The demand for skyscrapers is increasing worldwide. Until now, various lateral resistance structures have been used for lateral displacement control of high-rise buildings. An outrigger damper system has been introduced recently to improve lateral dynamic response control performance further. However, a study of outrigger damper system is yet to be sufficiently investigated. In this study, time history analysis was performed to investigate the control performance of an outrigger damper system of high-rise building under eccentric loading. To do this, an actual scale 3-dimensional tall building model with an outrigger damper system was prepared. The control performance of the outrigger damper system was evaluated by varying stiffness and damping values. On the top floor torsional angle response to the earthquake load, was greatly affected by damping value. And the displacement response was affected greatly by the stiffness value and damping value of damper system. In conclusion, it is necessary to select the proper damping and stiffness values of the outrigger damper system.
This study deals with the generalization of the Elliptic Restricted Three-Body Problem (ER3BP) by considering the effects of radiation and oblate spheroid primaries. This may illustrate a gas giant exoplanet orbiting its host star with eccentric orbit. In the three dimensional case, this generalization may possess two additional equilibrium points ($L_{6,7}$, out-of-plane). We determine the existence of $L_{6,7}$ in ER3BP under the effects of radiation (bigger primary) and oblateness (small primary). We analytically derive the locations of $L_{6,7}$ and assume initial approximations of (${\mu}-1$, ${\pm}\sqrt{3A_2}$), where ${\mu}$ and $A_2$ are the mass parameter and oblateness factor, respectively. The fixed locations are then determined. Our results show that the locations of $L_{6,7}$ are periodic and affected by $A_2$ and the radiation factor ($q_1$).
We investigate dynamical evolution of gas in barred galaxies using a high-resolution, grid-based hydrodynamic simulations on two-dimensional cylindrical geometry. Non-axisymmetric gravitational potential of the bar is represented by the Ferrers ellipsoids independent of time. Previous studies on this subject used either particle approaches or treated the bar potential in an incorrect way. The gaseous medium is assumed to be infinitesimally-thin, isothermal, unmagnetized, and initially uniform. To study the effects of various environments on the gas evolution, we vary the gas sound speed as well as the mass of a SMBH located at the center of a galaxy. An introduction of the bar potential produces bar substructure including a pair of dust lane shocks, a nuclear ring, and nuclear spirals. The sound speed affects the position and strength of the bar substructure significantly. As the sound speed increases, the dust lane shocks tend to move closer to the bar major axis, resulting in a smaller-size nuclear ring at the galactocentric radius of about 1 kpc. Nuclear spirals that develop inside a nuclear ring can persist only when either sound speed is low or in the presence of a SMBH; they would otherwise be destroyed by the ring material with eccentric orbits. The mass inflow rates of gas toward the galactic center is also found to be proportional to the sound speed. We find that the sound speed should be 15 km/s or larger if the mass inflow rate is to explain nuclear activities in Seyfert galaxies.
A nonlinear, three-dimensional finite element analysis was conducted on six intermediate L-shaped spandrel beams using the "ANSYS Civil FEM" program. The beams were constructed and tested in the laboratory under eccentric concentrated load at mid-span to obtain a combined loading case: torsion, bending, and shear. The reinforcement case parameters were as follows: without reinforcement, with longitudinal reinforcement only, and reinforced with steel bars and stirrups. All beams were tested under two different combined loading conditions: T/V = 545 mm (high eccentricity) and T/V = 145 mm (low eccentricity). The failure of the plain beams was brittle, and the addition of longitudinal steel bars increased beam strength, particularly under low eccentricity. Transverse reinforcement significantly affected the strength at high eccentricities, that is, at high torque. A program can predict accurately the behavior of these beams under different reinforcement cases, as well as under different ratios of combined loadings. The ANSYS model accurately predicted the loads and deflections for various types of reinforcements in spandrel beams, and captured the critical crack regions of these beams.
Given the yield shear of a single-story inelastic structure with simple eccentricity, the problem of strength distribution among the resisting elements is investigated, with respect to minimize its torsional response during a ground motion. Making the hypothesis that the peak accelerations, of both modes of vibration, are determined from the inelastic acceleration spectrum, and assuming further that a peak response quantity is obtained by an appropriate combination rule (square root of sum of squares-SRSS or complete quadratic combination-CQC), the first aim of this study is to present an interaction relationship between the yield shear and the maximum torque that may be developed in such systems. It is shown that this torque may be developed, with equal probability, in both directions (clockwise and anticlockwise), but as it is not concurrent with the yield shear, a rational design should be based on a combination of the yield shear with a fraction of the peak torque. The second aim is to examine the response of such model structures under characteristic ground motions. These models provide a rather small peak rotation and code provisions that are based on such principles (NBCC-1995, UBC-1994, EAK-2000, NZS-1992) are superiors to EC8 (1993) and to systems with a stiffness proportional strength distribution.

