The Development and Evaluation of an Incontinence Intervention Program for the Elderly Women at Elderly Welfare Center

  • Purpose. The elderly with UI experienced urine leakage for a long time. The prevalence of UI has increased and it makes costly. Particularly, the elderly were reluctant to visit a hospital or a clinic for the reasons of modesty and poverty. To solve this problem, incontinence intervention programs should be provided at the elderly welfare center. The purpose of this research was to develop Incontinence Intervention Program for the Elderly Women (IIPE) and evaluate in its effect. Methods. The study design was quasi-experimental with pre and post-test. The study was performed for ten weeks at one elderly welfare center, Seoul, Korea. The subjects were gathered through an official announcement and informed consent was obtained. IIPE, in this study, was consisted of diagnosis, education, exercise and evaluation. The study variables were PFM exercise adherence, pelvic muscle strength, Continence self-efficacy, geriatric depression and incontinence stress. The effects of the IIPE on PFM exercise adherence, pelvic muscle strength, Continence self-efficacy, geriatric depression and incontinence stress were also evaluated. Results. The mean age of the subjects was 75.2 years. The average attendance was 6.2 times. The IIPE improved PFM exercise adherence, intra-vaginal contraction power and CSE significantly. But it was not significant in incontinence stress and geriatric depression. Other important results were that the two-finger test and urine stream interruption were more useful for elderly women with rigid vaginas in teaching and evaluating. Conclusion. The Findings suggest that IIPE is effective to the community-residing elderly. Further investigation is needed on a long-term basis with control group.

  • 본 연구에서는 예비교사의 인공지능 융합교육 역량 강화를 위한 캡스톤 디자인 기법 활용 인공지능 융합교육 프로그램을 개발하고 효과를 검증하였다. 개발된 교육 프로그램은 예비교사들이 스크래치 프로그래밍과 머신러닝포키즈, 캡스톤 디자인의 이해를 바탕으로, 인공지능 활용 융합 수업을 위한 주제 선정, 수업 설계 및 개발 후, 마이크로티칭을 하고 동료 평가 및 피드백을 하도록 조직되었다. 이는 2022년 1학기 K대학의 교양 강좌를 수강하는 예비교사들에게 처치되었다. 그 결과, 실험 대상자들의 인공지능 교수효능감의 사전-사후 t-검정에서 통계적으로 유의한 효과가 있음을 확인되었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 비 정보과 교사들의 효과적인 SW 교육 교수효능감 함양을 위하여 팀 프로젝트 기반 융합 교육 프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발된 교육 내용은 융합교육 및 팀 프로젝트에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 수학, 과학, 정보 등이 융합된 다양한 프로젝트를 실습한 뒤, 직접 문제 해결을 위한 프로젝트의 설계 및 개발과 발표, 동료 평가 및 피드백의 과정으로 구성되어 있다. 이는 10주간 비 정보과 교사들에게 처치되었고, 사전-사후 t-검정 결과, 통계적으로 유의한 향상을 나타내었다. 하지만 본 연구의 실험은 단일집단을 대상으로 하였기 때문에 추후 통제집단과의 비교를 통하여 향상에 대한 통계적 비교가 필요로 된다.

Analyzing the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) education program based on design thinking process (디자인씽킹 프로세스 기반의 인공지능(AI) 교육 프로그램 적용 효과분석)

  • At the beginning of the discussion of AI education in K-12 education, the study was conducted to develop and apply an AI education program based on Design Thinking and analyze the effects of the AI education programs. In the AI education program, students explored and defined the AI problems they were interested in, gathered the necessary data to build an AI model, and then developed a project using scratch. In order to analyze the effectiveness of the AI education program, the change of learner's perception of the value of AI and the change of AI efficacy were analyzed. The overall perception of the AI project was also analyzed. As a result, AI efficacy was significantly increased through the experience of carrying out the project according to the Design Thinking process. In addition, the efficacy of solving problems with AI was influenced by the level of use of programming languages. The learner's overall perception of the AI project was positive, and the perceptions of each stage of the AI project (AI problem understanding and problem exploration, practice, problem definition, problem solving idea implementation, evaluation and presentation) was also positive. This positive perception was higher among students with high level of programming language use. Based on these results, the implications for AI education were suggested.

