requirements, it minimizes obstacle occurrence factors and supports tracing obstacle sources. Through conversion the correction and development histories of existing sources and executable files between project teams to XML documents suitable to share in web, it stores them to relational database. In this paper, through impact assessment and change management for the correction and development of applications in the existing system development environments, we support efficient IT developments.

This study was carried out to estimate the emission reduction rates for the regional allowable emissions by special measures to achieve the target air quality in Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA). A modeling system was designed to validate the details in enforcement regulations set up by local governments based on the current status and plans for air quality improvement. Modeling system was composed of meteorological model (MM5), emission model (SMOKE), and air quality model (CMAQ). Predicted results by this system show quiet well not only daily air pollutants concentration but also the tendencies of wind direction, wind speed and temperature. To achieve the target air quality in Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA), emission allowances are estimated by seasons and regions. Referring to the base year 2002, it was estimated that emission reduction rates to achieve the intermediate goal in 2007 were 14.2% and 16.6% for NOx and $PM_{10}$, respectively. It was also estimated that 52% of NOx and 48% of $PM_{10}$ reductions from the base year 2002 would be required to accomplish the air quality improvement goal of 22 ppb for $NO_2$, and $40mg/m^3$ for $PM_{10}$ in year 2014. To improve $NO_2$ and $PM_{10}$ concentration through emissions reduction policies, it was found that emissions reduction for the on-road mobile sources would be the most effective in SMA.

This study aims to investigate the impact of wide use of digital technology, in particular, the Internet, on innovation process and corporate strategy in electronics industry. The introduction of digital technology has changed innovation process, business model and organizational structure of the electronics companies. With the introduction of digital technology, the entire value chain of electronics industry from procurement, sales, and marketing to R&D and manufacturing has been restructured. E-commerce has been a major agenda for e-business. Recently, collaboration among electronics companies through e-marketplace has emerged as an important issue. A web-based e-commerce standard, so called RosettaNet, has been developed for facilitating e-transactions of electronics firms. The development of digital technology has dramatically increased the processing speed and sophisticated the virtual reality technology. As simulation becomes easier and more effective, the uncertainty and risk involved in R&D has decreased significantly. Another positive impact is closer cooperation between R&D and manufacturing functions. Taking advantage of automated and flexible production technology, has a new type of firm, so called, EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) emerged, whose strategic focus is on manufacturing only. The EMS can be seen as a kind of innovative organization, that is, a modular organization for production function. Digital technology has made convergence of computer and communication possible at early years but right now the convergence has been accelerated in extensive areas of communication, broadcasting, information appliances, software, contents, and services. Firms' effort for an innovative product and service has been intensified and the competition for a new standard product and service has become severe in electronics industry. Business activities are always realized in a specific organizational context. Accordingly building up innovation-friendly organization has emerged as a critical concern. Due to the striking decrease of transaction cost, a network type of organization has proliferated, and a business function turns into a modular organization. As a whole, digital technology has pushed electronics firms into developing their own business model, which takes consideration of standardization of business platform and their core competency.

