Development of a Quality Evaluation Standard for Educational Serious Games

  • Given the lack of suitable quality evaluation standards for educational serious games (designed for both entertainment and instruction), we designed a development framework for evaluation standards of educational serious games and proceeded to develop standards in accordance with our proposed procedure. Our standards were designed to evaluate the quality of both technical and non-technical elements of educational serious game software products. We conducted a survey on the need for individual elements of the standard. Participants rated the need for each element on a five-point Likert scale. We then performed a reliability analysis of the survey results. Based on the survey results, we established a final standard for quality evaluation composed of 9 main elements and 31 sub-elements. The results of our research will contribute useful information to users as well as to the developers of educational serious games.

  • We have developed three evaluation checklists of educational softwares for users such as, learners, teachers and parents, not for the software develops or designers. This study has especially focused on CD-ROM titles and softwares on the internet. The followings were selected as the essential attributes that the educational softwares of high quality should possess : ease of use, technical support and interest of learning for learners, educational value and smartness for teachers, packaging integrity, investment value and childproof for parents. The evaluation checklists were developed on the basis of evaluation criteria which were concretion of the essential attributes. The validity of the evaluation checklists was supported by a theoretical study for the development of ckecklists and the actual development process. The interrater reliability and the retest reliability were confirmed by statistical methods. Thus, the developed checklists can be a useful tool to evaluate educational softwares. This study will contribute to improvement of the software quality and help users in selecting educational softwares.

  • The remarkable growth of the Internet since mid-l990s has expanded the e-learning market and brought the transformation of educational environments and methodology. It can be said that the e-learning has changed the educational paradigm. Korean government is firmly determined to support the diffusion of e-learning because of the benefits of e-learning. People seem to accept the e-learning when its contents have high quality. A lot of research have been conducted on e-learning, however, it was mostly about user's usage intention, satisfaction and educational effect. It can't seem that sufficient research efforts have been put into figuring out the role of e-learning contents quality in the expansion of e-learning. In this paper, we present the empirical study on the influence of e-learning contents quality on user's satisfaction and educational effect. We conducted an questionnaire survey on college students to collect data and found that the quality of e-learning contents has significant influence on the users' satisfaction.

  • By using the formerly established SERVQUAL Model, measurement methods and determinant variables in the other papers for the Service Quality, this study first focuses to find out the difference consumers' evaluation between before-experience and after-experience of the educational service, and second, to examine the difference consumers' evaluation between before-experience and after-experience of the educational service according to pre-recognition degree for the subjected educational service quality. The results are derived as follows. 1. As a consequence of the simulation, the consumers distinctly tend to recognize importance of human concern and visual aspect after experience of educational service. 2. Between the group with more pre-recognition degree and less pre-recognition degree for the subjected educational service quality, have no difference.

  • Purpose: This study explores the impact of digital transformation (DT) strategies on gaining a competitive advantage in interactive educational services. Methods: We develop a service value proposition model by analyzing educational service elements to confirm the impact of DT in the classroom through case studies. This study focuses on educational services that DT has a positive impact on organizational competitiveness by providing opportunities for customers to engage in operational processes. This case study summarizes competitiveness using SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis. Results: The findings of the case study indicate that DT-enabled competitive factors contribute to an organization's competitive advantage. The study results present key resource as social cloud services, data combination, content sharing, and products/services. The online application that collects user data about education and shares class and evaluation information creates a new class operational process in the field of educational service for a value proposition of collection-merging-sharing with social cloud function. Conclusion: The results of this study can be used as a good guideline for educational service providers interested in applying DT for improved customer satisfaction and educational organizations' competitiveness. In addition, the study findings provide theoretical and practical implications on SWOT approaches to changing the educational service provision ways through digital transformation.

