  • The flow turning process, an incremental forming process, is a cost-effective forming method for axi-symmetric intricate parts to net shape. However, the flow turning process shows a fairly complicated deformation, it is very difficult to obtain satisfactory results. Therefore extensive experimental and analytical research has not been carried out. In this study, an fundamental experiment was conducted to improve productivity with process parameters such as tool path, angle of roller holder($\alpha$), feed rate(v ) and comer radius of forming roller(Rr). These factors were selected as variables in the experiment because they were most likely expected to have an effect on spring back. The clearance was controlled in order to achieve the precision product which is comparable to deep drawing one. And also thickness and diameter distributions of a multistage cup obtained by flow turning process were observed and compared with those of a commercial product produced by conventional deep drawing.

  • The large deformation at cryogenic temperature would be one of the effective methods to produce large bulk UFG materials. The effects of annealing temperature 150∼300$^{\circ}C$, on microstructure and mechanical properties of the sheets received 85% reduction at cryogenic temperature were investigated. In comparison with those at room temperature. Annealing of 5083 Al alloy deformed 85%, at 200$^{\circ}C$ for an hour, results in the considerable increase of tensile elongation without the great loss of strength and the occurrence of equiaxed grains less than 300nm in diameter.

The Strength Evaluation on Repaired Plain Woven CFRP Composite with a Circular Hole

  • The CFRP composite has unique properties that offer high strength and stiffness, even though it has light weight. Therefore it can be used in many industrial applications. When mechanical fasteners are used for joining composites, high stress concentrations appear near the edge of holes prepared for accommodating structural bolts and rivets. This presence of high stress concentrations can be a source of damage. The aim of this work is to evaluate fracture behavior and patterns of plain woven CFRP with circular hole and repairing patch element. The maximum strength and pattern for the plain woven carbon composite specimen with the repaired circular hole were examined. From the results, we show that repairing of the CFRP composite specimen with ($\pi$) 3~5 mm of circular hole diameter results in load rising effect and the repairing is more effective as bigger hole specimen.

  • This study is to develop the pretreatment for the excess and digested sludge by elector-coagulation and dewatering. Electrocoagulation is applied to excess and digested sludge before transferring to the pistion type for dewatering. Piston type filter press as a laboratory scale plant was used to estimate the dewaterability. MMD of excess sludge was increased from initial diameter of particles ($34.16{\mu}m$) to the 87%($64.01{\mu}m$) after electrocoagulation. Al electrode is more effective than Fe electrode for the dewaterabiltity of excess sludge Electrodewatering after electrocoagulation as pretreatment makes the water content of sludge cake 50~60 wt%.

  • Catalytic slurry reactors, in which a solid maintained in the rom of fine particles suspended in a liquid, are frequently used in chemical and biochemical and industries. In these processes the particle loading is normally low so that the effects of particles on the liquid-film mass transfer coefacent and the gas-liquid interface area are assumed to be negligible. But it is known from the works, amongst others, that the finely powdered activated carbon can increase the gas-liquid mass transfer significantly in surface-aerated reactors. The stirred cell (13.2cm inside diameter) contained four baffles and at the stirring speeds range of 80 ∼ 300ppm, the gas-liquid interfacial area could be considered as that of the cross section of the vessel (that is, 130.1cm2). When the stirrer speeds were increased, the effective interfacial area was slightly higher than the geometric area and was obtained experimentally from the Danckwerts plots.   • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stability and efficacy of biologic membrane made of freeze-dried cartilage as a barrier to facilitate guided bone regeneration in experimental non-healing bone defects in the rat mandible. Nine adult Sprague-Dawley rats (400-500g) were used in experiment. 5.0mm in diameter were created on the mandibular angle area by means of slow-speed trephine drill. In microscopic examination, dynamic immature bone forming at 2 weeks and its calcification at 4 weeks were observed. The membrane made of lyophilized cartilage taken from human costal cartilage seems to be very effective for guided bone regeneration as a biologic membrane and the scaffold for attachment of cells or local drug delivery system of growth factor, which may meet the ideal requirement of a barrier membrane and graft materials.

  • Ultrasonic energy was applied for atomizing rice-bran oil which is a highly viscous bio fuel. Six different nozzles, an injection simulator, and an ultrasonic generator system were designed and constructed for the experiment. An immersion liquid method was used for the measurement of injection droplet sizes. The characteristics of injection droplets was investigated with respect to the numbers of the droplets with diameters ranging from 5$\mu$m 50$\mu$m and to the Sauter mean diameter. The results showed that the ultrasonic energy was effective for the improvement of the atomization of the injection droplets for all the factors such as type of nozzles, nozzle opening pressures, and collection distances.

Effect of Growth Regulators and Chilling Treatment on Bulblet Increment of Narcissus pseudo-narcissus 'King Alfred' in Vitro (수선의 기내 구 비대에 미치는 생장조절제와 저온처리의 영향)

  • This experiments were conducted to investigate growth regulator concentrations and a period of chilling treatment for increasing the size of bulblets of Narcissus pseudo-narcissus cv King Alfred. Combination of 2.5 mg/L BA and 2.5 mg/L NAA remarkedly increased the diameter and growth of regenerated bulblets. Chilling period favorable for the growth of regenerated bulblets was found to be 8 weeks, and addition of 1.0 mg/L NAA alone to MS medium was the most effective for increasing the size of bulblet for the culture after the chilling treatment.

  • In axisymmetric tube reducing process for thin sheet metal tubes, the reduction ration of diameter is an important factor in the process design. For very thin sheet metal tubes, tube reducing cannot be successfully employed due to wrinkling of the edge portion of a tube as well as due to buckling of its rest portion. In the present study, thin sheet metal tubes are subjected to internal pressure during the tube reducing process in order to increase the forming limits. Analysis is made for the sound flow deformation in nonsteady tube reducing considering the normal anisotropy. Experiments are carried out for brass tubes. The present study is shown to give an effective guide line in designing the tube reducing process for very thin-walled sheet metal tubes. Hpwever, it is suggested that an analysis for instability should be made to design the process more effectively.

  • Electrospinning has known to be very effective tool for production of versatile one-dimensional (1D) nanostructured materials such as nanofibers, nanorod, and nanotubes and for easily assembly to two-, three-dimensional(2D, 3D) nanostructures such as thin film, membrane, and nonwoven web, etc. We have studied on the electrospinning technology for novel energy storage and conversion materials such as advanced separator, dye sensitized solar cell, supercapacitor, etc. High heat-resistive nanofibrous membrane as a new separator for future lithium ion polymer battery was prepared by electrospinning of PVdF based composite solution. The novel nanofibrous composite nonwovens have tensile strength of above 50 MPa and modulus of above 1.3 GPa. The internal structure of the electrospun composite nanofiber with a diameter of few hundreds nanometer were composed of core-shell nanostructure. And also electrospun $TiO_2$ nanorod/nanosphere based dye-sensitized solar cells with high efficiency are successfully prepared. Some battery performance will be introduced.
