The radial position of OiSF-ring has been meaningful data in industry. Thus it's position was calculated by application of (V/G)/sub crit/ = 0.138 ㎟/minK and point defect dynamics for industrial scale grower with various pull rates. After the calculation, compared with experimental result. OiSF-ring diameters expected with calculation were good agreement with experimental results. In order to show validity of the predicted temperature distribution using STHAMAS which is one of the global simulator for Cz crystal growing, temperature was measured along the axis of crystal using thermocouples, and compared with the calculated temperature. We found the effective thermal conductivity K/sub m/ (r) which gives in accordance with the temperature distribution at the axis of crystal and crystal/melt interface shape between experimental and computational results. Therefore, effective thermal conductivity K/sub m/ (r) was applied instead of solving melt convection problem.

High-frequency and complex vibration ultrasonic wire bonding systems are propsed and their welding characteristic are studied. Ultrasonic wire bonding is used widely for joining thin connecting wire of various electronic devices including IC or LSI. Conventional bonding systems use vibration frequency of 40 or 60 kHz and linear vibration welding tips. Complex vibration welding tip which vibrates in elliptical to circular or rectangular to square in the same or different frequency is effective to join welding specimens in shorter welding time and under smaller vibration amplitude, and furthermore high-frequency systems such as 90, 120, 190 kHz are also significantly effective. High-frequency and complex vibration welding system of 90, 120 and 190 kHz are designed. Welding characteristics of these systems are found very superior than a conventional system. Welding specimens of aluminum wire of 0.1mm diameter are successfully.

We investigated the facile and effective strategy for sensitive and selective $C_2H_5OH$ sensors based on the In-decorated NiO nanoigloos. The In-decorated NiO nanoigloos is fabricated by RF sputtering using 750 nm-diameter polystyrene beads using a soft-template. The morphological evolution based on the Van der Drift model was generated through a heterojunction between In metal and NiO, resulting in a pyramidal rough surface. Upon decorating the In on the NiO surface, high sensitivity and selectivity to $C_2H_5OH$ were observed, and gas sensing mechanism was demonstrated by a high surface-to-volume and double Schottky barrier. We are confident that the method presented in this study will have a significant impact on the fabrication of effective nanostructures and their application for the gas sensors.

The present work investigates the behavior of the embankment models resting on soft soil reinforced with ordinary and stone columns encased with geogrid. Model tests were performed with different spacing distances between stone columns and two lengths to diameter ratios (L/d) of the stone columns, in addition to different embankment heights. A total number of 42 model tests were carried out on a soil with undrianed shear strength $${\sim_\sim}10kPa$$. The models consist of stone columns embankment at s/d equal to 2.5, 3 and 4 with L/d ratio equal 5 and 8. Three embankment heights; 200 mm, 250 mm and 300 mm were tested for both tests of ordinary (OSC) and geogrid encased stone columns (ESC). Three earth pressure cells were used to measure directly the vertical effective stress on column at the top of the middle stone column under the center line of embankment and on the edge stone column for all models while the third cell was placed at the base of embankment between two columns to measure the vertical effective stress in soft soil directly. The performance of stone columns embankments relies upon the ability of the granular embankment material to arch over the 'gaps' between the stone columns spacing. The results showed that the ratio of the embankment height to the clear spacing between columns (h/s-d) is a key parameter. It is found that (h/s-d)<1.2 and 1.4 for OSC and ESC, respectively; (h is the embankment height, s is the spacing between columns and d is the diameter of stone columns), no effect of arching is pronounced, the settlement at the surface of the embankment is very large, and the stress acting on the subsoil is virtually unmodified from the nominal overburden stress. When $(h/s-d){\geq}2.2$ for OSC and ESC respectively, full arching will occur and minimum stress on subsoil between stone columns will act, so the range of critical embankment height will be 1.2 (h/sd) to 2.2 (h/s-d) for both OSC and ESC models.
This paper presents a method of controlling the stiffness of a tungsten probe for an atomic force microscope (AFM) in order to provide high-quality phase contrast images in accordance with sample characteristics. While inducing sufficient deformation on sample surfaces with commercial Si or $Si_3N_4$ probes is difficult because of their low stiffness, a tungsten probe fabricated by electrochemical etching with appropriately high stiffness can generate relatively large elastic deformation without damaging sample surfaces. The fabrication of the tungsten probe involves two separate procedures. The first procedure involves immersing a tungsten wire with both ends bent parallel to the surface of an electrolyte and controlling the stiffness of the tungsten cantilever by decreasing its diameter using electrochemical etching in the direction of the central axis. The second procedure involves immersing the end of the etched tungsten cantilever in the direction perpendicular to the surface of the electrolyte and fabricating a tungsten tip with a tip radius of 20-50 nm via the necking phenomenon. The latter etching process applies pulse waves every 0.25 seconds to the manufactured tip to improve its yield. Finite element analysis (FEA) of the stiffness of the tungsten probe as a function of its diameter showed that the stiffness of the tungsten probes greatly varies from 56 N/m to 3501 N/m according to the cantilever diameters from $30{\mu}m$ to $100{\mu}m$, respectively. Thus, the proposed etching method is effective for producing a tungsten probe having specific stiffness for optimal use with an AFM and certain samples.

