  • One method to analyse acoustic modes is proposed to predict the characteristics of acoustic instability in liquid rocket engine. It is based on the similarity between transverse acoustic modes and adopts two-dimensional axisymmetric geometry. Using this method, the first tangential mode in the prototype combustor can be analysed through the analysis of the first radial mode in the model combustor with doubled chamber diameter. Sample numerical calculation is demonstrated applying this method to sample rocket engine and thereby acoustic instabilities of the engine are investigated. The present results show a good agreement with the previous findings. The numerical analysis based on the proposed method is cost-effective and serves as the first approximation to the true solution.

  • Dynamic plastic deformation behavior of copper particles occurred during the cold spray processing was numerically analyzed using the finite element method. The study was to investigate the impact as well as the heat transfer phenomena, happened due to collision of the copper particle of $20{\mu}m$ in diameter with various initial velocities of $300{\sim}600m/s$ into the copper matrix. Effective strain, temperature and their distribution were investigated for adiabatic strain and the accompanying adiabatic shear localization at the particle/substrate interface.

  • This article employs Multivariate Adaptive Regression Spline (MARS) for determination of friction capacity of driven piles in clay. MARS is non-parametric adaptive regression procedure. Pile length, pile diameter, effective vertical stress, and undrained shear strength are considered as input of MARS and the output of MARS is friction capacity. The developed MARS gives an equation for determination of $f_s$ of driven piles in clay. The results of the developed MARS have been compared with the Artificial Neural Network. This study shows that the developed MARS is a robust model for prediction of $f_s$ of driven piles in clay.

  • A 44-year-old woman presented with recurrent, transient episodes of left-side hemiparesis. She had received a radiation dose of 6120 cGy to her cervical region for parotid gland carcinoma 13 years previously. Cerebral angiography revealed a long, irregular tight stenosis involving the right extracranial internal carotid artery [ICA] and common carotid artery [CCA], measuring approximately 90% at the most severe narrowing according to North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial criteria. Endovascular stent placement resulted in restoration of the carotid lumen to about 80% of its original diameter. She showed no further ischemic events during the follow-up period of 48 months. Our clinical and angiographic findings suggest that carotid stenting is considered a safe and effective treatment option in patients with radiation-induced carotid stenosis.

  • The dielectric resonators(DRs) with dielectric properties are widely used in microwave integrated circuit(MICs) and monolithic microwave integrated circuits(MMICS). The variational method as numerical simulation scheme would be applied to calculate the resonant frequencies(fr) and Q-factors of microwave dielectric resonators. The dielectric resonator with a cylindrical “puck” structure of high dielectric material is modeled in this simulation. The parameters, such as the diameter, the height, and the dielectric constant of dielectric resonator, would determine the resonant frequency and the Q-factor. The relationship between these parameters would effect each other to evaluate the approximate resonant frequency. This simulation method by the variational formula is very effective to calculate fr, and Q-factor. in high frequency microwave dielectric resonator The error rate of the simulation results and the measured results would be considered to design the microwave dielectric resonators.

  • There have been many studies for the flow through internally finned tube, since the heat exchangers with fin device derive much attention in heat transfer enhance cent. In this study, analysis of laminar flow through the circular tube with longitudinal fins are investigated. The height and the number of fins are arbitrary. The flow field is assumed to be laminar and conformal mapping is used to obtain analytic solution. From the analytic solution, equi-velocity lines are shown, and the flow rate through the finned tube is calculated for various fin heights and numbers of fins. Darcy friction factor for this finned tube and shear stress distributions on the wall and fin are also considered.

  • The 3-dimensional(3D) chip stacking technology is one of the leading technologies to realize a high density and high performance system in package(SIP). It could be found that it is the advanced process of through-hole via formation with the minimum damaged on the Si-wafer. Laser ablation is very effective method to penetrate through hole on the Si-wafer because it has the advantage that formed under $100{\mu}m$ diameter through-hole via without using a mask. In this paper, we studied the optimum method for a formation of through-hole via using femto-second laser heat sources. Furthermore, the processing parameters of the specimens were several conditions such as power of output, pulse repetition rate as well as irradiation method and time. And also the through-hole via form could be investigated and analyzed by microscope and analyzer.

  • MTS(Monobloc Tube Shaft) has been used for the reduction in weight of shaft and increase in supply of power in the auto industry nowadays. Cold drawing process having high productivity and reduction in the cost has been regarded as the effective technology that is able to substitute for swaging process as forming MTS with constant outer diameter or hollow shaft without surface defects. The objective of this study is not only to (md out the optimal process conditions understanding the effect of process parameters on carrying out cold drawing process of SIS(Steering Input Shaft) but also to control the defects resulted from inappropriate process conditions. Therefore, the proper drawing conditions are presented using FE-Analysis and experiment in the paper.

  • The design parameters to affect the cooling capacity of a cryocooler were examined with the application of numerical modeling to optimize an inertance pulse tube cryocooler. This modeling includes the regenerator, pulse tube, inertance tube, gas reservoir, and heat exchangers. One-dimensional modeling on strings of acoustic and thermoacoustic elements was applied to compare the design parameters. The diameter and length of the pulse tube can significantly affect the cooling capacity and efficiency. The aftercooler was optimized by maintaining a certain size. The efficiency also improved as the length of inertance tube and volume of gas reservoir are increased. It was confirmed that effective design parameters are critical to the performance of an inertance pulse tube cryocooler considering the comparison of the dimensions of each part to optimize its cooling power and efficiency.

  • The spinning is a very effective manufacturing technology for short production runs in a variety of sizes and shapes, because it can form the cross-section or tubular parts various shapes. However extensive experimental and analytical research has not been carried out. In this study, and fundamental experiment was conducted to improve productivity with process parameter such as tool path, angle of roller holder(a), feed rate(v) and corner radius of forming roller(Rr). These factors were selected as variables in the experiment because they were most likely expected to have and effect on spring back. The clearance was controlled in order to achieve the precision product which is comparable to deep drawing one. And also thickness and diameter distribution of a multistage cup obtained by shear spinning process were observed and compared with those of a commercial product produced by conventional deep drawing.
