  • This paper predicts the changes of natural frequencies due to the changes of mass at different point mass stations by using iterative calculation Transfer Matrices Method for different boundary conditions of a single beam structure (fixed-free and fixed-fixed beam). Firstly, the first three natural frequencies of an original beam are obtained using Transfer Matrices Method to verify the accuracy of the obtained results. The results are then compared with the exact solutions before purposely changing the parameter of mass. Both beams are modeled as discrete continuous systems with six-lumped-mass system. A single beam is broken down into a point mass and a massless beam which represent a single station and expressed in matrix form. The assembled matrices are used to determine the value of natural frequencies using numerical interpolation method corresponding to their mode number by manipulating some elements in the assembled matrix.

Spectral Fatigue Analysis for Topside Structure of Offshore Floating Vessel

  • In this study, a spectral fatigue analysis was performed for the topside structure of an offshore floating vessel. The topside structure was idealized using beam elements in the SACS program. The fatigue analysis was carried out considering the wave and wind loads separately. For the wave-induced fatigue damage calculation, motion RAOs calculated from a direct wave load analysis and regular waves with different periods and unit wave heights were utilized. Then, the member end force transfer functions were generated covering all the loading conditions. Stress response transfer functions at each joint were produced using the specified SCFs and member end force transfer functions. fatigue damages were calculated using the obtained stress ranges, S-N curve, wave spectrum, heading probability of each loading condition, and their corresponding occurrences in the wave scatter diagrams. For the wind induced fatigue damage calculation, a dynamic wind spectral fatigue analysis was performed. First, a dynamic natural frequency analysis was performed to generate the structural dynamic characteristics, including the eigenvalues (natural frequencies), eigenvectors (mode shapes), and mass matrix. To adequately represent the dynamic characteristic of the structure, the number of modes was appropriately determined in the lateral direction. Second, a wind spectral fatigue analysis was performed using the mode shapes and mass data obtained from the previous results. In this analysis, the Weibull distribution of the wind speed occurrence, occurrence probability in each direction, damping coefficient, S-N curves, and SCF of each joint were defined and used. In particular, the wind fatigue damages were calculated under the assumption that the stress ranges followed a Rayleigh distribution. The total fatigue damages were calculated from the combination with wind and wave fatigue damages according to the DNV rule.

  • dynamic analysis of power systems is required the information for building a transfer function of has the heavy calculation of high order matrices. Since generally the order of the state matrix is over the limit of commercial analysis programs such as MASS(Multi-Area Small Signal Stability) Program, it is necessary to develop dynamic equivalent systems with preserving essential properties of the original system. In this work, a procedurd to find an optimal location of FACTS controllers is presented. The procedure was applied to KEPCO system in the year of 2000. The results on a test system demonstrate the accuracy of dynamic equivalencing and verify the effect of FACTS controllers.

  • In this paper, the vibration characteristics of IHTS(Intermediate Heat Transfer System) piping system of LMR(Liquid Metal Reactor) conveying hot liquid sodium are investigated to eliminate the pipe supports for economic reasons. To do this, a 3-dimensional straight pipe element and a curved pipe element conveying fluid are formulated using the dynamic stiffness method of the wave approach and coded to be applied to any complex piping system. Using this method, the dynamic characteristics including the natural frequency, the frequency response functions, and the dynamic instability due to the pipe internal flow velocity are analyzed. As one of the design parameters, the vibration energy flow is also analyzed to investigate the disturbance transmission paths for the resonant excitation and the non-resonant excitations.

  • This paper describes the formulation for the vibration analysis of cylindrical shells with stiffeners by the transfer influence coefficient method. This method was developed on the base of the concept of the successive transmission of dynamic influence coefficients. The simple computational results from a personal computer demonstrate the validity of the present method, that is, the numerical high accuracy and the flexibility of programming, are compared with results of the transfer matrix method. It is also confirmed that the present algorithm could provide the solutions of high accuracy for system with a number of intermediate rigid supports. And all boundary conditions and the intermediate stiff supports such as intermediate rigid supports between shell and foundation can be treated only by adequately controlling the values of the spring constants.

