This research was performed to investigate the protective effect of Yangguksanwha-tang(YST) agaist ischemic damage in PC 12 cells. To elucidate the mechanism of the protective effect of YST on ischemic insult. cell viability and changes in activities of Superoxide dismutase. Glutathione Peroxidase. Catalase. capase 3 and the production of Malondialdehyde were observed after treating PC12 cells with YSt which was metabolized by rat liver homogenate. (omitted)

동해 지명의 변천과 표기의 다양성을 고찰하고, 이를 바탕으로 54개 국가도서관 목록레코드를 조사하여 동해관련 자료의 표기 실태 및 특성을 비교 분석하였으며, 결과를 요약하면 아래와 같다. 첫째, 동해관련 자료가 대부분 미국, 러시아, 일본 등 일부 특정 국가도서관에 집중되어 있는 반면, 한 건도 검색되지 않은 곳이 5개관에 달했다. 둘째, 각국의 국가도서관에서 동해관련 자료의 표제 키워드는 일본에서 동해를 지칭하는 용어인 '일본해'로 표기한 경우가 67.9%, '동해' 29.6%, 이들 용어의 병기가 2.5%로 나타났다. 셋째, 각국의 국가도서관에서 동해관련 자료가운데 '일본해' 또는 '일본해(지리한정어)'라는 의미로 주제명을 나타낸 경우가 86.9%, '동해' 1.2%, 일반주제명이거나 주제명이 나타나 있지 않은 경우가 11.9%로 나타났다.

This experiment was carried out to evaluate the microclimate of wheat canopy, growth and yield characteristics of wheat under north-south and east-west row orientation. The variety used in this experiment was "AG South 2000", which was developed in USA. Solar radiation, air temperature, relative humidity, and soil temperature were monitored by data logger from March to May in 2002, The ratio of light penetration to the bottom from the upper canopy was 36.8% in north-south and 21.4% in east-west row orientation. Temporal march of light penetration to the bottom from March to May decreased as wheat developed canopy structure and decreased a little from May as plant were matured. The highest light penetration to the bottom from upper canopy occurred at 13：00 in both north-south and east-west row orientations, respectively which were 36 times in north-south and 27 times in east-west row orientation, respectively. Daily maximum temperature at the bottom of canopy occurred at 14：00 with 29 times in north-south, while 19 times were obtained at 14：00 and 15：00, respectively in east-west row orientation. Relative humidity at the bottom of the canopy in east-west yow orientation showed higher than that of north-south row orientation. Occurrence of daily maximum soil temperature of north-south showed one hour later compared with east-west yow orientation. 1000 grain weight and test weight of north-south row orientation was higher than those of east-west vow orientation. Correlation coefficient between solar radiation of upper canopy and 1000 grain weight showed r=$0.8132^{*}$, and between air temperature of upper canopy and number of spikes per $\textrm{m}^{2}$ and 1000 grain weight showed significant positive correlation with r=$0.8139^{*}$, and r=$0.8293^{*}$, respectively.

Objectives : 본 연구는 암환자의 위장관 기능장애를 개선시킬수 있는 보다 효과적인 약물개발의 일환으로 곽향 추출물의 장운동에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위해 수행되어졌다. Methods : 생리적인 상태에서 곽향추출물이 장운동에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 장운동촉진제인 carbachol과 곽향추출물을 실험쥐들에게 투여후 15분후 charcoal meal을 먹여서 charcoal meal의 소장내 통과 정도를 비교 측정하였다. 또, loperamide, scopolamine, nicotine으로 장운동을 억제시켜 놓은 실험쥐들에 15분 간격으로 곽향 추출물과 charcoal meal을 먹인 후 역시 charcoal meal의 소장내 통과 정도를 비교 측정하였다. Results : 곽향 추출물은 생리상태에서는 장운동에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 곽향추출물은 loperamide와 scopolamine으로 유발된 장운동 억제상태에 대하여 부분적으로 영향을 끼쳤다. 그러나 nicotine으로 유발된 상태에 대해서는 영항을 끼치지 않았다. Conclusion : 곽향 추출물은 소화관 기능부전 완화에 효과적으로 작용하는 천연물이라 추론할 수 있다.

Objectives: This experimental study was carried out to evaluate the immune modulating and anti-tumor activity of Ampelopsis Radix extracts (ARE). Materials and Methods: To elucidate the effects of ARE on the macrophage and NK cell activity, we analyzed NO production, NK cytotoxicity and gene expressions of cytokine related with macrophage and NK cell activity. Results: ARE activated and promoted macrophages to product NO in part. And, ARE has significant properties to activate macrophages and NK cells by promoting related cytokines like IL-1, IL-12, IFN-$\gamma$, iNOS and TNF-$\alpha$ gene expressions. We also observed that ARE promoted protein expression of IFN-$\gamma$, and TNF-$\alpha$ in mice splenocytes. Conclusions: ARE is an effective herbal drug for immune modulating and anti-cancer by promoting activity of macrophages and NK cells.

Objectives : This study is aimed to elucidate anti-hepatoma activity of Coptis Chinensis Extract (CCE) and evaluate its effect on proliferation of human hepatoma Hep G2 cells. Methods : To identify CCE and control the quality, we performed fingerprinting by high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC). To investigate effects of CCE on anti-hepatoma activity, we measured cytotoxicity against Hep G2 cells compared with treatment of paclitaxel and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). To examine the mechanism of inhibitory effect of CCE on Hep G2 cell proliferation, cell cycle distribution was evaluated using fluorescent activated cell sorter (FACS) Result : CCE showed a significant effect that arrests Hep G2 cells at the G2/M phase of the cell cycle. CCE combined with paclitaxel inhibited synergistically cell growth of Hep G2 cells. Conclusion : CCE may present anticancer effects through inhibition of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell proliferation via G2/M arrest, and may be a useful anticancer agent for HCC.

This case report documents a case in which the administration of an herbal product, an extract of the lacquer tree, Rhus verniciflua Stokes was related with a prolonged survival in a elderly advanced non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) patient. A 79-year-old man who had been diagnosed with advanced NSCLC refused conventional therapy and treatment with the allergen-removed Rhus verniciflua Stokes(aRVS) had continued from September 2007 to July 2010. He had survived for 35 months after the administration of aRVS and maintained good performance status with European Cooperative Oncology Group performance status(ECOG PS) of 1. This case suggests that aRVS be alternative treatment for the elderly advanced NSCLC patients.