Effect of Direct Breastfeeding Program for Premature Infants in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (신생아집중치료실 미숙아를 위한 직접모유수유 프로그램의 효과: 비동등성 대조군 전후 설계)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effects of a direct breastfeeding program for premature infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted during August 2016 to April 2017. Sixty mothers of premature infants were assigned to the experimental (n = 31) or control groups (n = 29). The program was comprised of breastfeeding education and direct breastfeeding support. The experimental and control groups were provided with education and counseling on breastfeeding at the time of admission and discharge. In the experimental group, the mothers initiated oral feeding with direct breastfeeding and engaged in breastfeeding at least seven times during the NICU stay. The collected data were analyzed by the χ2-test and repeated measures ANOVA using an SPSS program. Results: The experimental group showed a higher direct breastfeeding practice rate (χ2 = 19.29, p < .001), breastfeeding continuation rate (χ2 = 3.76, p < .001), and self-efficacy (F = 25.37, p < .001) than the control group except for maternal attachment. Conclusion: The direct breastfeeding program in the NICU has significant effects on the practice and continuation rate of breastfeeding and breastfeeding self-efficacy. Therefore, this program can be applied in the NICU settings where direct breastfeeding is limited.

Health Promoting Behavior and Self-Efficacy of Normal Weight and Obese Middle School Students by Gender

  • Purpose : This study examines the differences in self-efficacy and health promoting behavior between obese students and normal weight students by gender; it tries to obtain basic data for the health guidance of obese students. Methods : Data were collected from 360 students (90 normal weight males, 90 obese males, 90 normal weight females, 90 obese females) using questionnaires about general characteristics, self-efficacy, and health promoting behavior. There were analyzed with descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation), and a x$^2$ test, ANCOVA, and a Pearson's correlation of coefficient at the 0.05 significance level by using the SAS (version 8.01) Win Program. Results : The score of self-efficacy appears that in the case of boys, obese students are significantly lower than their normal weight counterparts (F=25.85, p=<.0001), while in the case of girls there is no significant difference between the two groups (F=.01, p=.9118). The score of health promoting behavior appears that in the case of boys, obese students are significantly lower than their normal weight counterparts (F=28.61, p=<.0001), while in the case of girls there is no significant difference between the two groups (F=1.25, p=.2643). The relation of self-efficacy and health promoting behavior shows a statistically significant correlation in all cases: obese boys (r=.69, p=<.0001), normal weight boys (r=.51, p=<.0001), obese girls (r=.67, p=<.0001), and normal weight girls (r=.49, p=<.0001). Conclusions : An evaluation study needs to see whether a program to encourage the self-efficacy of obese boys can be effective in health promoting behavior or weight control in the long run. As in this study more than half of the obese girls have mild-level obesity, a follow-up study should be conducted to examine the self-efficacy and health promoting behavior between middle or highly obese students and normal weight students.

Effects of Weight Reduction Program on Body Weight, Self Esteem and Self Efficacy of Chronic Mentally Ill Persons (체중관리 프로그램이 만성정신질환자의 체중, 자아존중감 및 자기효능감에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of a weight reduction program on the body weight, BMI, self-esteem, and self-efficacy of chronic mentally ill persons. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design was employed. Participants were 46 chronic mentally ill persons who agreed to participate in this study, and were assigned to an experimental group (n=23) and a control group (n=23). The weight reduction program was modified by the author, based on the Wellness program (Lilly Pharmaceutical Company, 2003), Lee (2007) and Kim (2013). Data analysis with frequency, ${\chi}^2$-test, Fisher's exact test, and t-test was performed using SPSS/Win 18.0 version. Results: The results showed a significant decrease in body weight and BMI and an increase in self-esteem in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: The weight reduction program had a positive effect on body weight, BMI, and self-esteem. Evaluation of drug compliance and vocational rehabilitation is recommended for long term effect of the program and conduct of further studies will be required for use of various resources for self-efficacy for inclusion in drug education in a program for improved health outcome.

