  • One common procedure in the approximate solution of a nonclassically damped linear system is to neglect the off-diagonal elements of the normalized damping matrix. A tight error bound, which can be computed with relative ease, is given for this method of solution. The role that modal coupling plays in the control of error is clarified. If the normalized damping matrix is strongly diagonally dominant, it is shown that adequate frequency separation is not necessary to ensure small errors.

  • Recent increase of commercial network Integration to World Wide Web(WWW) shifts an ordinary commerce to electronic environment. This draws more people to examine re-assurance of their secure transaction. This study investigates current status of security methodology for Electronic Payment System and extracts important axis of security level for electronic payment. Using these axis as security evaluation criteria, the research proposes a security matrix which consists of four different level of security granularity, hence allowing evaluation of a nation-wide credit card based payment system. Feasible usage of this matrix contributes to security analysis of the electronic system as whole, hence providing better secured electronic environment.

  • This study analyzes the process of informatization in the public sector for information system development using Peter Keen's Process Capability Matrix. For this, Informatization Support Project, a model case of informatization process in the public sector, is analyzed by the approach from a traditional point of view to the viewpoint of e-business By doing this, the direction of BPR for informatization in the public sector will be presented. Moreover, implications for the direction of the outsourcing will be provided.

  • We present an algorithm to find an approximation for the stationary distribution for the general ergodic spatially-inhomogeneous block-partitioned upper Hessenberg form. Our approximation makes use of an associated upper block-Hessenberg matrix which is spa-tially homogeneous except for a finite number of blocks. We treat the MAP/G/1 retrial queue and the retrial queue with two types of customer as specific instances and give some numerical examples. The numerical results suggest that our method is superior to the ordinary finite-truncation method.

  • Let G be a finite simple connected graph with vertex set V(G) and edge set E(G). Let A(G) be the adjacency matrix of G. The characteristic polynomial of G is the characteristic polynomial $\Phi(G;\lambda) = det(\lambda I - A(G))$ of A(G). A zero of $\Phi(G;\lambda)$ is called an eigenvalue of G.

  • The h-plot is a graphical technique for displaying the structure of one population's variance-covariance matrix. This follows the mathematical algorithem of the principle component biplot based on the singular value decomposition. But it is known that the singular value decomposition is not resistant, i.e., it is very sensitive to small changes in the input data. In this article, since the mathematical algorithm of the h-plot is equivalent to that of principal component biplot of Choi and Huh (1994), we derive the resistant h-plot.

  • Necessary and sufficient conditions for a radical class of rings to satisfy the polynomial equation $\rho$(R[x]) = ($\rho$(R))[x] have been investigated. The interrelationsh of polynomial equation, Amitsur property and polynomial extensibility is given. It has been shown that complete analogy of R.E. Propes result for radicals of matrix rings is not possible for polynomial rings.

  • The distortion effects of microphones have been analyzed and compensated at mel-frequency feature domain. Unlike popular bias removal algorithms a linear transformation of mel-frequency spectrum is incorporated. Although a diagonal matrix transformation is sufficient for medium-quality microphones, a full-matrix transform is required for low-quality microphones with severe nonlinearity. Proposed compensation algorithms are tested with HTIMIT database, which resulted in about 5 percents improvements in recognition rate over conventional CMS algorithm.

  • This paper investigates the relevance system R-mingle (RM) as a a fuzzy-relevance logic. It shows that RM is fuzzy in Cintula's sense, i.e., RM is complete with respect to linearly ordered L-matrices (or L-algebras). More exactly, we first introduce RM and its weak versions wwRM and wRM. We next provide algebraic and matrix completeness results for them.
