(R) (+) and (S) (-) $4-^2H$-phenytoin have been used as substrates for the determination of the percentage of deuterium retention (NIH shift) after para-hydroxylation of the substrates in rat. By using GC-MS analyses, the percentages of deuterium retention were found to be 69% and 70% for the (R) and (S) phenyl rings, respectively. The results add additional evidence for the involvement of arene oxide in the oxidation of the pro (R) and pro (S) phenyls of phenytoin. The oxidation process of each ring could be mediated by independent enzyme systems, a rapid oxidative enzyme for the pro (S) phenyl and a slow oxidative enzyme for the pro (R) phenyl.

Methylcatechol 2, 3-dioxygenase encoded in pWWO megaplasmid of Pseudomonas putida mt-2 has been cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli. This enzyme gene has been localized inside 2. 3-kb XhoI fragment derived from the pWWO megaplasmid. Analysis of enzyme activity and SDS-PAGE showed that the cloned methylcatechol 2, 3-dioxygenase gene in E. coli was about 100 fold overexpressed compared with the parental gene in P. putida mt-2 (pWWO). The cloned enzyme exhibited higher ring-fission activity to catechol than catechol derivatives including 3-methylcatechol, 4-methylcatechol, and 4-chlorocatechol.

Communication network in KTX (Korea Train eXpress), the express train system, has to transmit status variables periodically within tens of seconds and real-time control informations which has short reply like status transition or alarm. KTX uses $Tornad^*$ (TOken Ring Network Alsthom Device) network for this purpose. This network can send and receive messages which enable express train applications embedded in intelligence boards to communicate by itself. Layer 1, 2 of $Tornad^*$ is implemented with differential manchester encoding and IEEE 802.4 standard(token bus standard) respectively. To implement layer 1 and 2, we implemented twisted pair modem using FPGA for layer 1 and used MC68824 from Motorola for layer 2. MC68824 bus arbitration and memory controller is implemented using CPLD.

It is observed that the mode spacing of an cxternal cavity semiconducror laser can be altered dramatically by the insertion of an intracavity etalon. 111e mode spacing is decreased as a function of etalon's reflectivity and this effect is quantitatively explained by an analysis of resonant modes. We abo show that this effect provides a precise and convenient alternative for determining the coating reflectivity of a high reflectivity etalon. talon.

We present a mathematical model of left heart governed by the partial differential equations. This heart is coupled with a lumped model of the whole circulatory system governed by the ordinary differential equations. The immersed boundary method is used to investigate the intracardiac blood flow and the cardiac valve motions of the normal circulation in humans. We investigate the intraventricular velocity field and the velocity curves over the mitral ring and across outflow tract. The pressure and flow are also measured in the left and right heart and the systemic and pulmonary arteries. The simulation results are comparable to the existing measurements.

There are two well known reduction formulae for structural constants of the cohomology ring of Grassmannians, i.e., Littlewood-Richardson coefficients. Two reduction formulae are a conjugate pair in the sense that indexing partitions of one formula are conjugate to those of the other formula. A nice bijective proof of the first reduction formula is given in the authors' previous paper while a (combinatorial) proof for the second reduction formula in the paper depends on the identity between Littlewood-Richardson coefficients of conjugate shape. In this article, a direct bijective proof for the second reduction formula for Littlewood-Richardson coefficients is given. Our proof is independent of any previously known results (or bijections) on tableaux theory and supplements the arguments on bijective proofs of reduction formulae in the authors' previous paper.

In this note, we mainly discuss the Gorenstein $Pr{\ddot{u}}fer$ domains. It is shown that a domain is a Gorenstein $Pr{\ddot{u}}fer$ domain if and only if every finitely generated ideal is Gorenstein projective. It is also shown that a domain is a PID (resp., Dedekind domain, $B{\acute{e}}zout$ domain) if and only if it is a Gorenstein $Pr{\ddot{u}}fer$ UFD (resp., Krull domain, GCD domain).

Hydrotherapy is aimed at evoking short-term and long-term adaptation-mechanisms of patients. This means that a patient should be able to adapt to the changed environment. both mentally and physically. Hydrotherapy is widely used to treat patients with generalised rheumatic discases. Hydrotherapy may be applied as a single therapy. in combination with other therapeutic interventions or as one pan of a complex series of stimuli as e.g. during spa therapy. A treatment regimen in water is constructed according to the same rules as dry land exercise. However, methods specifically designed or adjusted for hydrotherapy can be used. The Halliwick is suitale in particular to facilitate arthrokinetic reactions as a part of training postural stability. The Bad Ragaz Ring is a hydortherapy modification of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation. Patterns of arms. logs and trunk are used to increase muscle function and flexibility. Other techniques are applicable in water too: mobilization and manipulation techniques of the joints can be integrated in hydrotherapeutic methods. The continuous research is needed for many interesting issues of hydrotherapy in new future.

This paper presents the network of Distributed Control System(DCS) considering specification of nuclear power plant. The network is composed of field network, control network and information network. The protocol of control network is ring type and it is compared to ethernet type. This paper proposes the structure of DCS, the protocol of each network and analyzes the network traffic along data capacity of field network, control network, information network and the network performance. Network II.5 is used as traffic simulation tool.

Thirty-eight 5-arylidene-2(5H)-furanone derivatives possessing halo-, methoxy-, oxo-, dioxo-, and thiophenyl groups as well as anthraquinone and naphthquinone moieties were synthesized, and their cytotoxicity was evaluated against various cancer cell lines. The introduction of halogen atoms or nitro group at aromatic ring of 5-arylidene-2(5H)-furanone was shown to increase the cytotoxicity with 5-(3-nitrobenzylidene )-2(5H)-furanone (21) being the most potent. Among anthracenyl or naphthalenyl derivatives, (E)-5-[2-(1 ,4-dimethoxy-9, 10-dioxo) anthracenyl]-2(5H)-furanone (34) showed the most potent cytotoxic activity.
