This study evaluates the energy performance of super high-rise residential buildings with e-QUEST simulation and calculates the annual cooling and heating load. The result of this study have concluded that the most influential factor is the characteristics of the window and also suggest the most efficient window system from the result of calculation of different glasses' cooling and heating load. The result of this study shows that The most efficient method to enhance the energy performance is to use low reflective 3 pairs Low-E glass and Low-E coating(inside of outer glass) pair glass.
Up until recently, the energy and the economic analysis of a cogeneration system have been implemented by a manual calculation that is based on monthly thermal loads of buildings. In this study, a cogeneration system modeling validation with a detail building energy simulation, eQUEST, for a building energy and cost prediction has been implemented. By analyzing the hourly building electricity and thermal loads, it enables users to decide proper cogeneration system capacity and to estimate more accurate building energy consumption. eQUEST also verified the energy analysis when the heat pump system is integrated with the cogeneration system. The mechanical system configuration benefits from the high efficiency heat pump system while avoiding the building electricity demand increase. Economic analysis such as LCC (Life Cycle Cost) method is carried out to verify economical benefits of the system by applying actual utility rates of KEPCO(Korea Electricity Power COmpany) and KOGAS(KOrea GAS company).
Purpose: Recently energy consumption is rapidly increasing due to continuous development of social evolution in various field. In this situation, there is a lot of effort to reduce this energy consumption in many ways, especially in building energy. Preceding studies already started to analyze the housing area such as zero energy house and passive house by researching annual building energy consumption, but to apply the results of housing to office building is insufficient since it has different consumption tendency. Method: In this study, eQuest program was used for simulation and the base model is selected among standard office building in ASHRAE 90.1. Variables are divided into passive and active factors for comparison. Result: In passive factors, glazing system showed the highest energy saving rate by 21.3% with triple low-e glass and enhancing wall u-value showed the lowest energy saving rate by 3.6% with 0.15 m2/K. In active factors, VAV system showed 30.9% energy saving rate when compared to CAV system, and heat exchanger showed 10.2% energy saving rate. For regeneration energy part, photovoltaic panel generated 10.4% of base annual energy usage.
In these days, importance of HVAC system in office building is steadily growing in terms of thermal comfort and energy savings. As a energy efficient heating and cooling system, system air-conditioner which can be controlled distinctly and has a high COP is more widely adopted nowadays. However, the features and advantages of system air-conditioner were not reported well because system air-conditioner did not describe yet by conventional simulation methods such as TRNSYS, e-Quest, Energyplus, etc. In this study, by using the TRNSYS program which is able to show module implementation and building energy consumption analysis, system air-conditioner module will be proposed and validated through comparison between the simulation results and measurement results.
U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient(SHGC) usually can be used as the index to evaluate the thermal performance. U-factor is a concept for heat loss by the temperature difference between inside and outside, so it's useful to be applied in heating season. But SHGC that indicates the fraction of heat from incident solar radiation that flows through a window by means of optical transmission, as well as absorption, re-radiation and convection is for cooling season. In other words, U-factor and SHGC of windows by cities have to be reflected to select the window of the energy conservation. The purpose of this research is to analyze the energy use impacts by SHGCs of windows for detached house in Inchon and Ulsan through energy simulation by eQUEST.
Recently, alternative energy resources have emerged considerably due to the high oil prices and environment problems. Deep sea water that is one of the natural energy sources can be one of the attractive solutions to reduce the environment problems, and there are already a few examples in some developed countries. In this study, cooling system of deep sea water using heat exchangers of two hotels, located in near Haeundae Bay in Busan, have been analyzed on the quantity of electricity and gas use comparison between existing cooling system and deep seawater cooling system by using E-Quest simulation program. The results of the study showed that the Hotel A approximately saves 370 millions won per year, and the Hotel B saves 248 millions won per year. It means that the cooling system by using deep sea water has great worth to reduce the ratio of fuel sources.
Low solar gain glazing should be applied on windows in order to reduce the solar radiation load. In a country where a cooling and a heating load coexist throughout the year, such as in Korea, a high solar gain glazing is need to reduce the heating load, but a low solar gain glazing should be applied to reduce the cooling load. Recently, dynamic windows have been developed for which the solar shading performance switches according to the amount of solar radiation flowing into the indoor space through the glazing, and these have been used in building to solve such problems. The purpose of this research is to analyze the energy performance of the electrochromic glazing for dynamic windows that has been extensively commercialized for office buildings in Incheon and Ulsan through an energy simulation implemented in the eQUEST program.
Impact by estimation error of hourly horizontal global solar radiation in a weather file on building energy performance was investigated in this study. There are a number of weather parameters in a given weather file, such as dry-bulb, wet-bulb, dew-point temperatures; wind speed and direction; station pressure; and solar radiation. Most of them except for solar radiation can be easily obtained from weather stations located on the sites worldwide. However, most weather stations, also including the ones in South Korea, do not measure solar radiation because the measuring equipment for solar radiation is expensive and difficult to maintain. For this reason, many researchers have studied solar radiation estimation models and suggested to apply them to predict solar radiation for different weather stations in South Korea, where the solar radiation is not measured. However, only a few studies have been conducted to identify the impact caused by estimation errors of various solar radiation models on building energy performance analysis. Therefore, four different weather files using different horizontal global solar radiation data, one using measured global solar radiation, and the other three using estimated global solar radiation models, which are Cloud-cover Radiation Model (CRM), Zhang and Huang Model (ZHM), and Meteorological Radiation Model (MRM) were packed into TRY formatted weather files in this study. These were then used for office building energy simulations to compare their energy consumptions, and the results showed that there were differences in the energy consumptions due to these four different solar radiation data. Additionally, it was found that using hourly solar radiation from the estimation models, which had a similar hourly tendency with the hourly measured solar radiation, was the most important key for precise building energy simulation analysis rather than using the solar models that had the best of the monthly or yearly statistical indices.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify and evaluate interprofessional education (IPE) interventions for healthcare professional students in East Asian countries. Methods: The reporting of this study followed the Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines. A literature search was conducted using seven electronic databases: PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global. Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklists were also used to appraise the quality of the included studies. The outcomes of IPE interventions were classified based on a modified Kirkpatrick model. Results: This review included 30 studies predominantly conducted in Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. The prevalent research design was a one-group pre-posttest design, and most IPE interventions occurred as single events. Approximately 70% of the studies involved students from two healthcare professions, mainly nursing and medicine. Simulations, group discussions, and lectures have emerged as the most common teaching methodologies, with almost half of the studies leveraging a combination of these techniques. The IPE content primarily focused on interprofessional teamwork, communication, and clinical patient care situations; these included the management of septic shock. The effectiveness of the IPE interventions was mainly evaluated through self-reported measures, indicating improvements in attitudes, perceptions, knowledge, and skills, aligning with Level 2 of the modified Kirkpatrick model. Nonetheless, the reviewed studies did not assess changes in the participants' behavior and patient results. Conclusion: IPE interventions promise to enhance interprofessional collaboration and communication skills among health professional students. Future studies should implement rigorous designs to assess the effectiveness of IPE interventions. Moreover, when designing IPE interventions, researchers and educators should consider the role of cultural characteristics in East Asian countries.
