  • This paper discusses the feasibility of Ultrasonic Nondestructive Evaluation (UNDE) technique for sport weld quality. Ultrasonic c-scan image assisted by image processing technique was used for Nondestructive Evaluation(NDE) of spot weld quality. Ultrasonic testing results obtained were confirmed and compared by Optical Microscope and SAM(Scanning Acoustic Mircroscope) observation of the spot-weld cross section, The results show that the nugget dinameter can be successfully measured with the accuracy of 0.5mm. It was ascertained that ultrasonic c-scan technique is very effective method for the sake of the approach to the quantitative measurement of nugget diameter and the discrimination of the corona bond from nugget. Additional support for the above conclusions is provided by the results for galvanized steel. The ultrasonic results for galvanized welds generally correspond to the results for uncoated steel. Finally, it was found that the above-mentioned technique can be sufficiently applied to NDE method for securing the Quality Assurance(QA) of spot welded products in production line.

  • This paper deals with the establishment of the cutting direction on inclined plane by using ball end mill. Ball-end milling is widely used for free form surface die and mold. In these machining, the cutting parts vary because the tool tip is hemisphere shaped. The cutting characteristics, such as cutting force, surface roughness and surface profile are varied according to the variation of cutting directions. The effective tool diameter was calculated on different tilt angles and tool-path. Tool life and cutting characteristics were estimated on variation of cutting directions in the same cutting speed. In this paper, the optimal cutting direction which can be applied 3-D sculpture surface cutting is suggested.

  • Recently, Electronic & Electrical Products have problems how to reduce heat in trend reducing size and increasing speed. heat pipes worked by latent heats can solve problems for effective and quiet electronic applications. Heat Pipes have to be suitably designed for the external conditions due to showing optimum performance. it has influence on efficiency of heat pipes to the exterior structure changed by length, bending angle, diameter. Designing heat pipes has depended on experience from trial and error. this method wasted too many resources, but can't guarantee efficiency. to prevent those wastes, this study aims at making the thermal transfer coefficient predicting efficiency. In this study, the thermal transfer coefficient has been made from experimental results that used variables - lengths between heat source and radiation, bending angles, diameters of heat pipes. variables become non-dimensional in modeling process for making the coefficient.

  • Geothermal energy can be used with a geothermal heat pump or an earth-to-air heat exchange system (EAHES), which is referred to as a "cooling tube" in Korea. In this study, we suggest EAHES burial guidelines in terms of the parameters of buried pipe length and air velocity regarding the exit air temperature of EAHES. The exit air temperature for EAHES in three regions (Changwon, Busan and Seoul) was calculated with variation in buried pipe length and air velocity at ${\Phi}100mm$ and ${\Phi}200mm$. In conclusion, variation in the buried pipe length is more effective than that of air velocity to achieve the required exit air temperature.

  • $LiNbO_{3}$ single crystals were grown using a self-designed radio-frequency heating Czochralski crystal grower. Congruently melting composition was used and the optimum growth conditions were established. The compensated power control method was very effective to control the outer diameter of the crystal ingots within ${\pm}5\;%$. Scanning electron microscopy was performed to characterize the effect of the $Mg^{2+}$ ions on the formation of the ferroelectric domain in $LiNbO_{3}$.

  • Tubular members have been applied in a wide range of frame structures including offshore structures. For the efficient load flow in tubular-member structures, the joints of tubular members are usually reinforced using internal ring stiffener for the steel tubular joint having a large diameter. The objective of this paper is to numerically assess the behavior of X-joints with an internal ring stiffener, and to evaluate the reinforcement effect of a ring stiffener, and to establish the strength formulae. Nonlinear finite element analysis is used to compute the static strength of axially loaded tubular joints. From the numerical results, internal ring stiffener is found to be efficient in improving static strength of tubular X-joints. Maximum strength ratios are calculated as 1.5~3.5, and the effective dimensions of ring stiffener are found. Regression analyses are performed considering practical size of ring stiffener and strength estimation formulae are proposed.

  • Nanoparticles of Poly(L-glutamic acid) (PG) conjugated to the anticancer drug paclitaxel and targeted moiety folic acid (FA) were synthesized and characterized in vitro. The nanoparticles were designed to take advantage of FA targeting to folate receptor (FR) positive cancer cells. The chemical composition of the conjugate was characterized by $^1H-NMR$, FTIR and UV/vis spectroscopy. The selective cytotoxicity of the FA-PG-paclitaxel conjugates was evaluated in FR positive cancer cells. The interaction of the conjugate was visualized by fluorescence microscopy with results confirming the successful preparation of the conjugate and the production of nanoparticles of about 200-300 nm in diameter. The amount of paclitaxel conjugated to FA-PG was 25% by weight. Cellular uptake of the conjugate was FA dependent, and the conjugate uptake was mediated specifically by the folate receptor. These results demonstrate the improved selective toxicity and effective delivery of an anticancer drug into FR bearing cells in vitro.

  • This article has tried to review the maximum contact stresses in the contact area of the wheel and rail as a result of lateral movement of the wheel on rail by taking advantage from Hertz theory. Since wheel movement on rail is accompanied by lateral movement due to wheel profile conisity, so the contact point of wheel and rail is not constant and the contact stresses are therefore changeable in every single moment. Since the shape of rail profile and rail inclination, wheel diameter and the mechanical properties of the wheel and rail are effective on the stresses of contact area, these parameters have been studied by applying Hertz theory. This article aims to calculate the contact stresses in different parts on the wheel surface by using Hertz theory.

  • In this study, reduced-scale experiments were conducted to analyze smoke movement in tunnel fires according to vepntilation method. The 1/20 scale experiments were carried out under the Froude scaling using gasoline pool fires ranging from 6.6 to 10 cm in diameter corresponding to total heat release rate from 0.714 to 2.5 kW. Temperatures near the ceiling were lowered by installing the vent, and much lowered by operating fan compared wiht tile case without vent. In case of forced ventilation, the exhaust fan was more effective than the intake fan. Vertical temperatures at the upper part of the tunnel were also lowered by installing the vent. But, when suction fan was operated, temperatures at the lower part of the tunnel were higher than that without vent.

  • In this study the CGS as an injection method by low slump mortar was performed the pilot test to confirm the applicability of this method and the effectiveness of settlement restraint. From the results, there has been concluded the construction control standard such as an institutional diameter, space, depth, injection materials, Infection pressure etc. Also, there has been estimated the ground improvement effectiveness which has resulted from the field investigation and consolidation test etc. From the results, in the adjacent ground the CGS, generally, has been confirmed to in-crease ground strength to improve the consolidation characteristic obtained from the field investigation and consolidation test. Especially, the CGS which performed the larger stiffness to the ground has been concluded that the settlement restraint to the ground complicates the ground effect which Increases the bearing capacity and stress assignment. So, the CGS can be considered as an effective method to increase the bearing capacity as well as the settlement restraint of soft ground.
