It is assumed that the more society advances in its complexity and development, the more people pay attention to their health and accordingly the more people tend to practice health protective behavior. Most of human behavior is based on social inter-actions. The concept in Locus of Control has been developed from social learning theory to help better understanding the social phenomena affecting human behavior. Multidimensional Health Locus of Control is consisted of three dimensions: Internal, Powerful Others and Chance. This study was conducted to find out the health protective behavior patterns of the people and its relationship with Health Locus of Control as an influencing factor to their behavior. All the subjects in this study were the ones of the bank employees in Seoul, Among the total of 1,430 bank employees, 761 were chosen as a sampled subjects. Questionnair survey was conducted from March 4 to March 13, 1985. Research instruments used in this study were two kinds, one was the Health Locus of Control Scale developed by Wallston & Wallston and the other was the Measuring Scale for Health Protective Behavior developed by the investigator. Analysis of data was done by using Descriptive Statistics, X²-test, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results of this study are summarized as follows: The mean score of Internal was 24.1, Powerful others was 19.7 and Chance was 15.3 out of maximum range of 6-30 respectively. The mean score of Health Protective Behavior Scale fell as 53.2 out of a maximum range of 18-90. Internals were more likely closely related with sex, educational levels and religion, Powerful others were related with age, educational levels and the number of family members. Chances were related with edu cational levels. The older the subjects were, the more concerned about their health. They tended to practice more favorable health protective behaviors. Furthermore, married people tended to fay more attention to their health than single individuals. Also, the number of family members and religion affected their attitudes in the health protective behavior patterns. Internals and Powerful Others were related with health protective behaviors. If one believes he can do something about his health and others play a significant role on his health, he is more apt protective patterns more suitable for health and actually shows that he is better off.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of an educational intervention that used both cellular phones and the Internet to provide a short messaging service (SMS) relating to blood glucose, blood pressure, and serum lipid levels in postmenopausal women with impaired fasting glucose (IFG). Methods: Twenty-eight postmenopausal women were assigned to an intervention group and twenty-one postmenopausal women to a control group. The intervention was provided for 12 weeks. Patients in the intervention group were asked to access a web site by using a cellular phone or to use the Internet directly and input their blood glucose and blood pressure levels weekly. Participants were sent the optimal recommendations weekly by both cellular phone and Internet. Results: The intervention group had a mean decrease in systolic blood pressure (SBP) level of 8.1 mmHg but changes for the control group were not significant. There was a significant mean change in diastolic blood pressure (DBP) level for the intervention group (-7.7 mmHg). The mean change in the control group was not significant. Conclusion: This educational intervention using the Internet and a SMS by cellular phone improved levels of SBP and DBP in postmenopausal women with IFG.
This study sought to determine family restaurant patrons' attitudes toward nutrition and healthy menus. A written questionnaire was handed out to 300 dine-in customers at the three different sites of T brand family restaurant. A total of 265 questionnaires were usable for data analysis, resulting in 88% response rate. Two attitude statements eliciting the strongest agreement were that 'Diet and chronic diseases risk are closely connected each other(4.44)' and 'Koreans are more nutrition & health conscious than they were in the past(4.41)'. The attitude statement-that nutrition is important when I eat out- received the lowest scores(2.92), which indicated that nutrition was not yet considered the most important factor when dining out. 23% of the respondents were interested in healthful foods, while 30% said they were unconcerned. Nutrition conscious group showed significantly (p<.000) higher attitude scores for most of statements than unconcerned group. Significant differences were found in age groups(p<.05, p<.01, p<.001), income levels(p<.05), educational levels(p<.05), health status groups(p<.05), and weight control interest groups(p<.05). Older respondents, respondents with higher income and educational levels were more interested in nutrition and healthy menus. Respondents who reported good health status and showed higher interest in weight control were more interested in nutrition and healthy menus. These findings indicate that restaurant firms should respond to consumers' increased interest in nutrition and healthy menus by offering healthful menus and increasing nutrition marketing activities. This may positively result in increasing customer counts and revenue as well as customer satisfaction level and brand image of restaurant firms. Moreover, restaurant firms are strongly encouraged to play an active role in promoting public's nutritional and health status because increasing consumption of meals away from home will seriously affect good health of our consumers.
This study examined the proof levels and understanding of constituents of proving by three mathematically gifted 6th grade korean students, who belonged to the highest 1% in elementary school, through observation and interviews on the problem-solving process in relation to constructing a rectangle of which area equals the sum of two other rectangles. We assigned the students with Clairaut's geometric problems and analyzed their proof levels and their difficulties in thinking related to the understanding of constituents of proving. Analysis of data was made based on the proof level suggested by Waring (2000) and the constituents of proving presented by Galbraith(1981), Dreyfus & Hadas(1987), Seo(1999). As a result, we found out that the students recognized the meaning and necessity of proof, and they peformed some geometric proofs if only they had teacher's proper intervention.
