The purpose of this study was to analyze the loss of open space of schools in Ulaanbaatar city and found out main causes of the conversion trend of open space to suggest alternatives. 76 designated sites were selected from 118 public schools within 6 districts of Ulaanbaatar city. These 76 schools were eligible for analysis of the open space change between 2005 and 2015 with Google Earth Pro. The results showed that $175,048m^2$ open space was developed and two dominant types of open space conversion were found; 1) constructions of school facilities such as soccer field, extended school buildings, parking lot, sidewalk, and square, and 2) constructions of apartment buildings and service facilities such as community center, pedestrian, sports facilities, and parking lot. Apartment complex development has commonly happened in all districts and caused bigger open space loss than other types of development. Chingeltei district is located in the center of Ulaanbaatar city, and schools in this district lost the biggest open space, $50,036m^2$/35.24% over 10 years. The rate of open space loss seemed to be related to the distance from the urban center and open space loss was an ongoing event in Ulaanbaatar city. This trend would not be improved without a strong regulation, so, in this study, making strict regulations that prevent conversions of open space were suggested to conserve open space in Ulaanbaatar city.

Solar sail propulsion uses solar radiation pressure to propel spacecraft without propellant, and it is useful for deep-space missions and continuos orbit maneuver missions. After a brief introduction of solar sail dynamics, locally optimal trajectories in Sun-centered and Earth-centered orbits are analyzed. Numerical simulations for the optimal trajectories are performed. Trajectory for the rendezvous with Halley comet is generated, and different planet escape methods are compared.
Radio occultation (RO) technique has been used in planetary science since 1960s. When signal goes through atmosphere, it is refracted due to the gradient of atmospheric refractivity. In 1995, the first low earth orbit (LEO) satellite, MicroLab-1, was launched to conduct RO mission. It receives the signal from global positioning system (GPS) satellites. After MicroLab-1, other RO missions, such as CHAMP, SAC-C, and GRACE, are executed in several years later. In 2006, Taiwan launched six LEO satellites for RO mission. The mission name is Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate (COSMIC). Under some abnormal situations, multipath and strong fluctuation in phase and amplitude of the signal appear in moist troposphere. Therefore, open loop (OL) technique has been applied to replace traditional phase lock loop (PLL) technique. In this paper, we will summarize the retrieval processing procedure and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of OL technique.
This paper presents the design of two antennas for the Dual-channel Radiometers for Earth and Atmosphere Monitoring (DREAM) the main payload, will be launched at NARO space center in Korea in 2007. The antennas are designed to meet stringent requirements of a very high beam efficiency, good pattern symmetry, and low VSWR, at 23.8 GHz and 37 GHz bands. Corrugated horn antennas are used. The simulation results of the electrical performance are presented.

This paper presents a feasibility study of a fresh air load reduction system by using an underground double floor space. The fresh air is introduced into the double slab space and passes through the opening bored into the footing beam. The air is cooled by the heat exchange with the inside surface of the double slab space in summer, and heated in winter. This system not only reduces sensible heat load of the fresh air by heat exchange with earth but also reduces latent heat load of the fresh air by ad/de-sorption of underground double slab concrete. In this paper, we investigated the correlation between outdoor air temperature and outlet air temperature in the system. In conclusion, from the results of the high correlation we proposed a equation of regression for the outlet air temperature in the system by using linear regression analysis.