  • 본 연구는 사장교의 차량하중에 의한 동적거동을 파악하고자 수치해석상 비교적 간단한 일본의 풍리(豊里)(Toyosato)대교(大橋)의 자료를 근거로하여 수치해석 대상모델을 구조형식별로, 여러가지 설계변수-즉, (1) 경간비, (2) 중앙경간장과 주탑높이와의 비, (3) 거어더의 강성, (4) 주탑의 강성, (5) 케이블의 강성-을 변화시켜 수치해석을 수행하여 동적거동을 파악하고, 그 결과를 가지고 설계변수의 영향 및 충격계수의 변화에 대하여 비교 분석하였다. 이때 변위 및 단면력의 영향선을 구하기 위한 해석은 전달행렬법을 이용하였으며, 동적해석에 있어서는 평면구조계의 집중질량계로 모델을 가정하여 차량과 교량의 운동방정식을 유도한 후 모드중첩법을 사용하여 각 질점에 대한 변위 및 단면력의 동적시간이력을 구하였다.

유연 구조물의 운동중 발생하는 진동의 해석 (Vibration Analysis of a Flexible Structure in a Motion)

  • An analysis method is suggested and experimentally studied in order to solve a vibration problem of a flexible structure while it is moving. In this method, substructure synthesis method, modal analysis method and Newmark's integral method were used. Total deformation of a structure was composed of quasistatic component and dynamic component. Rigid body modes were considered in calculation of dynamic component. Combining those two component, deformation behavior and a real structural model of a transfer feeder showed good agreements with computational results.

  • The spindle motor in a computer hard disk drive can be modeled as a rotor-bearing system supported by the base plate. Ball bearing is the crucial element to determine the stiffness of the spindle motor, and its design parameters and operating conditions determine the dynamic characteristics of the spindle motor. In the analysis of a rotor-bearing system with a short shaft like a spindle motor, the stiffness of the base plate as well as ball bearings must be considered accurately to analyze the dynamic charateristics of a spindle motor. In this paper, the lateral and the axial vibration of the spindle motor were analyzed by the transfer matrix method for the dual-shaft rotor-bearing model and by d.o.f lumped parameter model, respectively. The simulation results had good agreements with the experimental modal testing. The dynamic characteristics were fully investigated for the change of the major design parameters of the spindle motor, i.e. the preload of ball bearings and the rotational speed.

  • This paper present an optimum design for the rotor-bearing system of a high-speed (80000RPM) ultra-centrifuge supported by ball bearings with nonlinear stiffness characteristics. To obtain the nonlinear bearing stiffnesses, a ball bearing is modelled in five degrees of freedom and is analyzed quasi-statically. The dynamic behaviors of the nonlinear rotor-bearing system are analyed by using a transfer-matrix method iteratively. For optimum design, minimizing the weight of a rotor is used as a cost function and the Augmented Lagrange Multiplier (ALM) method is employed. The result shows that the rotor-bearing system is optimized to obtain 8% weight reduction.

Vibro-acoustic modelling of immersed cylindrical shells with variable thickness

  • Based on the Precise Transfer Matrix Method (PTMM), the dynamic model is constructed to observe the vibration behaviour of cylindrical shells with variable thickness by solving a set of first-order differential equations. The free vibration of stiffened cylindrical shells with variable thickness can be obtained to compare with the exact solution and FEM results. The reliability of the present method of free vibration is well proved. Furthermore, the effect of thickness on the vibration responses of the cylindrical shell is also discussed. The acoustic response of immersed cylindrical shells is analyzed by a Pluralized Wave Superposition Method (PWSM). The sound pressure coefficient can be gained by collocating points along the meridian line to satisfy the Neumann boundary condition. The mode convergence analysis of the cylindrical shell is carried out to guarantee calculation precision. Also, the reliability of the present method on sound radiation is verified by comparing with experimental results and numerical results.
