  • Purpose As Korean economy has been sluggish in recent years, firms' interest in publicly financed projects has increased due to the relatively increasing proportion in the economy. Since 1999, publicly financed projects in Korea need to undergo preliminary feasibility study to evaluate economic efficiency and policy quality if they are larger than a certain scale. The benefits of public projects are one of the most important factors in the preliminary feasibility study but are difficult to estimate due to their nature. Design/methodology/approach This study estimates the benefits of the agricultural soil information database, a public database in Korea. The method used in the study is the stated preference method which is formally used in Korea's preliminary feasibility study. Data are collected through surveys and a logit model is constructed to be estimated by the maximum likelihood estimation method. Findings As the first study evaluating a public database, this study can be used as a baseline in all public database projects developed in the future. In addition, this study can contribute to improving the understanding of both private companies and public organizations who are interested in the cost-benefit analysis and estimation procedure for the publicly financed projects.

  • This study aims to measure the lower tail dependence as risk contagion from the U.S. economy to 18 developing countries affecting FDI inflows using time-series data from 2005 to 2019. Firstly, we utilize four dynamic copula models, namely, Student-t, Clayton, rotated survival Gumbel, and rotated survival Joe, to measure the tail dependence structure between the U.S. and each developing country's real GDP growth. Secondly, we use the regression model to explore the contagion effects on FDI inflows. The results show that there is evidence of the tail dependence between the U.S and developing economies, indicating the presence of the contagion effects. Primarily, we observe that the degree of contagion effects of the global financial crisis varies across countries; a strong impact is observed in Chinese, South African, Russian, Colombian, and Mexican economic growth. Furthermore, we found significant contagion risk affecting FDI inflows positively in China, Indonesia, Columbia, Morocco, and negatively in the Philippines, Bulgaria, and South Africa. This study demonstrates the usefulness of the copulas model in terms of examining contagion. Our findings shed light on the influence of sound policies and regulations to cope with both positive and negative consequences of the contagion on the capital movement.

  • The budget deficit is closely related to expansionary fiscal policy as a fiscal instrument to encourage economic growth. This study aims to apply optimal control theory in the Keynesian macroeconomic model for the economy, so that optimal growth can be found. Macroeconomic variables include GDP, consumption, investment, exports, imports, and budget deficit as control variables. This study uses secondary data in the form of time series, the time period 1990 to 2018. Performing optimal control will result in optimal fiscal policy. The optimal determination is done through simulation, for the period 2019-2023. The discrete optimal control problem is to minimize the objective function in the form of a quadratic function against the deviation of the state variable and control variable from the target value and the optimal value. Meanwhile, the constraint is Keynes' macroeconomic model. The results showed that the optimal value of macroeconomic variables has a deviation from the target values consisting of: consumption, investment, exports, imports, GDP, and budget deficit. The largest deviation from the average during the simulation occurs in GDP, followed by investment, exports, and the budget deficit. Meanwhile, the lowest average deviation is found in imports.

  • Following the global financial crisis, the global value chain contracted, and characteristics of "reverse globalization" of the economy and trade gradually emerged. This is due to the term "reverse globalization" referring to a shift away from globalization. Within a short period of time, the phenomenon known as "reverse globalization" developed as an inescapable obstacle, coinciding with the development and dissemination of the COVID-19 virus. At some time in the distant future, the "reverse globalization" of economic trade and the "globalization" of the digital economy will co-dominate the shifting trend of the global economic landscape. This will happen gradually over time. The goal of this research is to look at the minor changes that happened in the methods and techniques used by the economic mechanism known as "globalization against the flow." It employs Chinese smart manufacturing companies as a model and proposes a digital drive model to investigate the prospects and constraints of smart manufacturing technology enterprise innovation development under "reverse globalization," with the goal of establishing a digital innovation development path. The theoretical insights given in this study have the potential to serve as a reference for China as it attempts to build a new growth pattern based on a double-cycle and promote a new type of globalization.

  • An optimal selection problem of SCM system is one of the critical issues for the company's competitiveness and performance under global economy. This paper presents a hierarchy model consisted of characteristic factors for introducing SCM system and an AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) based decision-making model for SCM system evaluation and selection. The proposed model can systematically construct the objectives of SCM system selection to meet the business goals. This paper focuses on selecting an optimal SCM system considering both all decision factors and sub-decision factors of a hierarchy model. Especially, the benefit/cost analysis is applied to choose SCM system. A case study shows the feasibility of the proposed model and the model can help a company to make better decision-making in the SCM system selection problem.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze whether the spatial externalities of agglomeration economy of manufacturing has been changed or not, from 1991 to 2005. To find this spatial SUR model was used to consider covariance of each equation and it was estimated by 3SLS. This paper found that spatial externalities has been decreased and there is economy of scale in same sector. As a result, we can conclude that there is industrial specialization in region whereas interregional linkage are weaken. This finding supports the desirability of creating supra-regional agencies promoting interregional linkage because supra-regional agencies can internalize spatial externality of agglomeration economy.

  • In this paper, some ideas are proposed to establish the infrastructure of all-electric houses which are able to reduce primary energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission by adopting heat pump systems and induction heating cookers excluding the use of fossil fuel energy. This electrification concept is based on the consumption of only one type of energy which means electricity as secondary energy and the conventional fossil fuel energy is just consumed to generate electricity as primary energy. All-electric house is laid on the extension of the hydrogen economy in a long-term viewpoint so that the effectiveness of this new conceptual house is estimated analyzing the reduction of $CO_2$ emission. In this analysis, the balance of electricity supply and demand is considered including the construction of new power plants by renewable energy such as nuclear, IGCC and fuel cell because decarbonization is an essential element of hydrogen technology and economy and this action is accomplished in both supply and demand side of electricity. The results are able to contribute to develop various useful hydrogen policies and strategies and some detail researches are required previously to make the best application of this new conceptual house.

  • Korea economy's latent growth rate has already been decreased about 4%. During 1983-1989, the latent growth rate was 8%, before the foreign exchange crisis, 1990-1997 was 6.7%, and during $2000{\sim}2004$, it had been decreased 4.4%. The latent growth rate means economy growth rate which one nation can achieve capital, labor, and factors as applying these. Our economy growth rate was 8% in 1980s, but it had been decreased about 6.7% during $1990{\sim}1997$, after 2000, it remarkably decreased 4.8% which shows weakness of our economy's strength. This study attempts to investigate about export growth factor of venture company in our nation's growth that depends on export. This thesis studied the companies continuance and growth in external environment's regular correlation and casual relationship which surround company's factors and internal. Also, the external environment, which surrounds company, can be thought that company can't control itself, so that the company's continuance and growth can be decided because of its internal primary factors. This thesis establishes and analyzes the study model that how factors can affect to company's growth.

  • Online game is the most popular representative example of the fast growing virtual world. Also, influence of interaction between virtual and real world is getting greater, and much discussion about virtual world and economy. However, it is often overlooked that the types of virtual economy can be very diverse depending on conditions of social and legal environment and policies of companies. Therefore, the influence of interactions between virtual world and real world is not managed by government and companies properly enough. We propose that virtual world is a system which has six types of agents and five types of transactions. Then there are twenty-four combinations, and we illustrated four typical combinations among them to explain practical applications of our model. The purpose of our categorization is not only to help to understand characteristics but also to provide insights for management and improvement for virtual worlds.
