This study focused on the relationships among emotionality, eating behavior problems, and behavior problems in a sample of 185 four- to five-year-old children attending kindergarten or a day care center in Seoul. The values were all measured by their teachers. The collected data were analyzed using simple regression and hierarchical multiple regression. The main results of this study were as follows. First, children's positive and negative emotionality each exerted negative and positive effects on their internalizing behavior problems. Second, children's positive emotionality had a negative influence on their eating behavior problems. On the other hand, children's negative emotionality had a positive influence on eating behavior problems. Finally, effect of children's positive emotionality on their eating behavior problems was partially mediated by internalizing behavior problems. On the other hand, the effect of children's negative emotionality on their eating behavior problems was totally mediated by their internalizing behavior problems.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of eating habits and food preferences on the adoptive behavior of children with intellectual disabilities. Survey questionnaires were distributed to six special education schools located in the Daegu-Kyungbuk area, and data were collected from 552 families and teachers with intellectually disabled students. Identification of eating habits began with a factor analysis, and the results were a five-factor solution. Among the five patterns, factors 1 and 2 were significantly related with behavior problems of intellectually disabled children. Further, food preferences of the children were significantly related with adoptive behavior problems. The findings of this study clearly indicate that eating habits as well as food preferences are important factors in identifying adoptive behavior problems in intellectually disabled children. Based on the findings of this study, similarities and differences in eating habits are discussed, and implications for children are provided.

The subjects of this study were 510 high school students(boys 240, girls 270) in Cheongju area. The questionaires were distributed to 510 students, self-evaluated and collected from Mar. 23 to Apr. 4, 1998. The results of this study were as follows: First, the third grade students of high school were suffering from many stress. The rate of such students was 33.9% of total students. Second, eating problems of students were unbalanced diet, irregular diet, omitting a meal. The most irregular meal was breakfast, especially girl students ate breakfast more irregular than boy students. Third, the higher the level of stress of stress of the students, the more eating problem existed. The more students met with stress, the more eating behavior was irregular in eating quantity. In conclusion, stress influences eating behavior of high school students negatively. Therefore, to improve eating behavior of students who are suffering from stress, the program on stress release and nutrition education should be developed and supplied to them.
Alcohol has as much effect on our lives as the different taste for foods that people have all of the world. Recently, the interest about drinking habits has increased with the rise in health problems for college students with poor health related behavior. The purpose of this study was to evaluate alcohol consumption, smoking and eating behavior of college students in the Kyungsan area. This survey was administered through questionnaires, and the subjects were 177 male and 189 female college students. The self-administered questionnaire was composed of questions concerning social-demographic factors, general characteristics, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption and eating behavior. The data were analyzed by $\chi$$^2$-test and t-test. According to the survey results, almost of all of the survey subjects drank alcohol. The mean alcohol consumption level per day for male students (33.9${\pm}$29.7g) were significantly higher than for the female students (18.5${\pm}$16.5g), and more than 39.6% of the subjects drank alcohol 1-3 days a week. Alcohol consumption changed the students eating habits. Most students had dietary problems such as fast eating, skipping meal and spending too much money on fast food. The survey about eating behavior of the students showed the male students had more problems when compared with female students. Alcohol consumption levels and alcohol dependence showed a significant positive correlation with smoking cigarettes (r=0.386, p<0.001). The correlation coefficient between alcohol consumption and eating behavior was negatively correlated with skipping meals (r=-0.121, p<0.001). However, there were significant and positive correlations with overeating when students were depressed (r=0.130, p<0.05), with eating meals when watching TV or videos (r=0.085) and with spending money on fast food(r=0.235, p<0.235). The results indicate that health related behaviors of college students in the present study were fairly good. More attention should be given to college students and their habits of skipping meal, alcohol drinking and smoking, and the fairly good students can act as a model for correct dietary behavior so as to improve overall student health.

This study explored the eating attitudes, dieting habits, weight perception and exercise behavior of Korean women. Self-reported questionnaires were administered to 724 Korean college students. Compared to males, female students felt themselves overweight and dissatisfied with their body and desired to lose weight although both groups were within the range of the national standard. Female students dieted more, while males exercised more. Eighteen percent of females showed disturbed eating behavior. The score for disturbed eating behavior was highly related to weight perception in the female students. These results suggest that Korean college women have a high prevalence of eating disturbances without having actual weight problems. A majority of the women desired to lose weight which may be due to the misperception of their body weight and fatness. However, they did not adopt appropriate strategies such as doing regular exercise to reduce their body weight.