The surface reconstruction problem from a set of wire-frame contours is very important in diverse fields such as medical imaging or computer animation. In this paper, surface triangulation method is proposed for solving the problem. Generally, many optimal triangulation techniques suffer from the large computation time but heuristic approaches may produce very unnatural surface when contours are widely different in shape. To compensate the disadvantages of these approaches, we propose a new heuristic triangulation method which iteratively decomposes the surface generation problem from a band (a pair of vertices chain) into tow subproblems from two sub-bands. Generally, conventional greedy heuristic contour triangulation algorithm, suffer from the drastic error propagation during surface modeling when the adjacent contours are different in shape. Our divide-and-conquer algorithm, called band partitioning algorithm, processes eccentric parts of the contours first with more global information. Consequently, the resulting facet model becomes more stable and natural even though the shapes are widely different. An interesting property of our method is hat it supports multi-resolution capability in surface modeling time. According to experiments, it is proved to be very robust and efficient in many applications.

The aim of this study is to develop a vertical vibration compensator that attenuates the vertical vibration of ships. The vibration compensator was designed according to the principle of generating vertical excitation forces by rotating two eccentric bodies of the same mass in opposite directions at the same rotational speed. In addition, the structural stability was analyzed using the finite element method. The maximum stress in the drive shaft was 95.6 MPa, which was approximately 35% of the allowable stress of the shaft material (SM45C, 270 MPa). The acceleration signals of the vibrator compensator body and the testbed were determined to evaluate the efficiency of the vibration compensator and the designed excitation forces. Subsequently, the excitation forces were estimated based on the relationship between force and acceleration. The estimated results were very close to the theoretical values with an error of less than 3%.
So-called sclerosing hemangioma of the lung is a rare benign neoplasm which usually presents with a coin lesion detected through routine chest X-ray. We report two cases showing characteristic cytologic appearances which have been rarely reported. Both cases were young females with coin lesions in the lung. Fine needle aspiration of each case revealed unique but some different cytologic features. Case 1 showed bland-looking polygonal epithelial cells resembling bronchioloalveolar cells haying predominantly papillary configurations with loosely arranged solid sheets or isolated cells. Cytoplasms were plump, cyanophilic, and finely granular, with eccentric nuclei. The nuclei were usually monotonous, round-to-ovoid, and vesicular with a small but conspicuous nucleolus. In comparison to case 1, case 2 revealed largely loose pavement-like solid sheets or clusters rather than papillary patterns in the hemorrhagic background. The size of tumor cells were a little smaller than that of case 1. Bronchioloalveolar carcinoma and papillary adenocarcinoma of metastatic origin were considered to be one of the important differential diagnoses with these cytologic features. Histologically, both cases exhibited findings compatible with so-called sclerosing hemangioma of the lung.

In this paper, concrete-filled steel tubular columns encased with precast reinforced concrete were studied. Four eccentrically loaded columns and a concentrically loaded column were tested to investigate the axial load-carrying capacity. The test parameters were the use of fiber reinforcement for cover concrete, eccentricity, column length, and lateral reinforcement. The maximum axial loads of the specimens agreed with the nominal strengths predicted by KBC 2009. However, in some specimens, the load carrying capacity quickly decreased after the peak strength due to spalling of the cover concrete.
The aerodynamic performance of a cross-flow fan is strongly influenced by the various design factors of a rear-guider and a stabilizer. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of a rear-guider and a stabilizer on the aerodynamic performance of a cross-flow fan. The design factors considered in this paper are a rear-guider clearance, a stabilizer clearance, and a stabilizer setup angle, respectively. This experiment was carried out with a constant revolution number of 700 rpm in a cross-flow fan installed in the fan tester. The static pressure, flowrate, torque, and revolution number were measured in this paper. Also, the pressure coefficient and the efficiency were analysed according to the various assembly conditions using a stabilizer setup angle, a stabilizer clearance, and a rear-guider clearance in the indoor room air-conditioner.
