  • This paper considers a scheduling problem for a hybrid flowshop with dynamic order arrival. A hybrid flowshop is an extended form of a flowshop, which has serial stages like a flowshop but there can be more than one machine at each stage. In this paper, we propose a new method for the problem of scheduling with the objective of minimizing mean tardiness of orders which arrive at the shop dynamically. The proposed method is based on the list scheduling approach, however we use a more sophisticated method to prioritize lots unlike dispatching rule-based methods. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, a simulation model of a hybrid flowshop-type production system is constructed. We implement well-known dispatching rules and the proposed methods in the simulation model. From a series of simulation tests, we show that the proposed methods perform better than other methods.

  • In this study, the effect of $\alpha$-phase morphology on the dynamic deformation behavior at ultra high strain rate was investigated by EBW(Explosive Bridge Wire) test. All of tests and analyses were conducted on three typical microstructures of Ti-6Al-4V alloy, i.e. equiaxed, widmanstatten and bimodal microstructures. The spall strength and HEL(Hugoniot Elastic Limit) of the specimens that have the thickness of 2mm and 4mm were highest with the bimodal microstructure. These results were similar with previous study which was performed by dynamic torsion test(Kolsky torsion test).

  • PURPOSES : In This study two different concrete barrier systems have been proposed to be established at the small vehicle driveway. One is for median barrier, and the other is for roadside barrier. METHODS : In order to determine the suitable shape of barrier, the impact parameters including vehicle weight, impact angle, impact velocity and impact level have been analyzed. The real crash test has been carried out with 0.9 ton and 2.5 ton vehicles, respectively by using the 2m segment type concrete barriers connected by steel plates that are totally 40m barrier systems. RESULTS : The numerical results obtained by LS/DYNA-3D software are compared with real crash tests from the viewpoints of vehicle stability, vehicle trajectory, occupant risk, etc. CONCLUSIONS : From the above results, the dynamic performance of proposed barrier systems satisfies the specification of Korean Code for roadside safety structures.

  • This paper describes a vehicle driving-load estimation method for application to vehicle Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC). Vehicle driving-load consists of aerodynamic force, rolling resistance, and gravitational force due to road slope and is unknown disturbance in a vehicle dynamic model. The vehicle driving-load has been estimated from engine and wheel speed measurements using a vehicle dynamic model a least square method. The estimated driving-load has been used in the adaptation of throttle/brake control law. The performance of the control law has been investigated via both simulation and vehicle tests. The simulation and test results show that the proposed control law can provide satisfactory vehicle-to-vehicle distance control performance for various driving situations.

  • The spacer grid assembly is one of the main structural components of the nuclear fuel assembly of a PWR. The spacer grid assembly supports and aligns the fuel rods, guides the fuel assemblies past each other during handling and, if needed, sustains lateral seismic loads. The ability of the spacer grid assembly to resist the lateral loads is usually characterized in terms of its dynamic and static crush strengths, which are acquired from tests. In this study, a finite element analysis on the dynamic crush strength of spacer grid assembly specimens is carried out and compared with test results.

  • This paper presents investigation of damping characteristics of squeeze mode type MR (magneto-Rheological) mount experimentally. Since damping property of the MR fluid is changed by variation of the applied magnetic field strength, squeeze mode type MR mount proposed in the study has variable damping characteristics according to the applied magnetic field strength. Impact and excitation tests were performed to investigate the dynamic properties of squeeze mode type MR mount. Responses of the mount were compared in proportion to the applied magnetic field strength. The experimental results show that the mount can effectively reduce vibration amplitude in a wide frequency range by changing the applied magnetic field strength.

  • UTM-01 is the first fall sized maglev test vehicle which is being developed by KIMM and Hyundai Precision and Industrial Co., since 1995. The vehicle employs normal conducting magnets for levitation and single sided linear induction motor for propulsion. The test vehicle has been under tests to assure its required performance since last May 1997. This paper reports various system level test results compared with simple 2 degree of freedom dynamic calculations. Test results include performance of the levitation and guidance system, propulsions system, and the dynamic behavior of the elevated guideway under the passage of the maglev vehicle.

  • A new dynamic scheduling algorithm is proposed for CAN-based real-time system in this paper. The proposed algorithm is extended from an existing EDS(Earliest Deadline Scheduling) approach having a solution to the priority inversion. Using the proposed algorithm, the available bandwidth of network media can be checked dynamically, and consequently arbitration delay causing the miss of deadline can be avoided. Also, non-real time messages can be processed with their bandwidth allocation. Full network utilization and real-time transmission feasibility can be achieved through the algorithm. To evaluate the performance of algorithm, two simulation tests are performed. The first one is transmission data measurement per minute for periodic messages and the second one is feasibility in the system with both periodic messages and non-real time message.

  • High temperature deformation behavior of AZ31 Mg alloy was investigated in this study on the basis of a processing map $(\varepsilon\approx0.6)$. To construct a processing map, compression tests were carried out at wide range of temperatures and strain rates $(T=250\~500^{\circ}C,\;\varepsilon=10^{-4}\~100/s)$. Two regions of high deformation efficiency $(\eta)$ were identified as: (1) a dynamic recrystalization (DRX) domain at $250^{\circ}C$ and 1/s and (2) a superplasticity domain at $450^{\circ}C$ and $10^{-4}/s$. Possible deformation mechanisms operating at high temperature were discussed in relation to the activation energy. A two-stage deformation method was found to be effective in enhancing the superplasticity of AZ31 Mg alloy. From the two-stage deformation method, tensile elongation of $1200\%$ was obtained at the superplastic domain.

  • Static and dynamic experiments were done to study on the restitution behaviors of strings. The elastic and viscoelastic model were compared. To apply a linear viscoelastic model (Kelvin model) to longitudinal behaviors of strings, static and dynamic tensile tests were done. Using their results, it should be intended to acquire damped stress (Stress related to velocity), and to calculate the viscoelastic coefficient. Fixing both ends, string was pushed by the loadcell attached to the tensile tester. The experimental results were in accordance with the calculated results using the Kelvin model acquired from the results of longitudinal tensile test. But the results of falling mass experiments, the behaviors of strings were near to elastic model. The clamping condition of strings in both sides has an effected on the value of COR. The smaller contact area, the grower the value of COR.
