  • When a person suggests an estimate under uncertainty, (s)he tend to rely on the information and number provided in advance. As a result, their final estimate would be assimilated to the initial value. This phenomenon is called "anchoring effect". The present research examined anchoring effects observed in law courts. Sentencing decision of jurors can be influenced by the sentence demanded by the prosecutor. Specifically, this study demonstrated the condition in which anchoring effect would be stronger and practical solutions for lowering anchoring effect. Study 1 demonstrated whether gravity of criminal cases and levels of anchor influenced anchoring effects. As expected, anchoring effect was stronger in a heavier criminal case than in a lighter one. When a low anchor was provided in a lighter case, anchoring effect was stronger compared to when a high anchor was provided. Study 2 examined how emotion affects anchoring effects. The results showed that anchoring effect appeared to be significantly stronger with feelings of anger than of sadness. Study 3 examined the solution for reducing anchoring effects in a court. When activation of selective-accessibility model was prevented, anchoring effects significantly decreased. These results can help solve the problems about juror judgmental bias and contribute to the development of Korean jury trial.

  • The Journal of Industrial Management Society in Republic of Korea. In order to explore the effect of overseas language training on the development of foreign language accuracy, this study investigates the errors in English compositions produced by 27 Korean university students who received overseas language training for 15 weeks. For data collection, students were made to take two tests, a pretest and a posttest, a semester apart. The differences in composition elements and errors between the two tests were examined and statistical analyses were performed. Results showed that while the average length of the compositions and sentences increased, the number of sentences decreased in the posttest. Also, more errors were found in the posttest where the students tried to construct more complex sentence structures. The students' ability to generate sentences were found to have improved, while their competence in using grammatical elements accurately within sentences did not see great improvement. This implies that overseas language training was not effective for aiding the development of one's grammatical accuracy of a foreign language over a 15-week period for the students.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of action learning methods and practices, which have a research focus on learner-centered teaching after training students to use collaborative learning practices from the viewpoint that the learners acquire English skills through peer correction activities based on sociocultural learning theory[1]. From March 1, 2018 to June 15, 2018, one control class and one experimental group were selected from the general freshman English courses. The experimental group attended classes centered on collaborative writing activities using action learning and cooperation techniques, and the control group attended classes lecture style and rote learning methods to teach writing. The result of study has shown that, for the experimental group, there have been statistically significant results in the production of writing, such as the number of words, the number of sentences, and sentence length. Learners could share the knowledge or ideas of others in their learning relationships with more regular basis.

  • This paper aims to research the language changes in modern Korean and its effect to the language processing systems. In modern Korean. the syntactic constructions l like [Adnominal Ending + Bound Noun ( + Postposition)] are changing into the morphological constructions, and some of these constructions are reflected in the written language. For example. the syntactic construction [Ad nominal Ending + '-de (Bound N Noun)' (+ Postposition) ) co-exists with the mixed form '-neunde' and [Adnominal Ending + 'geot' (Bound Noun) + '-j' (Postposition)) does with ' neunge'. These constructions are used frequently in the spoken language. As like other verbal endings, these forms also participate in the construction of the complex sentence, and these forms have its own case function fused into themselves So, the analytic approach to these forms can make great effect on the automatic morphological analysis systems. automatic tagging systems. and the syntactic analysis systems. So. in the design phase of a language processing systems, the language change phenomena like these must be taken l into consideration.

  • This study evaluates the erosive potential and effects of mixed alcohols by analyzing the pH, titratable acidity, and fluorescence loss degree (△F). Following alcohol groups were investigated: Soju, Calamansi+soju, Yakult+soju, Cola+soju, and Energy drink+soju. The ratio of soju:beverage in the alcohol mixtures was 7:3. Ed. Notes: The sentence lacks clarity. Please review if the edit correctly portrays the meaning. If not, please revise appropriately. Measurement of the pH and titratable acidity (the amount of 1M NaoH solution required to raise to pH 5.5 (TA5.5) and 7.0 (TA7.0)) of alcohols was achieved by stirring with pH meter. The erosive effect of the alcohol mixtures on bovine tooth (△F) after 1, 2, 4, and 6 hours exposure were analyzed by quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF-D). All the mixed alcohols in this study showed an acidic pH, lower than 4.5. The average pH of mixed alcohols was 3.17 ± 0.50 whereas the pH of Soju was 8.6 ± 0.01. The TA5.5 and TA7.0 values of the mixed alcohols were 0.5~18 and 0.5~23.5, respectively. △F of the three tested mixed alcohol groups (except yakult+soju group) were observed to increase in a time-dependent manner. The calamansi mixed alcohol had the highest acidity potential and erosive effect among the tested groups. Taken together, the results indicate that the mixed alcohols have a strong erosive effect and potential on dental enamel.