Development and Evaluation of an Integrated Health Management Program for Psychiatric Patients with Metabolic Syndrome (정신질환자를 위한 대사증후군 통합건강관리 프로그램 개발 및 평가)

  • Purpose: This study developed an integrated health management program for metabolic syndrome in psychiatric patients and examined its effects on self-efficacy, healthy lifestyle, physiological indicators, knowledge of metabolic syndrome, attitudes toward healthy behavior, and social support. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest posttest design was used. The participants were 65 psychiatric patients with metabolic syndrome in psychiatric rehabilitation centers, with 33 in the experimental group and 32 in the control group. The experimental group participants engaged in daily mobile application and walking exercises three times a week for more than 40 minutes over 8 weeks, while those in the control group were provided education booklets. The outcomes were measured using self-report questionnaires, anthropometrics, and blood analyses. Intervention effects were analyzed using the independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, ANCOVA, and Ranked ANCOVA. Results: The experimental group showed a significant increase in self-efficacy (F = 8.85, p = .004, ηp2 = .13) and knowledge of metabolic syndrome (t = 2.60, p = .012, d = 0.60) compared to the control group. Additionally, the experimental group demonstrated a significant decrease in waist circumference (Z = - 2.34, p = .009, d = 0.58) and body mass index (Z = - 1.91, p = .028, d = 0.47) compared to the control group. Conclusion: The integrated health management program for psychiatric patients with metabolic syndrome is effective in improving self-efficacy and knowledge of metabolic syndrome and decreasing physiological indicators such as waist circumference and body mass index.

The Development and Evaluation of a Motivation-Strengthening Obesity Management Program for Obese Subjects with Visual Impairment (시각장애 비만대상자를 위한 동기강화 비만관리프로그램의 개발 및 효과평가)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and apply a motivation-strengthening obesity management program for obese subjects with visual impairment and evaluate its effects. Methods: The program development and evaluation periods were from March to August 2018. The study design was an experimental study of non-equality, control repeat design. 25 subjects in the experimental group participated in the 12-week obesity management program and the 26 people in the control group did not. Results: The motivation-strengthening obesity management program included stretching exercises for 30 minutes in the morning five times a week. In addition, counseling, education, and group discussions were continued once a week for motivational strengthening. Special custom exercises for blind patients were also completed once a week simultaneously. Both of these activities were continued for 50 minutes a week for a total of 12 weeks. Measurements were recorded periodically to identify the sustained effects of the program. The obese subjects with visual impairment improved their knowledge of obesity, perceived disability, self-efficacy of exercise, and quality of life related to obesity through the motivational obesity management program. Waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and fasting blood sugar were also improved in obese subjects. Conclusion: The study findings indicate that this program could be an active intervention for the control of weight gain in participants with visual impairment. Therefore, the motivation-strengthening program based on the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation& Evaluation) model could be an effective strategy for better health outcomes of obese subjects with visual impairment.

A Development and Effects of Simulation-based Education Program on Emergency Airway Management (시뮬레이션 기반 응급기도관리 교육 프로그램 개발 및 효과)

  • Purpose: After developing and imparting knowledge of a simulation-based emergency airway management education program for nursing students, this study identified the effects of the education by evaluating emergency airway management knowledge, Clinical Performance Ability, self-efficacy, and critical thinking disposition. Method: The participants were 30 nursing students. Data were collected from October 14 to November 11, 2017, and analyzed using IBM SPSS Version 22.0. Results: The simulation-based nursing education program was developed and applied based on the ADDIE model involving five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. Comparing the pre-and post-education results, we observed statistically significant improvement when considering emergency airway management knowledge (t=-9.98, p<0.001), Clinical Performance Ability (t=-23.90, p<0.001), self-efficacy (t=-16.77, p<0.001), and critical thinking disposition (t=-5.04, p<0.001). Conclusions: Simulation-based emergency airway management training program is an effective educational program that enhances the emergency airway management knowledge, Clinical Performance Ability, self-efficacy, and critical thinking disposition of nursing students. We believe that the program developed in this study contributes towards improvement of patient nursing quality by enhancing the ability of nursing students to cope with emergencies in practice. Furthermore, it can be applied for educating new nursing students, and contribute to the development of nursing practices.