Background: Ice cooling vests can cause tissue damage and have no flexibility. Therefore, these two undesirable properties of ice cooling vest were optimized, and the present study was aimed to compare the impact of the optimized ice cooling vest and a commercial paraffin cooling vest on physiological and perceptual strain under controlled conditions. Methods: For optimizing, hydrogel was used to increase the flexibility and a layer of the ethylene vinyl acetate foam was placed into the inside layer of packs to prevent tissue damage. Then, 15 men with an optimized ice cooling vest, with a commercial paraffin cooling vest, and without a cooling vest performed tests including exercise on a treadmill (speed of 2.8 km/hr and slope of %0) under hot ($40^{\circ}C$) and dry (40 %) condition for 60 min. The physiological strain index and skin temperature were measured every 5 and 15 minutes, respectively. The heat strain score index and perceptual strain index were also assessed every 15 minutes. Results: The mean values of the physiological and perceptual indices differed significantly between exercise with and without cooling vests (P < 0.05). However, the difference of the mean values of the indices except the value of the skin temperature during the exercises with the commercial paraffin cooling vest and the optimized ice cooling vest was not significant (P > 0.05). Conclusions: The optimized ice cooling vest was as effective as the commercial paraffin cooling vest to control the thermal strain. However, ice has a greater latent heat and less production cost.
The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of developed assisting wear which maximize trunk(back) muscle's stretch-shortening effect during backswing and downswing for increasing golf ball carrying distance. Design and fabrication of assistive wear were performed based on the results of analyzed data of trunk EMG activity from the golf drive swings of elite professional male golfers during back swing and downswing phases. After the prototype of wear was produced, surface EMG and Flight scope tests were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the wear for increasing distance to the professional golfers. Results indicated that wearing trial showed significant longer carry distance than the non-wearing trial(p<.001). The carry distance of wearing trial showed an average 229 m compared to the non-wearing trial, the average 225 m. The swing with wearing also produced significantly faster ball speed than the trial without wearing(p<.05). Average 245 Km/h and 244 Km/h were produced for the swing with and without wearing trails, respectively. EMG results also indicated that the muscle activity of left psoas was significantly increased for wearing trial during downswing and near the impact. Thus, this may affect positively to increase club head speed. The activity of the left latissimus dorsi was dramatically increased during the final stage of swing. This generates elongation effect for longer follow-through and increased impulse between club and ball so eventually valid assistance to increase carry distance. Therefore, the developed assisting wear was proved to be effective tool for increasing golf ball carry distance with maximizing trunk(back) muscle's stretch-shortening effect during backswing and downswing.
This paper presents a study on the crashworthiness of the scaled-down stiffened panels used on a Korean icebreaker. In order to validate the crashworthiness of the panels, this paper provides various mechanical properties such as the results of a CVN test, quasi-static tensile test, and high-speed tensile test at arctic temperatures. Two types of steels (EH32 and FH32) were chosen for the material tests. CVN tests revealed that the two steels were equivalent up to −60℃ in terms of their impact energy absorption capacity. However, the toughness of FH32 was significantly superior to that of EH32. EH32 showed slightly higher flow stresses at all temperature levels compared to FH32. The improvement ratios of the yield strengths, tensile strengths, plastic hardening exponents, etc. for FH32, which were obtained from quasi-static tensile tests, showed an apparent ascending tendency with a decrease in temperature. Dynamic tensile test results were obtained for the two temperatures levels of 20℃ and −60℃ with two plastic strain rate levels of 1 s−1 and 100 s−1. A closed form empirical formula proposed by Choung et al. (2011;2013) was shown to be effective at predicting the flow stress increase due to a strain rate increase.
Centrifuge model tests were used to simulate pile-raft composite foundation and pile-geogrid composite foundation with different pile spacing for researching the time effect of negative skin friction of rigid piles in high-speed railways. The research results show that the negative skin friction has a significant impact on the bearing capacity of composite foundation. Pile-raft composite foundation has higher bearing capacity compared to pile-geogrid composite foundation to reduce the effect of negative skin friction on piles. Both the foundation settlement and negative skin friction have significant time effect. The distribution of skin friction can be simplified as a triangle along the pile. The neutral point position moves deeper in the postconstruction stage at larger pile spacing. For pile-geogrid composite foundation, the setting of pile-cap affects the position of neutral point in the post-construction stage. Reinforced cushion with geotextile may promote the better performance of cushion for transmitting the loads to piles and surrounding soils. Arching effect in the cushion of the composite foundation is a progressive process. The compression of the rigid piles contributes less than 20% to 25% of the total settlement while the penetration of the piles and the compression of the bearing stratum below the pile tips contribute more than 70% of the total settlement. Some effective measures to reduce the settlement of soils need to be taken into consideration to improve the bearing capacity of pile foundation.