Analysis of Educational Services Distribution: The Case of Kazakhstan

  • Purpose: This research aims to analyze the educational potential and students' satisfaction with the quality of education services distribution in Kazakhstani universities. The conceptual review shows that very few studies on regional development have been able to determine the level of satisfaction with the quality of educational services depending on the university's location. Research design, data, and methodology: The research methodology is divided into two approaches descriptive analysis and qualitative data analysis. The current educational situation and the distribution of educational services in the largest Kazakh universities were studied based on the proposed approaches' use. Statistical data are taken for indicators of educational potential for 2010-2020 from the Bureau of National Statistics. The primary data were collected based on a survey for 2021-2022 in five regions of Kazakhstan. Results: The results showed that there is a gender gap between men and women and regional disparities between the regions of Kazakhstan in the coverage of higher education. The results of the sociological survey revealed that the quality of educational services depends on the territorial location of the university. Conclusions: Based on the results of the assessment of educational potential and educational services, policy recommendations and further research in this area were proposed.

대학 교육서비스 만족도 향상을 위한 품질차원 및 개선우선순위 도출 (A Study on Quality Dimension and Improvement Priority for Enhancing University Educational Service Satisfaction)

  • Purpose: This study is on the priority for improving students satisfaction in university educational service. It explores the dimension of service quality and analyzes the relationship among quality elements, service satisfaction, and loyalty. Methods: This paper performs empirical studies by questionnaire survey. The Timko model is used for finding the degree of possible improvement of quality elements, and structural equation and regression models are used to analyze the effect of them on service satisfaction and loyalty. Also, explanatory factor analysis is used to investigate the quality determinants. Results: The quality dimension is composed of curriculum, employment support, interaction with outsiders, start-up support, learning support, counselling, and administration service. Curriculum, learning support, and administration service are positively correlated with service satisfaction, and service satisfaction has a positive effect on loyalty. Counselling service is an attractive element, and curriculum, start-up support, and learning support are indifferent elements. Conclusion: Comprehensive analysis shows that curriculum, academic advisor, and administration service have high priorities for improving educational service satisfaction.

  • People spend more than 90% of their time indoor. Nowadays as they are interested in environment much more than before, indoor air pollution has been regarded as new environmental problems. At present, an air quality check is required prior to the completion of construction. However this study shows that the density level of HCHO and VOCs in a classroom was increased after furnishing the classroom. Thus, to measure the quality of air more effectively and accurately, it should be measured after the indoor space are furnished. Newly-built schools are tested for this study. The building sites were investigated to measure and evaluate the IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) in newly-built schools. The result of this study can be used as a basis to improve the environment air condition of the educational facilities.

  • 오늘날, 기능성게임 시장의 많은 부분을 교육용기능성게임이 차지하고 있지만 교육용기능성게임에 대한 유용한 품질평가 정보를 사용자 또는 개발자에게 제공하기 위한 품질평가 시스템은 부족한 실정이다. 비록 기능성게임을 위한 기존의 메타데이터 관리 시스템이 개발되어 있지만 기존 시스템은 교육용기능성게임의 품질평가 정보를 관리 할 수 있는 기능은 제공되지 않고 있다. 따라서 교육용기능성게임의 품질평가 관리시스템의 개발은 매우 중요한 과제이다. 우리는 교육기능성게임에 대한 메타데이터 및 품질평가를 모두 관리하기 위한 시스템의 설계를 제안하였다. 본 시스템의 장점은 일반사용자와 개발자에게는 신뢰할 수 있는 유용한 정보를 제공하고, 시스템 관리자에게 메타데이터와 품질정보를 쉽고 편리하게 관리할 수 있는 수단을 지원하는 것이다.

A Study on Development of Quality Standards of Educational Smart Contents

  • With advances in smart and ICT(information and communication technology) technologies, our life style has been changing dramatically. Now everybody can enjoy the benefits of such technologies in every aspect of his/her daily life. Currently more and more people are trying to have smart devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs so that smart devices become the bare necessities. New smart technologies have created a new concept called smart learning in education area. As educational smart contents become popular, we need quality standards for the contents. Those standards are essential for evaluating the smart contents and suggesting guidance for future smart contents production. Although there are some standards for the existing e-learning environments, to our best knowledge, there are no standards for educational smart contents in the literature. The purpose of this paper is to develop quality standards for educational smart contents. The proposed quality standards are based on the existing quality standards in e-learning environments and include some characteristics of smart learning. For development of quality standards, wide experts group from academy and industry are selected and surveyed. Their responses are analyzed based on thorough statistical analysis so that final quality standards for educational smart contents are developed.