This study investigated difference of general eating habit and eating-out behavior between men and women of university students in Gyonggi area. The survey was conducted from 1 March to 1 April 2010, in Gyeonggi area. Self-administered questionnaires were collected from 250 students in Gyeonggi area. The research results show, first of all, that they eat twice a day, and they usually do not eat breakfast. The main reason why they do not eat breakfast is that they do not have enough time to eat. Between men and women, there is significant difference in eating amount and eating speed at 0.001 levels. Men's problems of eating behavior are irregular meal time and speed of eating time, and in case of women, they do not have a meal regularly and overeat at one time. Second, they usually eat out for a meal and gather with friends once to three times a week. Also, the lunch set-menu promotion is the most preferred one. Third, when men choose a restaurant, they consider in order of taste, convenience, amount, and service; women consider in order of atmosphere, taste, convenience, and service. Taste is the most important for men; atmosphere is the most important consideration for women. Taste (at 0.01 levels), sanitation (at 0.05 levels), and atmosphere (at 0.001 levels) are significantly different between men and women in choosing restaurant.
In mordern society, nutritional and appetite disorders occur in epidemic proportions and are serious health harzards. Obesity and diabetes affect over 30% of American population, while eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa occur in a growing number of adolescences and young adults. The changes in various sociocultural aspects with the introduction of Westernized culture have had the effect of increasing the risk of same problems in Korea. Disorderd eating patterns are a primary symptom of numerous psychiatric disorders and loss of appetite and cachexia, during illness or in the elderly, preclude proper medical treatment for restoring good health or preserving life. Increased understanding of the systems of the body and brain, related to energy and nutrient balance, may help us to treatment and ultimately prevent these commom disorders. In this review, the author highlights the psychobiological mechanisms or factors which are associated with eating behavior, especially in the view of intake psychobiology. This review would be concentrated on 1) the theoretical concepts and theories of eating behavior ; 2) the psychobiological determinants of food intake ; and 3) the psychobiological control of eating behavior.
The purpose of this study was to examine 1) the relationship between the vegetable eating behavior of care givers and that of children, 2) the effectiveness of nutrition education with vegetable playing using direct visual stimulating programs on vegetable eating behavior of preschool children, and 3) the times and period of nutrition education with vegetable playing for significant changes on vegetable eating behavior. A total number of 56 individuals, aged 42 to 66 months old, participated in this study in which three kinds of vegetables (30 g)/meal were served per individual, and vegetable eating behavior was measured by the residue on the dish during 5 weeks (25 days). To the simple visual stimulating group, vegetable dish was served without education, and other groups included education 1 group (nutrition education 1 time/week), education 2 group (nutrition education 2 times/week), and education 3 group (nutrition education 3 times/week) with simple visual stimulation by the vegetable dish. The results showed 1) the significant relationship (P<0.001) between the vegetable eating behavior of the care giver and that of children by analysis of the questionnaire, 2) the effectiveness of nutrition education using vegetable playing on vegetable eating behavior of preschool children (P<0.05), and 3) the significant changes in vegetable eating behavior by the 3rd week in the education 3 group. This study shows that food neophobia caused behavior problems in children regarding vegetable eating and repeated exposure was able to reduce food neophobia.
This research was carried out to investigate the health condition, eating behavior and nutritional status of female high school students. The survey was conducted from July 5 to July 18, 1996 with 524 first grade students(15 to 17 years old) of H girl's high school using the questionnaire method. The levels of depression and anxiety were measured by CED-S and Spielburger's STAI-S, respectively. In addition, nutrient intakes were estimated by Convenience Method. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The mean depression and anxiety scores of the subjects were 22.23 and 26.00, respectively. The proportion of subjects with normal weight(BM) was 72.1%. The perceived health condition of subjects was moderate and 15.1% of subjects were anemic. The subjectiv health symptoms were feeling drowsy, tired eyesight, getting tired easily, catching cold frequently and frequent headache. 2. The irregularity of breakfast was high in the subjects. The problems of the eating behavior were irregular meals, unbalanced diets, excessive meals, skipping meals and food prejudice. Forty-nine percent of subjects had good eating behaviors. 3. The mean energy intake of subjects was 1717Kcal. The proportion of energy derived from carbohydrates, proteins and fats were 62.70%, 13.89% and 23.42%, respectively. The subjects consumed 59.59g of protein, 13.07mg iron, 637.49mg calcium, 553.64 R.E. vitamin A, 0.94mg vitamin B1, 1.08mg vitamin B2, 15.15mg niacin and 49.59mg vitamin C, respectively. Except niacin, other nutrient intakes were less than the Korean recommended dietary allowances(RDA), especially, iron. 4. Mother's occupation, subject's pocket money and perceived health condition were negatively correlated with eating behavior, And the depression and anxiety of subjects showed wrong eating behaviors. The effects of socioeconomic variables, depression, anxiety and perceived health condition on the nutrient intake were different depending on the kind of nutrient. The nutrient intakes differed significantly among the group of different eating behavior. The eating behavior was significantly correlated with the nutrient intake.