Purpose: This study was done to confirm prenatal health management and educational needs for pregnant women with advanced maternal age (AMA) and pregnant women under 35 years of age. Methods: This study was a descriptive research in which self-report questionnaires were used. Participants were 279 pregnant women (83 AMA and 196 less than 35). Results: Only 32.5% of AMA women had received prenatal education and 51.8% reported wanting internet education. AMA women, compared to the under 35 women, had higher levels of self-awareness of health problems and possibility of health problems but lower levels of alcohol experience before pregnancy. For prenatal health management, scores were low for prenatal exercise, prenatal education and nutrition. For prenatal health management education, AMA women reported high levels of need for education on health problems. Conclusion: The results indicate that prenatal health management education must be given considering differences in age-related requirements by emphasizing health care and obstetric complications during pregnancy for AMA women and anemia and information on substance use during pregnancy for women under 35. Reliable internet-based education programs need to be developed using available information and communication technology for the increasing number of employed pregnant women.
Creativity has been suggested as a prime educational objective by national curriculum of Korea and research on creativity education has been increased since 2000s. How the researcher conceptualizes and approaches creativity affects the research. The purpose of this study is to explore directions of creativity research in education by analyzing its approach based on its categories and levels of creativity. The results of the study shows the following: (1)studies with a definition of creativity are more than without it but the former has been decreasing and the latter increasing little by little. (2)Studies which focus on person, cognitive or emotional characteristics, are the most. And process, environment, and product follow. (3)Regarding the levels of creativity, most was done on little-c creativity level, on the other hand, very limited studies conceptualized the creativity in educational context. Studies having an interest in mini-c creativity level were hardly found.
The purpose of this study is to find out the problems which are caused when the limit concept of sequences is learned through an intuitive definition and to suggest a way of solving those problems. Students in Korea study the limit concept of sequences through an intuitive definition. They fail to apply the intuitive definition properly to the problems and they are apt to have misconception even though the Intuitive definition is applied properly. To solve these problems, this study examined the develop- mental process of the limit concept of sequences from the Intuitive definition to the formal definition, and looked into the way of students' internalization of the process through a field study. In this study, the levels of the limit concept of sequences possessed by the students at ZPD are as follows; level 0 : Students understand the limit concept of sequences through the intuitive definition. level 1 : Students understand the limit concept of sequences as 'The difference between $\alpha$$_{n}$ and $\alpha$ approaches 0' rather than 'The sequence approaches $\alpha$ infinitely.' level 2 : Students understand the limit concept of sequences through the formal definition. The levels of students' limit concept development were analysed by those criteria. Almost of the students who studied the limit concept of sequences through the intuitive defition stayed at level 0, whereas almost of the students who studied through the formal definition stayed at level 1. Through the study, I found that it was difficult for the students to develop the higher level of understanding for themselves but the teachers and peers could help the students to progress to the higher level. Students' learning ability was one of major factors that make the students progress to the higher level of understanding as the concept was developed hierarchically from Level 0 to Level 2. If you want to see your students get to the higher level of understanding in the limit concept, you need to facilitate them to fully develop understanding in lower levels through enough experiences so that they can be promoted to the highest level.

Teachers should actively maintain and improve their ICT competency in today's ever changing information society. A standardized system should now be developed to assist educators when choosing courses to improve their ICT competency. Previous ICT competency studies have only measured one's current ICT abilities rather than analyzing the skills necessary for educators to be successful in the educational system. This study developed an assessment tool to measure the ICT competency levels of CEOs who have the potential to be the decision makers in ICT education. In order to accomplish this, the jobs, duties, and tasks of educational CEOs were analyzed against the ICT Skills Standards for Teachers to determine which ICT skills are required by educational CEOs. Sixty-three questions were extracted from this analysis, guiding educational CEOs in the determination of their own ICT skills level.
There have been diverse discourses arguing that new design has been emerging in the 21 st century. However, there have been very few trials to identify systematically the characteristics_of new design paradigm and to develop new design educational program based on them. Thus, this paper aims at development of strategy of new design educational program according to the characteristics of new design paradigm. At first, design is viewed as part of 'culture'and the structure of culture is identified: 'Artifact', 'Value', and 'Basic Assumptions'. Similarly, design is found to comprise of three fundamental attributes: 'Function', 'Aesthetics','Symbolic'. These levels are shown to be in the relation of mutually recycling influences. These structural framework is used to understand the design methods and qualification of designers over the development of design paradigms: vernacular design, machine age, and information-knowledge age. The result leads the list of requirements of new educational design program: 'Human-Centered','Situation-Based','User-Participatory', and 'Intangible'. The model of strategy of new educational design program is developed and proposed.