TRiplet Ionospheric Observatory-CubeSat for Ion, Neutron, Electron & MAgnetic fields (TRIO-CINEMA) is a CubeSat with 3.14 kg in weight and 3-U ($10{\times}10{\times}30$ cm) in size, jointly developed by Kyung Hee University and UC Berkeley to measure magnetic fields of near Earth space and detect plasma particles. When a satellite is launched into orbit, it encounters ultra-high vacuum and extreme temperature. To verify the operation and survivability of the satellite in such an extreme space environment, experimental tests are conducted on the ground using thermal vacuum chamber. This paper describes the temperature control device and monitoring system suitable for CubeSat test environment using the thermal vacuum chamber of the School of Space Research, Kyung Hee University. To build the chamber, we use a general purpose thermal analysis program and NX 6.0 TMG program. We carry out thermal vacuum tests on the two flight models developed by Kyung Hee University based on the thermal model of the TRIO-CINEMA satellite. It is expected from this experiment that proper operation of the satellite in the space environment will be achieved.
The missile technology and its development in south Korea have been restrained to the limit of 180 km by America which instead provided to Korea with security protection. In the same vein, America pressured South Korea to abort its nuclear weapons program so as to prevent another possible military encounter that can easily develop into a war between South and North Korea. This restraint was a bit relaxed when South Korea joined the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) in 2001 whereby the limit was 300 km. The situation of South Korea is in much contrast with its neighbor, North Korea, which has fired Taepo Dong 1 and Taepo Dong 2 to put its alleged satellite respectively into the Earth orbit. The range of this rocket believed to be reaching more than 5,500 km, a range of the intercontinental ballistic missile, without any rein. South Korea that has just geared its full powers for its outer space industry, with the current space projects of putting its satellites into the low Earth orbit, will in future put its satellite into the geostationary orbit, 36,000 km above the Earth. To do so, such restraint had better be resolved. Korean space industry, as it is alike in other countries, started with putting and manufacturing sounding rockets, producing satellites but relying on foreign launching facilities, and learning launching capacities. Experiencing three time launchings of KITSAT, the current satellite projects of Korea are undertaken as follows: - Koreasat - STSAT - Komsat - MBSAT - COMS (Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite) Koreans waked up to the things of outer space in 2008 with the first Korean astronaut Li So-yeon, a lady bio systems engineer. Although the first Korean made rocket in cooperation with a Russian company to fire last August 2009 was a failure, it should be considered as an inevitable process for future endeavors. There are currently three outer space related laws of Korea: Aerospace Industry Development Promotion Act 1987, Outer Space Development Promotions Act 2005, and Space Damage Compensation Act 2008. The first two stemming from the two different ministries are, however, overlapping in many aspects and have some shortcomings to be improved.
Some of the underground structures such as subway tunnels are constructed by open cut method, in which the ground is excavated, a structure installed, and after that the excavated space is backfilled. In this case, because of their narrow and constrained boundary conditions, the earth pressure induced by self-weight of the backfilled soil acting on the underground structures is different from that of the classical theory. The vertical and horizontal earth pressures acting on upper slab and side wall of the underground structures constructed by open cut method are affected by the backfill geometry. The laboratory model tests were performed in the conditions of a variety of the shapes of backfill geometry and wall friction. And their results were compared with those from theories. As a result, it was observed that the distribution of the earth pressure acting on the underground structure is affected by the shapes of backfill geometry, the width of backfill, the angle of excavation and the wall friction.

The X-band frequencies for transmitting the data from earth observation satellites are limited, so a number of satellites share the frequency bands. In order for multiple satellites to utilize same or adjacent frequency bands, International Telecommunication Union - Radiocommunication (ITU-R) limits power flux density (PFD), which overcomes the interferences among multiple satellites. However, even under the regulation, the interference effect needs to be analyzed when multiple satellites are connected to communicate with multiple ground stations (GSs) located close to each other. In this paper, the interference effect is analyzed based on signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) when two low earth orbit (LEO) satellites operating in different orbits are connected to communicate with randomly located two GSs in Korean peninsula. From the analysis results, it is confirmed that there can be interferences during 365 days operation even if the satellites meet PFD requirement, but the periods under interference effects are short and the interference can be foreseen.

In order to analyze the overall characteristics of the lunar orbiter, the Variable Coast method, which can be launched everyday, is applied to the 3.5 phasing loop transfer trajectory. The mission scenario for the entire process from launching to entering the lunar orbit is set up and performed simulation by selecting the launch pad and launch vehicle. In particular, the SEM(Satellite-Earth-Moon) angle defined in Earth-Moon rotating frame is an important constraint to comprehensively evaluate the 3.5 phasing loop transfer trajectory. The simulation using SEM angle is analyzed from various viewpoints such as launch epoch, coast duration, perigee altitude and ${\Delta}V$ not only trans-lunar trajectory but lunar orbit insertions and the optimum SEM angle is suggested in this study. It is expected that this results will be helpful to evaluate the characteristics of the 3.5 phasing loop transfer trajectory according to the launch vehicle selection by comparison with Fixed Coast analysis results in the future.