  • This single-subject study examined the effects of repetitive speech training at the word and sentence levels using speech cues on the percentage of correct consonants (PCC) and speech intelligibility of children with cerebral palsy (CP). Three children aged between 5-8 years with a history of CP participated in the study. Thirty-minute intervention sessions were provided four times a week for four weeks. The intervention included repeated training of words and sentences containing target phonemes using two instructions of speech cues, "big mouse" and "strong voice". First, the children improved their average PCC and speech intelligibility, but an effect size analysis indicated that the effect was different for each child, and the effect size for speech intelligibility was higher than for PCC. Second, the intervention effect was generalized to untrained words and sentences. Third, the maintenance effects of PCC and speech intelligibility were very high. These findings suggests that repeated speech training using speech cues is an intervention technique that can help improve PCC and speech intelligibility in children with CP.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the original texts with quotations in 16 Kinds of Cough Part in Haesu Chapter of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam and to find out the ideas of Huh Jun(許浚, 1546-1615; the author of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam) in there. Methods: I compared the original texts with quotations in 16 Kinds of Cough Part in Haesu Chapter of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam. Results: 1. There is only one quoted sentence which perfectly matches with original text in 16 Kinds of Cough Part in Haesu Chapter of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam. The other sentences are all modified while they are quoted by Huh Jun, at least one word. 2. The arrangement order of 'medical effect', 'consisting medicines and their dosages' and 'doctrine in application' were rearranged following the form of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam when being quoted. 3. In cases of reciting the text, Huh Jun tries to clarify the original source of the context. However, instead of using original quotations he recited rephrased quotes from other sources. 4. Huh Jun cites from not only cough parts of other texts but also asthma(喘症) or heat(積熱) parts. 5. Titles of original text books are recorded in the end of all sentences of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam, but there are a few wrong titles recorded. Conclusion: In consideration of the above-mentioned, the Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam is not the mere collection of various Oriental Medical books, but the Classic of Oriental Medicine to hold Huh Jun's own opinion.

  • Background and Objectives The objective of this study was to examine the effect of early cochlear implantation (CI) performed in infants less than 12 months of age. Subjects and Method Twenty-five children who received their first CI before 12 months of age were included in this study (infant group). The speech perception and language outcomes of these children were compared with those of 14 children who received their first CI between 13 and 24 months of age (older group). All children received sequential bilateral CI with the inter-stage interval of less than 2 years. Speech perception was measured using Categories of Auditory Performance, monosyllabic word test and sentence test, and language ability was measured using Sequenced Language Scale for Infants, Preschool Receptive-Expressive Language Scale, or Receptive & Expressive Vocavulary Test, depending on the age at the time of testing. Results There were no significant differences in speech perception abilities between the infant group and the older group. The mean expressive language score of infant group was higher than that of the older group, but the difference was not statistically significant. However, the receptive language score of infant group was significantly higher than that of the older group. Conclusion Children who received CI before 12 months of age achieved better receptive language ability than those who received it after 12 months of age. Thus CI should be performed as early as before 12 months of age to achieve better language ability.

  • This study of Cho Ji - Hoon's Poem "Falling Flowers" was attempted to find the mechanism of poetic healing and utilize it for literary therapy. In this study, I examined how Cho Ji-Hoon's poem "Falling Flowers" encoded crying. Especially, we focused on the organic relationship of each layer represented by poem and put emotional codes on the layer of functor and argument. The results are as follow. It represents the Separation Layer of 1-3strophes, 4-6strophes constitute the Time Layer, and 7-9strophes the Sadness Layer. This poem proceeds the encoding of the sentence in which the crying of cuckoo in the 1-3strophes transforms into the crying of the poetic narrator in the last 9strophe. The relation of emotional layers in this poem is in the same function relations as "(1-3strophes) ${\subset}$ (4-6strophes) ${\subset}$ (7-9strophes)". Since these functional relations consist of the encoding of sadness, encrypts emotion signals of sadness as "U+U+U" becomes "UUU". 1-3strophes' U is the cry of the cuckoo, and U of the 4-6strophes is blood cry. Therefore, "UUU" is the blood cry of poetic narrator. This Cho Ji-Hoon's poem has a Han(恨) at its base. So, as Cho Ji-Hoon's poem "Falling Flowers" is uttered, the poetic mechanism of U, the code of sadness, is amplified. Then we get caught up in the emotions we want to cry. The poetic catharsis of "crying" is providing the effect of literary therapy. In the future, it will be possible to develop a more effective literary therapy technique by developing a literary therapy program like this poetic structure.
