A Study on the Viewers' Reponses to In-Program Advertising According to TV Program Genre (프로그램 유형에 따른 중간광고에 대한 시청자 반응 연구)

  • Advertising is both applauded and criticized for its characteristics and roles on society. Advertising environment is changing and developing. The important changes in advertising are fragmentation of traditional media, growth of new media, and increasing clutter. The major issue in advertising and broadcasting system in Korea is reintroduction of in-program advertising on terrestrial television stations. The purpose of this study is investigate the responses of viewers to in-program advertising. This study considers program genre as mediating variable which may affect the viewers' responses to in-program advertising. Independent variables of this study are the insertion of in-program advertising (insertion/non-insertion) and program genres(news/educational/drama/entertainment program). Dependent variables of this study are viewers' responses, attitude towards broadcasting station and attitude towards advertiser. This study was run as a $2{\times}4$ factorial design with 30 subjects per cell, resulting in a total sample size of 240. This study randomly assigned each subject to 1 of the 8 treatment groups. The result of this study shows that in-program advertising induces negative responses of viewers, attitude towards broadcasting station and advertiser. And this study found that viewers showed the negative responses to in-program advertising regardless of program genre. The findings of this study illustrate the need of consideration and planning of in-program advertising to protect viewers' right.

Towards Intercultural Christian Education: A Christian Educational Response to Multicultural Phenomenon in the South Korean Context (상호문화적 기독교교육: 한국의 다문화현상에 대한 기독교교육적 응답)

  • In South Korea which has become a multicultural society, ethnic and cultural others have suffered from discrimination against them and isolation from society. Multicultural policies and multicultural public education have simply focused on the assimilation of cultural others without providing opportunities to build a reciprocal relationship between Kor eans and cultural others. Noting this reality, this paper proposes intercultural Christian education as a prophetic and educational role of faith communities in society. Intercultural education, intercultural theology, Miroslav Volf's drama of embrace, and Sang-Jin Park's theory of the ecosystem of Christian education offer theoretical foundations for intercultural Christian education. Based on these foundations, the paper discusses the definition and goal of intercultural Christian education and argues for the roles of intercultural Christian education to help Christ ians "SEE" the self, the other, and the community through self-reflection, embrace, and ecological transformation. As intercultural Christian education pursues to nurture Christians to have a respectful and hospitable mindset toward cultural others, such education will help faith communities seek a multi-colored kingdom of God.

Nursing students' experience of visiting the National Institute for Scientific Investigation (간호대학생의 국립과학수사연구소 탐방 경험)

  • The purpose is a qualitative study on the search for career paths of nursing students after visiting the National Institute of Science and Investigation. Participants in this study were 13 people who participated in the National Institute of Science and Investigation visit program during a club event for 3rd graders at a university in M city, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Data collection was made through a self-report within 48 hours of visiting the National Institute of Science and Investigation. The collected data were analyzed using Krippendorff's phenomenological method. As a result of analyzing the experiences of nursing students' visits to the National Institute of Forensic Science, 3 categories, 6 themes, and 20 meaningful statements were identified. The three categories were derived from "Beyond the boundaries of the nursing profession," "The difference between drama and reality", and "Challenge in a new field". As a result of this study, it was confirmed that the experience of visiting the National Institute of Forensic Science provided an understanding of forensic nurses and had opportunities for various social participation attitudes as nurses. In addition, it is expected to be used as basic data useful for career guidance and student counseling in the future, and it is expected to be used as basic data for educational demand structure and educational development for forensic nurses.

Migration and Transmission of the Intangible Culture and its musical change : the case of North Korean Mask Dance Drama, Eunyeul (무형문화의 이주, 전승 그리고 음악적 변화 양상: 은율탈춤의 사례)

  • In the paper, this study will be explored in the migration of the mask dance Eunyeul Talchum from North Korea to South Korea after the national division took place. During and after the Korean War, refugees from the Hwanghae province settled in the Republic of Korea who were performers of the three Korean mask dances: Bongsan Talchum, Kangryeong Talchum and Eunyeul Talchum. All of these mask dances are denoted as South Korea's National Intangible Properties under the Cultural Property Protection Law (1962.) However, Eunyeul Talchum is the only asset among these three that settled in Incheon, instead of the capital, Seoul. The purpose of this research is to examine the process of restoring and the idea of transmitting Eunyeul Talchum in Incheon after the division of Korea. As opposed to Bongsan Talchum and Gangryeong Talchum, which are recognized as major socio-ethnic groups, Eunyeul Talchum belongs to a minority. Because not only Eunyeul Talchum is the last Mask Dance which has been nominated as an Intangible asset among the other Hwanghae Talchum but also, most people in the preservation association are comprised of the second-generation refugees from Hwanghae province. During three months of research, the researcher observed the performances and the educational communicating Eunyeul Talchum's cultural legacy. This study included several research methods: open interview, examination of relevant documents, and live performances. Particularly, the researcher conducted interviews with the Human Cultural Property and musicians (including professional/scholarly to lay/untrained) in the Preservation Association. In conclusion, Eunyeul Talchum preservation association is not as preeminent as other Korean mask dances, it has been transmitted by performers from Hwanghae province with its unique masks and instrumental accompaniment. These performers and educators dedication to maintaining Eunyeul Talchum's attributes contribute largely to the Preservation Association's successful settlement in Incheon. Thus, the researcher examines which idea formed to subsist the Eunyeul Talchum preservation association.