The influence of the reactant composition on the surface free energy and on the dispersity in water was investigated by using the fluorine-containing water-soluble polyurethane synthesized with the fluorine-containing diol and hydrophilic diol. The diol donating ionic characteristics was more effective than polyol, and stable emulsion with the diameter of 610~310 nm was obtained in the range of 0.3~0.7 molar ratio of the diol to polyol. According to the increment of fluorine-containing compound up to 10 wt %, the surface free energy of polyurethane was dramatically decreased from 22.3 to 12.6 dyn/cm, and the diameter of water dispersed polyurethane increased from 380 to 860 nm due to the strong interaction between polymer molecules because fluorine segments are arranged on the surface of molecules. The macromonomer with perfluoroalkyl group was more effective in complement of the weak point of water-soluble polyurethane, which is a decrease of hydrophobicity, because of strong hydrophobicity.

The purpose of this study was to develop environmentally friendly constructed wetland system in order to improve the environment. This system was constructed with two constructed wetlands andone pond. The size of the first and second wetland was 2.5m in length, 2.5m in width and 0.7m in depth for the first wetland and 0.6m in depth for the second wetland. Those were filled with pebbles with about 16~32mm in diameter from bottom to 20cm depth and onto the pebbles with about 0.5 mm in diameter sand in depth 40cm. The first constructed Wetland was planted with pragmites communis. The second was planted with Iris pseudoacorus and Acorus calamus var. aneustatus.A vertical flow system was used in the first constructed wetland and a horizontal flow system in the second. The water of outflow from the second wetland flowed into the pond. This system was installed in Yangpyeong, Kyunggi Province. The Quality of inflow and outflow were analyzed at the first time from May 20 to May 30, 2002 and at second time from June 10 to July 18, 2002. At the second period wetland was implanted with microbes in order to improve the efficiency of constructed wetlands. Following standard methods for wastewater, BOD, COD, SS, T-N and T-P were analyzed. This system was effective in reducing COD, BOD, SS, T-N and T-P level. The result shows that wastewater was purified through constructed wetland system with plants and highly purified with microbes especially in T-P. The Average total phosphorous concentration of influent and effluent in constructed wetland with microbes was 2.8mg/${\ell}$ L and 0.21mg/${\ell}$ respectively. This system can be used in rural community because this is not only effective on purification of sewage but also is harmonized with the surrounding nature.
To investigate the effect of red light (R) and far-red light(FR) on controlling the growth of tomato transplants, height, length of 1st internode, and stem diameter of plant were measured every 12 days during 24 days of light treatment. At the end of experiment, fresh and dry weights of roots and shoots were measured. Generally, it was shown that the height of plant was suppressed by the treatment of FR. However, the effect of light-treatment time (10 or 20 min) on plant height was not significant. Stem diameter of the plant treated with R was greater than that of the plant treated with FR or the control. Dry weight ratio of shoot to root of the plant treated with R was smaller that of the plant treated with FR. R was more effective than the control, which was more effective than FR, in making the transplant compact.

Effects of water temperature and hormones on ovarian development of conger eel in Korea were investigated. Ovarian development was analyzed by measuring gonadosomatic index (GSI) and oocyte diameter with histological methods. At rearing water temperatures of 12℃, 14℃, and 16℃, GSI value increased from 3.66 at the start of the experiment to 7.44, 8.82, and 7.34 at the end of the experiment, respectively. At rearing water temperatures of 12℃, 14℃, and 16℃, egg diameter increased from 245.11-300.25 ㎛ at the start of the experiment to 377.62-480.27 ㎛, 396.72-498.54 ㎛, and 382.29-475.69 ㎛ at the end of the experiment, respectively. Follicular oocyte development revealed that primary yolk globule stage observed from January to March. It entered to secondary yolk globule stage in April and remained at the same stage until July. As a result of examining effects of three hormones (human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), luteinizing hormone releasing hormone analogue (LHRHa), and salmon pituitary extraction (SPE) on ovarian development, HCG was found to be the most effective one. The progress from diapause of the secondary yolk globule stage to migratory nucleus stage of oocytes could be induced by treating fish with HCG at 1,000 IU/kg. The effect of hormone treatment on ovarian development of conger eel in Korea was the most effective at water temperature of 14℃.
