This paper is aimed to examine the current research and educational problems of foreign studies in Korean universities and review some alternative ways. Area studies as foreign studies have several characteristics which are different from those of the other research disciplines. It is a research and educational program that promotes comprehensive understanding about political, economic, social, and cultural phenomena of a specific area in the world. For better understand 'others', researchers in the field of area studies must explain the whole mechanism of the area, which could be revealed in terms of the very existence of its reality. Foreign studies are accomplished with joint-research method, collaborating two or more different research disciplines and based on the contemporary system of knowledge accumulation and educational program. Therefore, the critical issue can be gradually taken on a political and social characteristic. At this point, research and educational manner in foreign studies field in Korea should be changed to secure the academic reflections of temporality, sociality, placeness using a new paradigm such as complexity.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the research trends on educational development cooperation in Korea with the comparative perspectives. In order to do this, this study analyzed the both of academic journal articles(N=184) and policy research reports(N=85) published in Korea from 1993 to 2015, based on the following criteria: research topic, purpose, target, and the characteristics of publication. As the result of the contents analysis, educational development cooperation researches were expanded and diversified in accordance with changes in development cooperation policy in Korea, and also found following three characteristics. First, the overall trend of the researches focused mainly on a theocratical basis in order to implement educational ODA projects rather than academic interests. Second, there were small number of academic research dealing with effectiveness or limitation of specific educational ODA projects, despite of a large portion of them. Third, there was a lack of academic interaction between education society and international development cooperation society. Based on these findings, this study discussed the implication for the future educational development cooperation research.

The trend toward more welfare living because of more leisure time has influenced the popularity of the community facilities in apartment housing. According to the residents' increasing interests for well-being life the changes and developments of the community facilities have been required in these days. The purpose of this research is to study these required changes and developments by analyzing the resident's using behavior of community facilities in apartment housing focusing on the educational and cultural facilities. For this purpose, this research intends to examine the existing conditions and problems of educational and cultural community facilities in apartment housing and to analyze the residents' using patterns such as frequency, preference and to comprehend the additional needs and requirements of the residents. The conclusions and suggestions of this research can be a basic data for the architects to design a resident-oriented educational and cultural community facilities.

Numerous oil tanker losses have been reported and one of the possible causes of such casualties is caused by the structural failure of aging ship hulls in rough weather. In aging ships, corrosion and fatigue cracks are the two most important factors affecting structural safety and integrity. This research is about effect on hull girder ultimate strength behavior of double hull oil tanker according to corrosion after Part I: stiffened panel. Based on corrosion data of Part I (time-dependent corrosion wastage model and CSR corrosion model), when progressing corrosion of fourtypes of double hull oil tankers (VLCC, Suezmax, Aframax, and Panamax), the ultimate strength behavior of hull girder is compared and analyzed. In case of the ultimate strength behavior of hull girder, when occurring corrosion, the result under vertical and horizontal bending moment is analyzed. The effect of time-dependent corrosion wastage on the ultimate hull girder strength as well as the area, section modulus, and moment of inertia are also studied. The result of this research will be useful data to evaluate ultimate hull girder strength of corroded double hull oil tanker.

Age-related problems especially corrosion and fatigue are normally suffered by weatherworn ships and aging offshore structures. The effect of corrosion is one of the important factors in the Common Structural Rule (CSR) guideline of the ship design based on a 20 or 25 years design life. The aim of this research is the clarification of the corrosion effect on ultimate strength of stiffened panels on various types of double hull oil tankers. In the case of ships, corrosion is a phenomenon caused by the ambient environment and it has different characteristics depending on the parts involved. Extensive research considering these characteristic have already done by previous researchers. Based on this data, the ultimate strength behavior of stiffened panels for four double hull oil tankers such as VLCC, Suezmax, Aframax, and Panamax classes are compared and analyzed. By considering hogging and sagging bending moments, the stiffened panels of the deck, inner bottom and outer bottom located far away from neutral axis of ship are assessed. The results of this paper will be useful in evaluating the ultimate strength of an oil tanker subjected to corrosion. These results will be an informative example to check the effect of ultimate strength of a stiffened panel according to corrosion addition from CSR for a given type of ship.

The study analyzed the topics and the types of the selected articles from the 20-year-old Journal of Educational Technology(JET), flagship journal of the Korean Society of Educational Technology. Further the results were compared with those of the Educational Technology Research & Development journal. Results indicate that the JET has grown in terms of quantity and quality since its birth 20 years ago. The JET seems to be independent as a young adult. Some issues and concerns were also identified: The articles of the JET are more inclined to Experimental design in terms of research type, and to Design in terms of research topic. Balance across Types and Topics needs be kept for long-term, healthier growth. The emergence of e-Learning and high technology of Korea offered opportunities to the field. However, the monopoly of e-Learning that consumes most of the limited space of the JET raises a red flag. More balanced and quality-oriented endeavors were suggested for another 20 years coming.

The roles-grafting research is an approach to educational studies intended to graft five roles of supervisors, graduate students, teachers, principals and administrators. The approach is divided into four chained and cyclical aspects: drafting research blueprint, revising research blueprint, executing research blueprint and assessing performances. The approach maintains five basic principles: principles of inheritance, innovation, practicality, scientific basis and grafting. It is a paradigm of innovative research that has been developed in China that is worth a thorough investigation and extensive analysis.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the appraising frame and the accreditation system of universities in both Korea and the United Sates, as well as developing a standard plan to appraise 4 year nursing education institutions in Korea. Research design of this study was descriptive comparative research. The results of the research can be divided into six fields, educational purposes, educational courses, students, faculty, facility .equipments and administration.finance in Korea. Then the results were further categorized into seven fields : mission and governance, faculty, students, curriculum and instruction, resources, educational effectiveness and integrity. Thus Korean appraising frames were suggested to have eight fields of standard. The fields are philosophy and purposes of educational institution, educational courses and instruction, students, faculty, facility .equipments, adminstration.finance, educational effectiveness and integrity.
